If you're coming to Highlands to get away from it all, to take long walks in the woods, to lounge in the hammock, or to laugh with loved ones and refresh your spirit, you'll most likely adore this place! Ebby's House is a great old cottage located on the peaceful Big Creek finger of Lake Sequoyah. For over 25 years this house has been shared with folks who are drawn to the natural beauty of Highlands. ASK US ABOUT OUR WINTER SPECIALS, GREAT DISCOUNTS!

Close to town and scenic waterfalls, this home gives you the freedom to cook your own meals, paddle a canoe or kayak, or sit on the back stone porch and watch the hummingbirds fly by. Fully furnished with most modern conveniences, including table linens, fresh herbs and spices, jumbo cotton towels, and even champagne flutes, all you need to bring are your suitcases and your smiles!

If you’ve never been to Highlands before, it’s the kind of Town that has long been forgotten by most. Ebby’s House is less than two miles from downtown Highlands (keep in mind that we use the term "downtown" lightly! Main Street in Highlands is all of four blocks long). Most who visit find this a wonderful place filled with lovely shops, great restaurants and all sorts of fabulous activities if you enjoy the out of doors.

There are no chain stores here, all three of our grocery stores are privately owned. We have no shopping malls, and so far- only one fast food chain has slipped into town. Though our year round population for Highlands and Scaly Mountain is about 3,000 - our summer population soars to close to 30,000!

At over 4100 feet in elevation, there’s rarely a summer night when it’s hot in Highlands. No, we do not have central Air Conditioning, nor do most older homes in Highlands and there's a good reason for that, we usually don't need it! We do have a single window AC unit in the upper level for those rare "hot" nights. Our Fall leaf colors are fabulous. Our Winters are crisp and pristine. Our Springs are filled with the surprises that only blooming Tulips and Daffodils can bring.

Though the majority of our Guests visit in the Summer and Fall, we are available for Winter visits too. As an older home, there are a few 'quirks' for cold weather guests to know, but we’ve never had a complaint about a guest not being warm or comfortable! We can’t promise you snow for Christmas or that the lake will be frozen hard enough to ice skate, but the fireplace in the kitchen is a great place to sit and tell tall tales! The first 2 weeks in November and December, plus from January 5 through March 31, we offer special discounted rates up to 50% off our normal guest rates and we can be flexible about dates and check in times.

For Summer/Fall Guests, please note that we do not reserve less than full week rentals during any Holiday or more than thirty days in advance (other than from September 10-30 or November 5-19). Sorry, but our THREE NIGHT MINIMUM POLICY IS FIRM, other than in the "OFF Season" time periods.

PLEASE NOTE: No Swimming, Power Boats or Jet Ski's are permitted in Lake Sequoyah as it is a State Reservoir and the drinking water source for the Town of Highlands. We do provide our Guests with a Canoe and Two Person Kayak.

Should the date that you’re interested in already be blocked off on our calendar, please feel free to call or e-mail. Occasionally, we do have last minute cancellations. Need a larger home or an additional house in the same neighborhood(100 yards away)for friends or family? Ask us, we have neighbors who also rent their homes.

Pet Policy:
We permit Dogs only on a case-by-case basis for an additional fee. We do not allow 'yappy' or chronic barkers regardless of their breed or size. Visiting pets must be on a Flea Prevention program.

Recycling Policy:
Unfortunately, Highlands does not offer curbside recycling. If you care enough about the planet to use our recycle bin, we will take it to the recycling center for you. As part of our 'Put-Out or Shut-Up' initiative, we will also refund a portion of your Guest Fee to show our appreciation!

'Pay It Forward Policy'
Believing that each of us CAN make a difference in this crazy world, Ebby’s House donates at least ten percent of all rental fees to local organizations that support Human and/ or Environmental missions.

    • Our much needed recharge began on June 27th "our anniversary" of 11 happy years.Joye and i have tried 3 other times to get to Ebbys but the Army had other plans,My beautiful wife is a 30 plus year veteran who has been on active duty this time since 2004 and planning time away is not always easy.Sarah and Bob...wow you wont be able to find two more caring and accomodating people. Thanks to their kindness and helpful consideration we were finally able to get to Ebbys House and to say it was worth the wait is such a understatement! We walked in to find fresh cut flowers through out the home, all the windows open with a breeze that seemed to be comming straight from Heaven blowing through our new home for the next week. Please keep in mind this is June and July and we never had to run the air conditioner. So much love and caring could be seen as well as felt through out the home,in the many family photos as well as the hand made items there,it was so comfy and cozy. The outside area was decorsted with American Flags and ribbons and the beautiful colorful flowers were all overwhelming. The lake was so peaceful we canoed or kyaked every day,the day time temps averaged 72-78 highs and 46-50 nights,so comfortable,No Humidity,No Misquitoes and for the first time in my life we cut a watermelon and No Flies came to join us!The Highlands community has so much to offer in hikeing trails, beautiful waterfalls, plenty of shops and restaurants of any caliber your heart desires. If you and your family and friends are looking for the absolute perfect place to get away to and the Absolute nicest people in Sarah and Bob to take special care of you then look no further you have found the end of the rainbow! Joye and i are so looking forward to getting back to Ebbys as soon as we can,Joye will finally come off orders July 2010 and we plan to head back to paradise at Ebbys in the Highlands. • We had a wonderful time on our week getaway staying at the Ebby’s House. Upon arrival, the house was spotless and fresh flowers (from the garden) were on the kitchen table. The house offers the comfort of home with everything you need without having to ask down to herbs in the garden. During the day you can canoe or kayak on the lake. At night, sleeping in complete silence with fresh air blowing through the open windows was as peaceful as it gets. But any time of the day or night, sitting out on the porch watching butterflies, hummingbirds and fireflies will help you relax and enjoy your visit. We recommend this rental property and plan to return ourselves.

    • We vacationed at Ebby's house in July 2008 and had a WONDERFUL time. The house is incredibly charming, warm, and homey. So much loving attention to detail is evident in the amenities: the beautiful claw foot bathtub; hummingbird feeder which attracts tons of birds; gorgeous landscaping and an herb garden; wonderful music and interesting books for guest use; the guest and owner journals kept for close to 30 years; and family pictures and some historical background displayed in the bedrooms. The porch is cozy and provides a beautiful view of Lake Sequoyah. We ate our dinner outside each night as we watched the fire flies. And once while having my morning coffee, I even saw two otters swim by. We would highly recommend this rental property and hope to return again next summer. We only wished we could have stayed longer and that the weather was cool enough to use that great fire place in the kitchen! Warm Wishes, Kim, Kirt & Katey Howard

    • We rented Ebby's House this past October. It was THE PERFECT spot for a "getaway" for us both. The house is very well equiped, clean, well appointed, and comfortable. We felt right at home the minute we arrived and hated to leave at the end of our stay. It truly is suit-case-ready. The landscaping and the grounds were beautiful in the early fall and we can only imagine how extraordinaryly beautiful it would be in the spring and summer! We paddled all over lake Sequoyah in the canoe and two kayaks that were provided. There is plenty of room to roam just around the lake and areas adjacent to the house. Highlands is a magical place. We have a family house in Highlands that we have visited for many years. That house was not available the week we had scheduled for our vacation so we rented Ebby's House after an internet search. We were NOT disappointed and now we have a problem. We loved Ebby's House so much that we are now torn between the two. It is a perfect spot for an intimate retreat. You will love Ebby's House too.

    • We enjoyed a wonderful, peaceful vacation at this delightful cottage. The well equipped kitchen meant we could spend more time at the cottage and less running around, which we were thrilled about.

    • We had a great time at Ebby's House. The Fentons have done a wonderful job of preserving that 50s/60s cabin-in-the-woods feel, although, it has everything you could possibly need from the clawfoot tub to the coffee maker and from the hummingbird/butterfly gardens to the covered porch overlooking the lake. We're looking forward to returning.

    • What a wonderful, relaxing time we had at Ebbyshouse. It's a charming cottage which reminds us of a calmer, simpler time. We fell in love with the hummingbirds and the lovely garden and enjoyed paddling around the lake. It was tough to come home but we have great memories and hope to return next year.

    • What a getaway! The weather was wonderfully cool. We enjoyed canoeing and kayaking, reading books from an extensive in-home library, watching hummingbirds and other assorted wildlife, shopping in town, eating out (and in!), and above all, the relaxation and stresslessness of it all. Thanks for letting us make ourselves at home at Ebby's House for a week.

    • We had a wonderful, relaxing week at Ebby’s house. I’ll never forget the view from the porch, the quiet calmness of it, broken only by the buzzing of the hummingbirds and the bees. We ate on the porch most nights, took naps in the hammock under the trees, went hiking in the mountains. The house was comfortable, peaceful, and stocked with the all the things you might need – board games, local information and a terrific library. I even found a needle and thread handy to fix a torn sleeve. For Floridians, it was such a treat to come downstairs on a June morning and see the temperature on the porch reading below 65! Don’t forget to bring a sweater and be prepared to slow down and watch nature hurrying.
