Bucerias house description
Casa Escondida is a true Mexican Casita! Built approximately 40 years ago, this 1,000sqf/93sqm, newly remodeled home is located on Lazaro Cardenas, the most prominent, beach-side residential and commercial zone in Bucerias. Expand your outdoor comfort into private gardens surrounding an additional 800 sf/74 sqm's of covered patio for relaxation and dining. Casa Escondida is built on one level, has no interior or exterior steps. All bedding, appliances, dishware, cookware, and furnishings are in excellent condition. Enjoy two days per week of cleaning services. As with most casitas, Casa Escondida was designed to accommodate as much indoor as outdoor living. It is set back off the road in lawn and garden space for privacy and protection. Casa Escondida means 'The Hidden House'. It lives up to its name.
Swim in a large pool under the coconut trees overlooking the beach, or take a few more steps through a private beach gate to enjoy body surfing in the waves along miles of pristine sand.
Step onto the main street of Lazaro Cardenas and enjoy the tastes and sights of Mexico with unlimited numbers of restaurants, spas, shopping, sightseeing and excursion opportunities.
Casa Escondida is managed and operated by Leo and Cathy Zanoni. We live right next door to assist you with any needs. We have lived in Bucerias for over eight years and can help direct you to where and what you need. If anything needs repair or replacement, you need only go to the house next door for assistance.
Bucerias is a popular destination town along the growing and expanding Mexican Riviera Nayarit. Located just 15 to 20 minutes by car north of the Puerto Vallarta airport, you can find all your needs from food, groceries, and personal items to entertainment within walking distance of Casa Escondida. Bucerias was named for the divers that harvest oysters off the sandy shores. They can still be seen today collecting the delicacies with snorkel equipment and nets.
Bucerias and the the State of Nayarit are known world wide for the art and images of the Huichol Indians. You will find them gathered most days around the Zócalo, the central town plaza in El Centro, selling their ware. Embroidery, wood carvings, weaving, and natural dyed clothing is displayed by the local people from Chiapas, Oaxaca, and other regions of Mexico.
Bus and taxi cab services are continually available making getting around affordable and easy. Use the transportation systems for a short, 5 minute trip to Mega, a large, modern grocery and department store. Go a little further to Walmart, or 20 minutes more to explore the amazing sites and opportunities in Puerto Vallarta.
The big city of Puerto Vallarta tumbles down the mountain side to rest on the shore of the Bay of Banderas. Stroll the Malecon, an elevated, pedestrian-only walk where sand sculptors create breathtaking images, gymnasts hang, twirl, and fly 100 feet over head, artists sell their ware, and restaurants abound. Explore Old Town, discover Gringo Gulch, participate in the Wednesday evening Gallery Hops, or have a romantic and elegant dinner on rooftops of historic haciendas featuring 12 piece violin mariachi bands. Night clubs, theaters, restaurants, dance, art, history, architecture, music, fireworks, and more await the adventure soul.
Make your stay at Casa Escondida as quiet and tranquil, or active and busy as you like. Perfectly located in the town, along the beach, and throughout the Bay, Casa Escondida is a memorable place to be.

Best vacation ever
Best vacation ever
My husband and I had the wonderful opportunity to stay in this perfect casita for 2 weeks with our 5 year old son. The casita was so comfortable, clean, and absolutely felt like home away from home. The yard of the casita was huge and with the outdoor grill and the many places to sit and relax we were able to cook and have drinks just like we would at home in the summer. The casita was just a 30 second walk to the pool were our son spent most of the time swimming and fooling around, and just right through the gate was expansive beach with waves that were the perfect size for playing in. The owners Leo and Cathy were exceptional in making us feel welcome, relaxed and offered great advice about where to eat, what to see, and directions. They were available to answer any questions we had at anytime but also made sure to give us our space so that we could enjoy our time as a family. I would recommend this place for anyone looking to feel embedded into the community, privacy, and the advantage of having great people nearby who can help you make your vacation full of adventures and memories. We will be back and hopefully make it in to a whole month as there is so much to see and do. For anyone travelling to Bucerias make sure to visit the local market on Sunday and Wednesday, Linda's Tacos, Karen's place for happy hour, and be adventurous and take the public transportation to places like La Cruz, Sayulita, Destiladeras! Enjoy your trip!

Our 7th year in Bucerias our first stay at this charming Casita. The photo's are exactly what you get - a very comfortable and clean home. Everything you could possibly need is in the casita or will be provided by Cathy and Leo. We love this town - many great places to eat within walking distance. If you like to cook the Mega store is better than some stores in the states. Traveling is very easy - buses and cabs are close and easily available. We stayed a month this time - it went too fast. Plan to spend a month next year too. Thanks Cathy and Leo for the great time.

This is a beautiful and enjoyable casita as the listing photos and description depict. The patio is wonderful - we fell asleep on the lounge chairs; however, the beds are very comfortable. We admired the original artwork and the bright, colorful and cheery atmosphere. The kitchen is well stocked with plenty of pots and pans, dishes and glassware, new appliances and everything we needed. Shopping in Bucerias and Puerto Vallarta is great - the fabrics and especially handwoven and hand embroidered goods are quite elegant. We took a local bus to Puerto Vallarta and back. The ocean promenade is magnificent there and has remarkable sculpture and even hand carved sand sculpture on the beach! The art galleries are worth visiting in both Bucerias and Puerto Vallarta. The owners are so friendly and very knowledgable about the region. We loved our vacation there and hope to return next year.

Birthday Celebration in Bucerias
Birthday Celebration in Bucerias
My husband and I had a wonderful time staying at Casa Escondida to celebrate my 60th birthday. My best friend (who is renting the place for 2 months) invited us down for 5 days of sunshine, great local and home prepared food, abundant shopping (both in Bucerias and Puerta Vallerta) and of course miles of beach to explore. The casita is very comfotable, has a great kitchen to cook in (if you would like), and with 2 bedrooms/ 2 full baths provided more than plenty of space for the 3 of us. In addition, since the whole property is enclosed it was safe for my best friends Yorkie. The large patio has a grill (which we used), lounge chairs and dining table, which doubles the feel of the place. Cathy and Leo made themselves available to assist in many ways.Since they have been living in Mexico for some 8 years they are very knowledgeable not only about various restaurants and shopping but about the whole region and numerous side trips one could take. We did venture into Puerto Vallerta one day for shopping and another morning out into the countryside to a charming restaurant set-up on a hill overlooking the surrounding farmlands. Town of Bucerias is very charming, friendly and we had no problem using our "resort spanish" plus there are many retired Americans/Canadians living in the area. What better way to celebrate your birthday than with those you love and your toes in the sand.

About the owner: Leo grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the seventh of eight children in an Italian immigrant family. Learning the love and tender care of orchard trees and vegetable gardening from his father, Leo became a world-wide fresh market seed specialist for the Asgrow Seeds Company. I (Cathy) grew up in Battle Creek, Michigan and also had a father that loved to garden. I became a landscape architect and enjoyed a 25 year career in site planning and landscape design. Leo and I meet in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It was an immediate match. As Leo says, 'Cathy was the first girl I ever met that could talk dirt.' Soil sciences and agriculture brought us together, and raising two spectacular children bound us forever. Our daughter Elizabeth is a Professor of History at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, and our son Dominic is an employment specialist for the IT/Technology industry in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It is the inspiration and admiration we have for our children that directs us in every step we take.
Why the Owner Chose Bucerias:
Leo and I first came to Bucerias in March of 2005.We were invited to witness a wonderful wedding of two young people we had watched grow up, fall in love, and commit to building a future together. It was our first time visiting Mexico and Bucerias. To the overwhelming surprise of our family and friends, we came home with a sales agreement on a house and life immediately changed! Retirement was looming in front of us like a slow bumpy road to tired bones, senior walks around the mall, early bird specials, and staring out windows at three feet of snow piled in front of the door. When we came home from the wedding, our kids told us we had raised the definition of 'impulse buying' to new levels. Suddenly we found ourselves in a country where the word 'taco' was not followed by the word 'bell', time slowed to a siesta pace, and we could eat all the shrimp, avocados, and 200 different beans or cheeses we wanted. Long walks on the beach, making new friends from all over the world, and learning to live with and love the Mexican people has given us a future we never imagined. The generosity and patience of our Mexican neighbors is limitless. Eight years later, Bucerias and this wonderful house is our home. We are now fortunate and honored to manage and care for the authentic, beautiful casita next door. These two houses join together to create a little piece of heaven on earth in the warm, sunny embrace of peace and tranquility.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Location, location, location! You cannot find many better located homes in Bucerias than Casa Escondida. A few steps in one direction, you are at the pool or on miles of sandy beaches. A few steps in the other direction you are in the heart and soul of this fantastic Mexican pueblo. Casa Escondida welcomes you back from every excursion with a shaded, cool patio, garden greenery, and all the comforts of home. It's just plain easy to get around, get what you want, and relax. We couldn't ask for a better location and environment.
