  The photos of the property don't convey the smell of the sea, the sounds of seagulls and crashing waves that awaits you at each open window. The property is very well cared for, and I would call the kitchen extremely well equipped for a rental. Beachgoers were constantly on the move on the sidewalk across the street, but for me this only added to the experience. Car noise is minimal, won't be a problem. The property owner gave excellent nearby grocery & restaurant recommendations. Excellent stereo in the house, too, with speakers in most rooms.

  Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children, age 55+.

  The pix on the website don't do the panoramic view justice. They couldn't possibly! We enjoyed 6 days at this beautiful house in Santa Cruz. We had 5 adults and 4 kids, and there was plenty of room. House had everything we could possibly have needed. Even the one thing it was missing (a hair dryer), one of the home's gracious owners stopped by 15 minutes after we called him to drop off a brand new hair dryer. You're in great hands with Matt and Michael--they couldn't have been nicer and bent over backwards to provide everything from restaurant advice to, well, hair dryers. We loved the people watching on the beachfront path from the house's deck and upper floor. We hit the hot tub almost every night. You can watch surfers all daylight hours. We recommend strolling down the path along Opel Cliffs down to the market, where you can get killer breakfast burritos. If you have toddlers who don't manage stairs that well, you may want to think about a contraption to block the stairs. Our young ones managed the stairs pretty quickly, though. While we vey much enjoyed the CD collection in the house (good mix of classic rock, easy listening, new age--but mostly from 70s and 80s), if you have different tastes, you may want to bring either your own CDs, or better, an RCA adapter so you can connect your smartphone to play your own tunes through the very nice sound system throughout the house's upper floors. Gas BBQ grill worked great--we cooked out several times. Brats and beers in the evening, with the backdrop of the surf as dusk approaches--you can't beat it. Life is good at this home away from home. Many thanks to Michael and Matt. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again next time we're in Santa Cruz!

  This was one of the best family vacations we have ever had and it had much to do with the house and the location!!! I went with my 3 children and their friends! The house is gorgeous! The pictures on the site don't do it justice!! My kids are older so the space and the rooms worked out perfectly. We loved that there was only 1 TV because we were all together in the sitting room listening to the fabulous music (great CD collection) and just chillin!! The view is AMAZING and all of us were often on the deck just gazing out at the ocean! Plus the little beach just across the street rocked!!! The kids laid out and body surfed to their hearts content and just walked home! We even walked to Capitola for lunch - only took us about 15 minutes! My daughter and I love to cook and the kitchen was well equipped. The grill is a bit rusty but we still used it every night for dinner. If you are blessed enough to be able to stay a week in the beautiful home have fun and enjoy it like we did!!! I already want to go back!!!

  WOW, did your home make our weekend special! The girl scout bridging ceremony was wonderful down on your beach. They came as cadettes and are leaving as seniors. This will be remembered often in the years to come as one of the best activities ever. Thank you for having us.

  We enjoyed your 5-STAR home as we celebrated a memorable graduation at UCSC. It was a perfect setting for our family and friends to come together from Phoenix, Tucson, Yuma, Arroyo Grande and Redondo Beach. The weather was stellar. The view was to die for. You provided everything that anyone could ever need. Thanks for sharing with us.

  We have had an absolutely superb time here, the location is just out of this world. It is so relaxing either sitting on the balcony watching the surfers or taking a walk along the beach. We will undoubtedly come back at some point and hopefully can stay hear again. Matt, if you are ever in Scotland looking to play golf, please contact me.

  We had a great time and enjoyed your house very much. My grandkids were excited to see lots of Legos, videos, toys, etc. The band right outside the front of the house during the wharf to whart race was great. Thank you

  What a great house for a family get together. We really enjoyed cooking and hanging out in the kitchen and great room with the ocean views. Plenty of room for 10 people to move around. Thanks for having all the supplies we could ever need: spices, utensils, towels, detergent, etc. You really have a knack for making guest feel at home. See you again some time.
