This is the perfect, "Get away from it all" house! It is located just outside of downtown Custer, on a huge parcel of rolling hills. The house is only a ten minute drive from Custer, so it is close enough to civilization, should you want a restaurant, store, or souvenir. Drive times to Custer State Park, Mt Rushmore, and even Devils Tower, Wyoming are reasonable, scenic, and easy. The house itself if spotlessly clean, fully stocked with anything you can think of, and spacious. Be warned, there is no Internet or TV channels available, but there are plenty of DVDs and CDs available to view on TVs in the Living Room and Master Bedroom. I thought I would die with no cell service, TV, or Internet, but the peace, solitude, and surroundings more than made up for the "Distractions" that we all have become dependent upon. I am not a big movie watcher, but there are movies available for absolutely everybody in your family! Regarding the house, as I said, it is immaculate. The decor and decorations are tasteful, exquisite, and well done. Not only is the interior decorated in a western and local theme, but the exterior is decorated and well maintained. Honestly, you can easily spend thirty minutes, just walking around the house and taking in the decorations. Again, everything is tasteful and well placed, and it creates a wonderful ambiance. The beds and linens were comfortable, and the master bedroom had a Sleep by Numbers mattress. The kitchen had everything you could want, and the bathroom was clean, comfortable, and fully stocked. However, the focal point of this home is the incredible property and beautiful landscape. I highly recommend this house!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.

The Sleep Number Bed was the best! Otherwise, this was a nice place to stay if you like to be off the beaten path. Mainly just slept there. No Central A/C, but cooled off OK at night. Bedrooms were plenty big, as was the kitchen and family room. Very good price for being there during Sturgis!!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with teenagers.

The property was clean and well-maintained. The listing photos accurately reflect the rental's appearance and amenities; however, in the kitchen, cooking pans need to be replaced, as the non-stick coating are peeling off, and the grater, which are rusty. Also, the washer and dryer were full of unfinished laundry and since I needed to use them, I had to finish the load left by the owner. Directions to the ranch should be provided on the listing or at least a recommendation to call the owner one day before arrival because there's no phone service in the area. (Internet connection are almost nil even in hotels but we found one at the visitors' center.) Or plan to arrive during the day. This was a hard lesson learned in using a GPS to guide us to the farmhouse. Thank God to a good-hearted lady in one of the hotels in the town who went out of her way to locate the address and phone the owner for us, we found the address of the farmhouse at about 11 pm! The main purpose of our visit to South Dakota was to see Mount Rushmore but we managed to spend time at the Crazy Horse Memorial all in one day. Even though the farmhouse is large enough for 6 people and tents can be set up in the huge yard, there is only one bathroom for the entire property. I certainly would recommend this property to anyone who loves the outdoors, animals and adventures if they can deal with just one bathroom.Recommended for: Pet owners, adventure seekers, families with young children.
Owner response: This guest was traveling across the country and did her inquiries along the way. The address, directions & phone number was listed on her confirmation email. We try to let all out guests know that when travelling through the area their gps, email and cell phones may not work. As for the laundry our sincere apologies it was an oversight I am sure, as the owner does work many hours. Our listing does clearly state we our a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom vacation home. All efforts are made to make our guests feel at home.

My wife and I, with our 4 kids (baby to 8 y.o.) had a wonderful stay last week. The ranch house is about 8 miles west of Custer on a nice secluded dirt road. This was exactly what our family was looking for. The house had plenty of room for our family of 6. The kitchen had everything we needed when we wanted to eat at the house. The bathroom has a washer and dryer and we were able to do a load of laundry while we were there too. The house itself was very clean and maintained. The house sits on a huge property and is very private. You can see one house from the front porch, but it is far away so you are nice and secluded. Renee and Michelle were both extremely accommodating and helpful. we were having such a wonderful trip that we called and asked if the house was available for an additional day at the end of our trip and it was. Although the property is out in the country, you are close enough to Custer that you can easily get groceries or food on your way to the house. Our family very strongly recommends this property. One head's up....your cell phones might not work at the ranch house. For us that was fine and I enjoyed the several days without service, but just be aware. Their is a phone in the house though if you needed a working phone line.Recommended for: Pet owners, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.
