The one and only island of Daufuskie! Take the ferry from Hilton Head or Savannah and feel any stress in your life instantly go away with the soft breeze and the refreshing smell of the ocean.
Transportation will be waiting your arrival at the landing, and take you and your luggage to Melrose Plantation, where your peaceful oceanfront cottage awaits you.
Walk in to a place with a magnificent view of the Atlantic that you will find nowhere else on earth. Both doors have been upgraded to electronic code locks for your convenience so you never have to worry about a key while your there!
Each bedroom is the same size with two Queens beds, and full private baths. The bathrooms are large and spacious and include a fairly large tub for a soothing bath. In the open kitchen you are provided with all the necessary pots, pans, plates, glasses and utensils, with plenty of room for your groceries.
The screened in porch looking out at the ocean is a relaxing place to spend the evening with a cocktail. The sun rises in the east and is a beautiful sight coming up early in the morning with some fresh coffee.
On the island of Daufuskie the most difficult decision is to walk the quiet, clean beach, read a book on the back porch listening to the ocean, touring the island on your golf cart and seeing the many wild animals, the seasonal Sea Turtle eggs or historic relics from the Civil War. Don't forget horseback riding, game of tennis, or a round of golf at the famous Jack Nicholas golf course might satisfy. Or you could shop at the Silver Dew Pottery or the Gullah and Island Museum or the Community Farm. Maybe even plan your week with fun filled activities from many of the charter fishing, jet skiing, para sailing, or dolphin tours offered in the area.

Daufuskie Island is pristine, natural and beautiful. If you want to see wildlife in abundance, if you appreciate spectacular ocean and marsh views, if you enjoy uncrowded spaces in a place where everybody is friendly, if you want to play some of the most beautiful golf courses in the world - and you may not even see another golfer while you are on the course - then Daufuskie is your place. It is so worth the extra effort to get there. This cottage is well-equipped, roomy and comfortable. Has a great front porch facing the ocean. The cottage is only a long stone's throw from the pool and club facilities. Owner is easy to work with. Highly recommended!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We felt like we were taking a risk going to Daufuskie Island. We were very skeptical about being so secluded and all the prep work to get there. It was all worth it and more. The cottage was clean, updated, and had plenty of space. The golf cart got us everywhere we needed to go. We all adjusted to "Island Time" quite nicely. Everyone we met was so interesting and helpful. Not once did we hear "I'm bored" from our 19 or 21 year old daughters. The trips over and back and fishing in-between with Chris at May River Excursions were great. The horseback riding was a great treat for all. We would have enjoyed having bikes. Hopefully they are there now or will be for next summer.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our stay at the cottage was very relaxing. We enjoyed shelling and walking on the beach. We only saw one other person on the beach while we were there. The cottage was well decorated. We especially enjoyed sitting on the porch and looking out at the water. I would suggest that this is an excellent get-away if you want something quiet away from the hub-bub. Its just right for a romantic retreat. It would not be enjoyable for those who want to be entertained. We used May River Excursions for the private charter. It cost $100 for 2 people round trip. It is really important to bring all the food items you will need. All in all it was a nice time and we would like to go back again some time.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.
