French Country in the heart of the Texas Mountains
French Country in the heart of the Texas Mountains
This charming French styled cottage is tre magnifique! It has beautiful views of the mountain ranges in every direction you look and you can even see part of the McDonald Observatory. The house is set atop a hill in a ranchette-style community and each room is decorated with such care and charm that you can tell the owner has collected all of the things that give the home so much character from tons of different parts of the world. The areas around the cottage are the perfect place to spend quiet time and discover new animals. The hot tub is a great place to sip on a drink and look up at the stars at night and the fire pit is nice for roasting marshmallows! Alpine and Marfa are about a 20 minute drive and the scenic loop is the perfect leisure ride for a sunny afternoon. It rained while we were there(which we were told is not very common) and the landscape turned bright green. We had the best time waking up to the sunny rooms and relaxing during our entire stay, I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a fun and relaxing time!

I've stayed here several times before last Labor Day weekend when this place was a well kept secret you could only find on the Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce website. The 360 degree views are amazing and the scenery is the among the best in the whole Fort Davis/Alpine/Marfa area. The house is located on a dead end road with only one other house past it so there's almost no traffic and the privacy can't be beat. The McDonald Observatory is right up the road which hosts star parties after dark that are really fun where you get to look through giant telescopes. We went hiking in the area around the house and found an indian cave and saw lots of wildlife (whitetail/mule deer, aoudad, javelina). We also hiked in the Davis Mountains State Park (less than 10 minutes away) and checked out the cool old fort at Fort Davis. After hiking and driving around sight-seeing all day we sat in the hot tub and relaxed while the not-so-tired kids swam in the pool. Just the view from the hot tub makes this place worth a try. The house is really liveable if you just want to watch a movie and the proprietor is extremely nice and easy to work with. This is by far my favorite spot to stay in the Big Bend Region and I would highly recommend this place after staying in several other hotels/houses in Fort Davis, Alpine and Marfa.
