From the moment you step on to the Front Porch and glance down to the waterfront docks, you can feel the connection with Apalachicola (The local Native word meaning 'Friendly People'). The Home has 12 foot Ceilings built with timbers from the famous Bay Cypress Mills in the 1800's.
This Wonderful House was the Original Home of the George Family from the turn of the Century (Circa 1900 - 2010). Straight from Greece to Ellis Island to Apalachicola, the George Family made their mark in this Amazing Fishing Community. The George's were such a devoted Greek Family that when it came time to add on to this wonderful home in the early 1900's... Mr. George actually incoorporated their homeland Greek Flag into the ceiling of what we now call the Family Room. We found this during the renovations when we moved two walls. We have painted it out in the original Greek Blue and Whites as a tribute.
Please Come and Enjoy a taste of the past at as you make History and memories for the future with YOUR family and friends at the Beautiful BLUE MOON INN OF APALACHICOLA.

Our stay at the Blue Moon Inn was wonderful. The house has great character, was very comfortable and had lovely touches of antiques - furniture and linoleum rugs, one actually just like my grandmother owned. Everything was there that we needed and it was only a short walk from delicious food and drink. I applaud the owner for creating a warm, inviting, romantic destination perfect for a whole family or just two. The patio was a perfect place to read and feel the breeze from the nearby water front and to enjoy the moon and the stars. We hope to return, and recommend the "Blue Moon Inn" and "Over the Moon" highly.Recommended for: Pet owners, tourists without a car, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

This was our first visit to appalachicola and our whole family loved the trip. Highly recommend staying at Once in a Blue Moon home. The location was perfect. We were within walking distance to shops, restaurants, the river and the bay. St. George island was a quick trip where you can enjoy the beach. The home was fabulous and large enough for our children to have there own space. The home had everything we needed and the owners checked in with us to make, sure we had everything and that we were comfortable. The area is pet friendly and our dog loved going to the beach and to all the restaurants with us.Recommended for: Pet owners, adventure seekers, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

We were looking for a quiet vacation, and thoroughly enjoyed being at the Blue Moon. It is very spacious, much more than 2 people needed, but we made the most of it all. Location is great for walking to all the restaurants we had identified. Loved the historic structure itself, and the owner was most responsive in helping us with information. Definitely recommend.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+.

My mother, four Aunts and I stayed at Blue Moon for two nights and had a wonderful, relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable time. The cottage is comfortable, creatively decorated and the porch was perfect for drinking coffee in the morning. It is also conveniently located in downtown Apalach, within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and the waterfront.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

Our stay at The Blue Moon Inn was a totally enjoyable experience. We especially liked the covenience of the locality and were able to walk to any place in town. We also enjoyed visiting the beach at St. George Island and the closeness of the beach area. The seafood was wonderful and we visited 13 Mile Seafood Market several times during our stay and even brought back some wonderful fresh seafood to enjoy when we returned to Kentucky! We frequented the front porch most of the time when we were at The Blue Moon. It was so relaxing after a day of sightseeing and going to the beach to unwind on the front porch. The furnishings were fabulous as well as the decor. It felt so homey and comfortable. We are glad we chose to stay at The Blue Moon Inn and hope to return to Appalachicola soon!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

Our family recently stayed at the Blue Moon of Apalach. The owners made sure that information on all we would need while in the area was right there. As soon as you walk through the door, you are transported back to "old Florida". The vintage home was so warm and welcoming and we would recommend to anyone visiting this area. The local folks are so friendly and the seafood at Caroline's on the River and the Aplach Seafood Grill was fantastic. A visit to the Old Time Soda Fountain was a nice way to relax in the evenings, sitting on the bench out front. After a day of shopping or the beach, the front porch swing at the Blue Moon was a welcomed relief to our tired feet. If you like a slow paced vacation, then the Blue Moon and Apalachicola is just right for you.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

It's Once in a Blue Moon, that we just pack up and go at a moments notice. With that being said, we stumbled across this great little Inn in Apalachicola, FL while searching VRBO. I will say the college age kids wanted to stay at the beach, but I won out. Instead we stayed in Apalachicola, and we sure glad we did. Once in a Blue Moon Inn was such a great place to stay. It was very quaint and decorated beautifully. We had so much room, which was so nice, and we never got tired of sitting on the front porch watching the world go by. The nice thing about Blue Moon is the kids had their own space and my husband and I had our own. We loved walking around Apalachicola talking to all the locals, or right around the corner is the Tin Shed where you could rent bikes. The owners, were so great to work with. They gave us all kinds of tips for exploring and enjoying the town and the island of St. George. We will definably go back again in the fall and enjoy once again all that the Blue Moon Inn has to offer, along with the town of Apalach.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2010
About the owner: I am originally from Valdosta, Ga. and David, my husband is from Virginia. David was on an Historic Florida three day trip when we accidently met in Apalachicola. I had driven from Atlanta and was picking up the keys to what I 'thought' would be my New Home... This Incredible House in Apalach. After signing the Contract, my closing was not scheduled to take place for months... March of 2010. I suppose timing IS everything. I had to be patient, so as soon as everything was finalized I planned a long weekend trip to pick up Keys and begin planning my restoration. Our meeting was NO accident! It was a Once in a Blue Moon times two encounter!
Why the Owner Chose Apalachicola:
The Contract for this new 'old' home was finalized and signed between the George Estate and myself on the night of a 'Blue Moon' in December of 2009.
You see, my son, Alex had recently graduated from Law School at UGA and I had been living in Atlanta for almost nine years.
I decided to leave the fast pace life of Buckhead, and was naturally drawn back to return to the vacation lands of my childhood. My parents had been bringing their six children to the beaches of St. George Island and the Five and Dime Store of Apalach since 1968.
As I crested the Bridge of Apalach at sunset, I could see the leaky rooftop of this home full of history, but a home which had laid empty for many years.
You see, the George Family gave birth to nine first generation children here after a young couple made their way from Greece to Ellis Island to Apalachicola Circa 1895 to 1900.
Now in 2010 as the new owner, I decided to stop by the Gibson to join the locals for the traditional Friday gathering. How was I to know a 'tourist' would be there to sweep this Newest Apalach Homeowner off her feet?
Our lives changed and WE are now living on the Elizabeth River in the Tide Water area of Virginia!
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
David and I are so excited to share this magical place with you. Please know as you enjoy your stay at the Blue Moon Inn of Apalachicola that our hearts are there as well.
We want you to share YOUR Stories and Memories, too. We will work with you as best we can to make your stay a Special Memory of a Lifetime.
Remember, Once 'in' the Blue Moon, You'll want to come back Sooner!
