Thank you for your interest in our vacation property. The home is comfortable and cozy (about 1600 square feet) and sits on a large lot (80'X62') for plenty of off-street parking plus a large back yard with a GIANT shade tree, Weber natural gas grill (no tanks to worry about), picnic table, several lounge chairs and table/chairs, and an outside shower (w/hot and cold water). There is also an extra full-size refrigerator in the garage for your convenience.

Pets? Please see policy below (i.e. no long-haired shedding pets will be permitted unless clipped and groomed prior to moving in).

It has two bedrooms on the first floor which is beneficial to those who can't climb stairs and two bedrooms on the second floor; central air conditioning was recently installed. The second-floor master bedroom has a door which leads to the expansive 16 foot by 20 foot fiberglassed sundeck (which sits atop the garage).

Please note that the master bedroom has only a doorway; not a door (however, privacy is afforded via the layout of the bedroom). The southern exposure to the back of the home affords plenty of sun and the view of the stars at night is truly 'astronomical'; bring your telescope!

There is plenty of deck furniture for your sunning, dining, and relaxing pleasure plus an electrical outlet for your convenience. Since this area of LBI is only one block wide, there is very little street traffic which offers security and serenity to enhance your relaxation.

The home affords close proximity to both the beach (7th from the beach) and the bay (10th from the bay) since this area of the island is only one block wide. As for the beach, because this area of LBI is sparsely populated, it is very spacious; no need to worry about 'turf wars'. The boulevard is easy to cross.

The water is very clean and dolphin schools can often be seen feeding close to the beach. Surf fishing can be good if your timing is right. There is a jetty adjacent to our beach access and life-guarded beaches (in season) in either direction. Keep in mind that the house is only a short distance away should you need to return for something. The climb over the sand dune is short but for those who prefer a boarded access, a handicap ramp has been built just one short block over.

As for the bay located at the other end of the street, there are spectacular views of the sunset and bay waters. As it is close to the inlet, many boats can be seen traversing the waters. Just a few yards to the south is a playground which is State-owned and maintained. It has a small beach where there are no waves and warmer waters... great for toddlers!

The playground also offers benches, tennis and basketball courts, a swing set, see-saws, and a play gym. On the north side of our street is a bulkheaded lagoon where many boats are docked and crabbing can be done. Check out the boats and the homes, too! Maybe take a bike ride back there for an up-close view?

We have several (7) bicycles and beach chairs (7) which you are welcome to use. Also, we have plenty of beach toys and 'boogie boards' for your use, as well. We know that these items can take up a lot of room when packing the car for vacation. Also as a courtesy, we provide four beach badges which will save you quite a bit of money. There is an air pump available and we've also added a pair of walkie-talkies for your convenience; maybe call someone back at the house while you're at the beach?

At the very southern end of the island, about 12 short blocks away, is Edwin B. Forsythe Wildlife Preserve; we recommend taking a nice walk or bike ride. This Federally-funded and maintained area has SPECTACULAR, uninhibited views of the ocean, the natural beach, and the Atlantic City skyline. Many wedding photos are taken here! It also has a beach for bathing, public restrooms, and a long jetty/bulkhead which is great for fishing (Note: There is an admission charge for motor vehicles, but not foot or bicycle traffic). Also at this end (just prior to the park entrance) is a deli/convenience store; great for picking up a cup of coffee, bagels, a newspaper, some lotion, lunchmeat, etc.

The island, about 20 miles long, has quite a bit of history. There is a museum close by, old Victorian homes dating back many years, and "Old Barney," Barnegat Lighthouse, at the north end of the island. There is a copy of "Great Storms of the Jersey Shore" for your reading pleasure in the home. Also in Barnegat Light Borough resides the commercial fishing fleet in Viking Village. Stop by to see them unload their catches, buy some (very) fresh seafood, or do some shopping.

Party boats are also close by for those who enjoy deep-sea fishing; they even offer rod rentals and supply the bait. The jetty at Barnegat Inlet was built a few years ago and is open to visitors and fisherman who can walk out along the inlet (cement sidewalk with railing).

There are plenty of restaurants and retail shops all over the island! Fantasy Island, an arcade and amusement park, is located about three to four miles away in Beach Haven; there is also a magnificent water slide there! A public golf course is about 15 miles away on the mainland but the island has plenty of miniature courses which the whole family can enjoy.

PETS? We will consider pets (for an additional $150/pet fee) on a case-by-case basis. Sorry, but long-haired, shedding pets are not permitted unless clipped and groomed before moving in. We understand that pets are an integral part of a family and that kennels are expensive, inconvenient, and stressful. No guarantees that we will permit a pet.

As you can see, the area is very attractive, offers many conveniences and we, as homeowners, offer many extras that others don't. I have a few more pictures available. Please e-mail or call with any questions.

I recently changed careers and now am a Registered Nurse. My wife works for Travelers Insurance Company.

Why the Owner Chose Holgate

My wife and I rented in September, 1990 and fell in love with Holgate. The next Spring, we bought the well-kept home (on a double lot) from a nice gentleman who lived alone. The home has been well-kept and we upgrade it every year. This year, we put in a brand new kitchen plus cedar fence in the back and side yards.

The Unique Benefits of this Single Family Home

Close to the beach and bay...the island is only one block wide in my area so we enjoy the proximity to the beach (only seven houses) and watch the sunset at the bay. There's also a playground (State owned so it's top quality!) with a play-gym for kids, swings, tennis courts, and basketball court. Very little traffic on the street...it's quiet and relaxing.

    • This was our first time staying in Holgate. What a nice part of LBI. So quiet and a great house and town for the kids. It was so great to be close to the bay beach and playground. The house was great. all the extras, like bikes, chairs, beach toys, etc. really made it an easy vacation when traveling with two babies and a dog. Would definately rent here again. House has everything you need for a great NJ Shore vacation. Thanks for making my little ones first real vacation memorable!

    • We have been vacationing on LBI for over 25 years. Holgate and Caroline Avenue is one of our favorite places to visit and leave our cares behind. This clean and comfortable oasis is inviting and has all the amenities you might need. There is plenty of room for the whole family to relax and have fun. If that's not enough to peak your interest, let us tell you that you only need to walk just a few houses to the beach to enjoy a wonderful sunrise. A short stroll to the bay and you can witness breathtaking sunsets. The owners are real nice people and very easy to work with, not to mention also pet friendly. You will never regret spending your next holiday in this lovely home and will most likely be planning your next stay before the end of your vacation.

    • Highly recommended (though we do this reluctantly - we want to make sure there's room for US next year)! This is such a wonderful part of the island - lots of families, very quiet - there were days when we practically had the beach to ourselves! Yet it's just a short bike ride into Beach Haven. The home was lovely and clean and comfortable - and the roofdeck is fantastic for meals and just hanging out. Just a few steps to the beach for morning walks or fishing...or a few to the bay for beautiful sunsets. The owner, Craig, is a great guy who makes sure that the house is well-stocked with anything you might need for the kitchen or playing on the beach. We'll be returning next year, for sure...
