Why the Owner Chose Sayulita

Sayulita is our favorite town in Mexico

The Unique Benefits at this House

La Joyita is the perfect small house. It is tucked up on the hill above the beach with beautiful ocean views and a quiet, peaceful atmosphere. The house stays cool in the heat with nice breezes coming up from the ocean. It truly is "the jewel".

We have stayed at La Joyita almost every year since 2003 and have referred a number of people to the property. It is a truly remarkable find. Close to the beach and to the lovely town of Saylita, it is quiet, restful, and oh so comfortable with plenty of room for four adults. It is clean and well-maintained with flowers and plants that enhance privacy. It sits on a hill with an unparallelled view of the ocean and the area nearby. La Joyita will continue to be our #1 choice in Mexico!

wonderful little jewel

My husband and I first traveled to Sayulita 6 years ago and stayed at the little jewel - La Joyita. We loved it. Away from the village with a direct path to the beach. Tucked away on the hill , it is everything we dreamed about. The porch swing was my favorite and many evenings , I feel asleep listenting to the ocean. The main bedroom has a great bed (I have a bad back and mexican mattresses are like cement) and the second room with two twin beds is great for kids or single adults. The house is clean and the garden well tended. You eat your meals out on the huge porch . And there is a well suppled lending library. I highly recommend this spot...I think it is a bargain and would always stay north of the village.

I apologize to the guest who had trouble sleeping because of the jungle noises. This, to many is a delight and obviously not something over which we have control. The sun changes with the seasons which means the later in the season the more the sun. Town is less than a mile away from the house, so it generally takes 10-15 minutes to walk to the center of the village. Unfortunately, the tip information was written incorrectly and now has been changed to the same amount for a group, not person.

We loved La Joyita!

La Joyita was absolutely perfect for us. It was so quiet and restful and we loved the birds and butterflies in the morning and the jungle sounds and geckos at night with the consistent rhythm of the waves all day and night long. The house was clean and Juana the maid/gardener was wonderful. The quiet location at the north end of town suited us well. I highly recommend La Joyita for a sweet, private, pristine, romantic getaway.

La Joyita - Quite alot of noise

Date of Stay: 12/31/11 Review Submitted: 01/12/12

There are some pro's and cons to this unit: Pros - Is quite secluded from the main part of the town - Fully loaded kitchen, bedrooms, and bathroom - Has a nice front porch - Has a nice sitting area in the front Cons - Quite a walk away from town (20 min or so) - There are screened windows with shutters but there is no glass in the windows. This creates an airy feel to the place but allows the noise of the jungle to keep you up at night - The front porch does not receive the morning sunshine nor the evening. It is very nice but is only sunny from about 12:00 PM to about 3 PM - The place is VERY noise from jungle bug noises. We needed to sleep with ear plugs - Directions on how to get to the place where not clear and we got quite lost trying to find the place - There is an expectation that the maid be tipped $10 per person per week and the person who delivers water 5$ per person per week. Overall recommendation: I would not stay here again or recommend a friend stay at La Joyita

Owner response:Adam, I am so sorry for your inconvenience. I have posted a review in response. The tip information left at the house should have read per group, not per person. It sounds as if your trip did not go well and for the parts we had any control over, I apologize. We are currently putting a map on the site, although the road to the house has no name as you know, so it is tricky.

Hillside retreat

Guest: Sally (Kalispell, MT)
Date of Stay: 04/01/10 Review Submitted: 07/16/11

La Joyita is a beautiful little retreat perched on a hillside wild garden of trees and flowers and firds looking out over the ocean. The house is open to the ocean breeze so we slept, ate, hung out in the fresh air the entire time we were there. We've stayed three different times and it feels like we are coming home each time. The house is comfortable, and offers a quiet contrast to the the busy little village and beach of Sayulita. The house is well cared for and the kitchen has everything needed to cook up meals. The outdoor shower in the backyard garden is a great feature. It's a perfect getaway from the cold climates of the north in spring.
