Kingston-upon-Thames house boat description
If you would like to live in a beautiful location on the water, away from the maddening crowd, with the river as your back yard this would be a place to consider. Seeing the boats pass by and having the tranquility of this most sort after area in such a close suburb of London is indeed a privilege not many people get to experience.
When I lived at the two-story houseboat 'Wren' it was featured in the Guardian for an article on “Lifestyles” and I had three documentaries filmed at the boat in the 90’s on my home and profession. The boat is ideal for a businessperson/couple or someone that is making a change in their life.
The lower story, which has just come up for rental, has high ceilings and is just like a comfortable spacious apartment. There is little movement and it is easy to forget you are living on the water.
The main bedroom has a Queen sized bed and plenty of closet space. In fact there is a huge storage area in the hull; extra storage in a city is a luxury.
The small second bedroom/cabin has a single bed and is perfect for friends having a sleep over or extra storage.
The good sized bathroom has a large 6ft deep bath/shower and is wonderful to relax in after a day at work or visiting the 300 acres at Kew Gardens just over Kew Bridge a couple of hundred yards away. The bathroom has a large 100 year-old mirror that covers one wall with swans etched on the glass.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a (natural) gas stove and oven and throughout the apartment it has hardwood flooring. It is centrally heater with gas and the gas, electric and water are included in the price.
The kitchen leads to a large lounge and dinning area. You also have the deck to dine or sunbath.
The path leading to the boat is fully lit at night and is beautifully covered with trees and greenery in the summer. It is a very romantic way to live.

Why the Owner Chose Kingston-upon-Thames:
I found this wonderful location when I was living in central London and wanted somewhere near but with more of a country feel. I loved the birds and the leafy green of Chiswick. Kew Bridge where the boat is moored is between two of the most sort after suburbs of London Richmond and Chiswick and perfect for writing my books.
The Unique Benefits at this House Boat:
The most unique experience is that you are in London but have the extensive natural space of the river and Kew Gardens. It is like having acreage of green as your back yard. I felt it was the best way to spend a summer in the sun by the water and also have the most beautiful winters when the boat is so warm and cozy.
