If you're coming to Highlands to get away from it all, to take long walks in the woods, to lounge in the hammock, or to laugh with loved ones and refresh your spirit, you'll most likely adore this place! Ebby's House is a great old cottage located on the peaceful Big Creek finger of Lake Sequoyah. For over 25 years this house has been shared with folks who are drawn to the natural beauty of Highlands.
Close to town and scenic waterfalls, this home gives you the freedom to cook your own meals, paddle a canoe or kayak, or sit on the back stone porch and watch the hummingbirds fly by. Fully furnished with most modern conveniences, including table linens, fresh herbs and spices, jumbo cotton towels, and even champagne flutes, all you need to bring are your suitcases and your smiles!
If you’ve never been to Highlands before, it’s the kind of Town that has long been forgotten by most. Ebby’s House is less than two miles from downtown Highlands (keep in mind that we use the term "downtown" lightly! Main Street in Highlands is all of four blocks long). Most who visit find this a wonderful place filled with lovely shops, great restaurants and all sorts of fabulous activities if you enjoy the out of doors. There are no chain stores here, all three of our grocery stores are privately owned. We have no shopping malls, and so far- only one fast food chain has slipped into town. Though our year round population for Highlands and Scaly Mountain is about 3,000 - our summer population soars to close to 30,000!
At over 4100 feet in elevation, there’s rarely a summer night when it’s hot in Highlands. No, we do not have central Air Conditioning, nor do most older homes in Highlands and there's a good reason for that, we usually don't need it! We do have a single window AC unit in the upper level for those rare "hot" nights. Our Fall leaf colors are fabulous. Our Winters are crisp and pristine. Our Springs are filled with the surprises that only blooming Tulips and Daffodils can bring.
Though the majority of our Guests visit in the Summer and Fall, we are available for Winter visits too. As an older home, there are a few 'quirks' for cold weather guests to know, but we’ve never had a complaint about a guest not being warm or comfortable! We can’t promise you snow for Christmas or that the lake will be frozen hard enough to ice skate, but the fireplace in the kitchen is a great place to sit and tell tall tales! From January 5 thru April 1 , we do not accept less than full week rentals due to Winterizing costs.
For Summer/Fall Guests, please note that we do not reserve less than full week rentals during any Holiday or more than thirty days in advance (other than from September 10-30 or November 5-19). Sorry, but our THREE NIGHT MINIMUM POLICY IS FIRM.
PLEASE NOTE: No Swimming, Power Boats or Jet Ski's are permitted in Lake Sequoyah as it is a State Reservoir and the drinking water source for the Town of Highlands. We do provide our Guests with a Canoe and Two Person Kayak.
Should the date that you’re interested in already be blocked off on our calendar, please feel free to call or e-mail. Occasionally, we do have last minute cancellations. Need a larger home or an additional house in the same neighborhood(100 yards away)for friends or family? Ask us! We do have another lakefront, 3/2 home with a 2/1 guesthouse in Highlands that will be available for rentals in June of 2008.
Pet Policy: We permit Dogs only on a case-by-case basis for an additional fee. We do not allow 'yappy' or chronic barkers regardless of their breed or size. Visiting pets must be on a Flea Prevention program.
Recycling Policy: Unfortunately, Highlands does not offer curbside recycling. If you care enough about the planet to use our recycle bin, we will take it to the recycling center for you. As part of our 'Put-Out or Shut-Up' initiative, we will also refund a portion of your Guest Fee to show our appreciation!
'Pay It Forward Policy' Believing that each of us CAN make a difference in this crazy world, Ebby’s House donates at least ten percent of all rental fees to organizations that support Human and/ or Environmental missions in the United States. |
