We are an easy taxi ride to Union Square and world class shopping, the Ferry Building and the Slanted Door, and the new de Young Museum; or you can venture out indeed all over San Francisco to experience the hottest new spots in SOMA, Cow Hollow, or the mission district.

Not As Expected!
Not As Expected!
This property is on a dead-end street at the top of Vallejo and Mason...there is no parking available to unload baggage and 56 steps to climb. Very dangerous stairway with only one handle. Property only has one smoke alarm and not positive it is in working order. We assumed that the 1/2 bath would be larger and have a shower or tub. It is really a 1/4 bath remodeled from a very small closet. Three towels were left for an entire week for 4 adults. Very dusty and dirty...bedding has not been aired out for some time. This apartment needs a thorough cleaning and mopping. Kitchen floors had old food and dirt underneath the cabinets. Deck is a shared easement with several others properties...people are going up and down at all times of the day and night. Dangerous steps down to the garbage cans and laundry room. The only redeeming quality is the view of Coit Tower and the Bay Bridge. Park below the front window is very disgusting with trash, dog feces, plastic bottles, and someone's nasty surgical gloves! Very overpriced even though the America's Cup venue was in full swing. Any extra sheets or towels are available for an additional $150.00. We did enjoy some of the ethnic food in the area; however, I would stay in a hotel at any cost after this experience with room service, daily change of towels, sheets, and a concierge.

Owner response: Response to Review for Vallejo I’m so sorry our guests didn’t have a good experience. It sounds from the summary line of his review, that hotels and on site service are more his cup of tea than a Vacation Rental by Owner, but let me address a couple of specific concerns. The property is located at the dead end of Vallejo, right next to the Ina Coolbirth Park, (named after California’s first poet laureate), which provides an incredibly quiet location right in the heart of Russian Hill and San Francisco. It is a public park, and there are times between city cleaning that a bit of trash collects at the bottom of the park steps, in the parking places at the top of Vallejo. Both our neighbor and our maintenance person pick up that trash, but it can collect. There are steps to climb, (as shown in the photo of the exterior of the home on the Vacation Rental by Owner website and our personal website, 948vallejo, and the position of the property on the hill creates the incredible views from every single window. But the property is a Vacation Rental by Owner and not a hotel: no concierge or service person is there to help with the bags. The stairway along side the steps and the park is a city stairway, not part of our property. The ½ bath is a ½ bath with a sink and toilet: a bath with a shower or tub would be a full bath. The deck outside the unit is private to the unit. My concern with the review is that during their full week stay in our home, we never heard from the guests. Our daughter, (a young architect in San Francisco), lives in a cottage adjoining the property, and if there were a problem with the cleaning crew or not enough towels, we could easily have remedied the problem: guests just need to ask. While we don’t have a concierge on the property as hotels do, we have a family member just a phone call or an email away. Our guest chose what we all thought was the final week for the America’s Cup tournament, which had been going on in preliminary stages beginning in July. Who knew that the America’s Cup would not end the end of last week, but go on to a 19th race, until Team Oracle finally won 9 – 8! I’m afraid that the guests had not scheduled to stay in our property before the America’s Cup had been won.
What a superb experience! This property is perfectly located, with a terrific ambience , beautiful views and is a great place to stay. Russian hill, Chinatown, little Italy are all just a short walk away. We felt really at home here. The apartment is very well presented with high quality furniture ,everything is absolutely spotless and this was by far the best apartment we stayed in during our trip to California. Ps the owner was totally professional and amazingly helpful. I Recommend this lovely home to you.

From this lovely residence you can easily walk to Fisherman's wharf, Little Italy, and China Town. The cable car stops at the corner and with a Muni pass you can ride to your heart's content. The views are awesome and the place is beautifully furnished. You can sit out and watch the cars and trucks going over the Bay Bridge and the ferries and sailboats crossing the bay while listening to the charming distant clatter of the cables. Easy walk to Coit Tower, bus ride to the Golden Gate Bridge. No end to the wonderful, and affordable, restaurants within walking distance. Rent bikes a block away. Short walk to grocery stores. You will feel like a resident as you enjoy this amazingly wonderful city from a really ambient setting.

SRNA STUDENTS IN TOWN FOR THE AANA CONFERENCE - SAN FRANCISCO AUGUST 2012
Wow!!! what an amazing place to stay in the heart of San Francisco. Located in the perfect location in Russian Hill, just steps away from Chinatown and a cable car. Chinatown has some amazing food, for the right price, tasty and authentic. Just two blocks away from the house. So lets talk the house. The kitchen is beautiful! up to date appliances and roomy. The fridge is huge. Many books for your reading pleasure on a bookshelf opposite side of the kitchen. The living room. Flat screen TV with cable, we watched the Olympics while in town! internet is included and fast. House has two amazing bedrooms, comfy and includes robes in each room. The master bathroom is a huge walk in shower, this thing is pretty amazing, large shower head, its like a steam room in there, turn the heat up in the house for a nice treat, this room is the warmest in the house. The living room is off the front of the house and there is a pull out couch. We were comfortable with 8 in the house for the week. Air mattress in the tv room, blows up in 5 minutes or less. Off the back of the house is the deck with some amazing views of the city. Views of coit tower and the city. We had sunny days, warm days, cold days, foggy days. It was great to experience them all. A few recommendations for things to do.....first alcatraz, if you want to go plan ahead and get your tickets early, these sell out fast. Trip was amazing to the island, plus you get an audio tour on the inside which is fantastic. Fisherman's wharf, just walk around, grab seafood from any of the vendors, also local street performers to see. Coit tower is pretty cool, 7 dollars will get you an elevator ride to the top, plus 37 steps more. The top has amazing views of the city. Gocars-----we rented one for the day, a little pricey but worth it. started at the hyde street location and drove it, gps audio with directions, to the golden gate bridge, gold gate park, the painted ladies, twins peeks, downtown, lombard street, coit tower, lands ends. all amazing spots. Food- if you like italian go to mona lisa on columbia, anything on columbia is good, check it out!!! beer- for a beer tour in the anchor brewing company, check there site out, free tour, free beer, 2 hours, call ahead and make a reservation a few months in an advance. For a brewhouse got to the Rogue Brewhouse a few blocks from the house. For the best blood marry go to Zeitgeist, its a little ways from the house, get a cab. Thank you so much for an excellent experience!!!!!!

About the owner: For the last 20 years, my husband has served as Chancellor of two statewide higher educational systems: the University of West Virginia System, in Charleston, West Virginia; and the Tennessee Board of Regents, in Nashville, Tennessee. He is a very gentle and gracious man who cares deeply about education. Yet with state resources strained to the limit these days, public education is a highly politicized enterprise, with increasing competition for decreasing dollars. So after each of his quarterly board meetings, I would whisk Charles out to San Francisco for a little break: to restore and re-charge, to rest and read, to walk the wonderful streets of San Francisco and to eat in grand restaurants in the City. The result is this apartment. It is such a perfect spot, with its panoramic views, elegant interiors, and central location: it has become our home away from home, beckoning us from our busy lives, something we look forward to and truly embrace in our lives. If you are looking for an opportunity for just the right place, to get a break, restore and re-charge, and still be in the center of a vibrant city with all it has to offer, this could be the place for you.
