Welcome!
Surrounded by tree-lined streets, lush squares, & famed architecture, the Savannah Castle Cottage is ready to welcome you to Savannah! Located in the Ardsley Park Historic District, this circa 1930 one-level cottage is filled with original artwork and cottage charm!
The Savannah Castle Cottage is located in the Historic Ardsley Park residential neighborhood only 1.7 miles to Forsyth Park and 3.3 miles south of River Street. Our one bedroom cottage is so-named because of the charming architectural detail of the outside turret. Its your own little castle away from home!
Location:
The Castle Cottage is a quiet escape in the middle of the city.
Ardsley Park is a turn-of-the-century residential neighborhood located a quick 3.3 miles by walk, bike ride, or car to the northern border of the Landmark Historic District. We are 1.7 miles to Forsyth Park.
The neighborhood is known for its abundance of historic architectural showpieces including Tudors, Colonial Revivals, Bungalows, & Cottages!
Ardsley is also known for being a VERY central location. You can bike one mile south down Habersham Street to the Habersham Village to gather groceries, meet the liquorsmith, or even grab a tofu burrito at one of our five little restaurants in the 'HV' (Habersham Village).
If you’d like to have a “walk around the neighborhood” our address is 10 E. 53rd St. Savannah GA 31405.
The Cottage:
The Castle Cottage was bought in 2008 and has been carefully updated to be true to the original cottage character while being mindful to keep the home comfortable!
A hallway off the large living room leads to the sleeping quarters that are divided by a smaller hallway with a bathroom that splits the floor plan.
Castle Cottage's front bedroom features a Queen bed, cozy 100% cotton bedding, & plantation shutters to keep it nice and dark if you like to sleep in (like the owner!) or open up to let the light in! The room features soothing colors, original art, and super snuggly bedding!
The front bedroom features a chifferobe to hang your clothing as well as two bedside tables and a chest of drawers.
Enjoy your coffee service (we have a kettle and French press) in our 'romantic room' or out on the deck or brick patio in the morning. Pick some fresh herbs to add to your meals in our potted garden!

I'm a medical student that came to Savannah during Christmas to visit family. It was so great to stay in this cottage where my fiancé and I could walk almost everywhere. The cottage is clean, comfortable, and perfect for couples. We immensely enjoyed our stay in the Shutterbug! Laurie was very kind and helpful. But after living in Savannah for most of my life I would say there was only one thing missing from the cottage that every downtown Savannah home should have readily available- plastic cups- b/c you can...legally carry a to-go beverage. Despite that I would still happily recommend Shutterbug cottage to my family and friends that want to visit Savannah.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Staying in your properties this past summer for several months has been fantastic. Both Sea Maiden and Shutter Bug where the perfect place to reside after a long day at work. Being able to walk from the houses to the nearby squares, shops, restaurants, and parks made living there a unique experience. Stopping by Russos’ seafood and getting fresh fish can become rather addicting but would recommend it to those who want to cook. You have a great talent of making your guests feel at home with advice for trips, meals and providing good coffee to us pure addicts. Thanks for everything and continue success with your business.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

LOVED our stay here. The decor is fantastic, great colors and the photography displayed on the walls is beautiful! The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed to enjoy meals in the lovely courtyard in the back of the cottage. We did have some rain during our stay, which was the only time we used our car. It is about a 10 to 15 minute walk to River Street, which we enjoyed. The area is quiet/safe and parking was not an issue. We will definitely be coming back next time we are in Savannah. Laurie was fantastic, very helpful with any questions about the rental or Savannah in general.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: Heather, I am so glad you enjoyed staying in the Shutterbug! It really is a delightful quiet area and I'm glad you were able to take in all of what Savannah has to offer! All the best, Laurie d.

The Shutterbug Cottage is ideal for the Savannah experience. My stay was long term (4 months), and I never once had any issues. The cottage itself is very quaint and provides all the amenities you need, while the back porch is extremely private and ideal for a cool southern night. Location wise, it's the best of both worlds. Far enough off the beaten path to provide plenty of peace and quiet yet close enough to the heart of Downtown (roughly half a mile) to walk/ride a bike anywhere you want to go. I seriously only used my vehicle to get groceries and travel on various weekends. The only slight criticism I can provide is that the couch in the living room is not ideal for additional guests or just lounging around. However, I spoke with the property manager about this during my stay and was informed that the owner of the property intends to replace it with a better piece of furniture. Also, there is no grill on the back porch, but, if you're the typical weekend tennant, this should not be an issue since Savannah provides a plethora of exceptional dining options. All in all, I recommend the Shutterbug Cottage for anyone looking to truely enjoy their time in Savannah. I was very sad to leave, but will definately stay here again in the future. Top Notch!!Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

My Wife and I were really pleased with the lay-out and the cleanliness of the Cottage. There was a complete Kitchen for preparing meals, and the bed was so comfortable. The owners were very accommodating to all our needs. Everything you want to see and do was in walking distance, etc. the Riverwalk, City Market, and John the Baptist Cathedrial and other Attractions were in walking distance. I would recommend this property to my friends and famly! Recommended for: adventure seekers, sight seeing, tourists without a car, romantic getawayDid you find this review helpful? My husband and I wanted a weekend getaway within walking distance to the Historic District. The cottage was clean and beautiful. The street was quiet and had great parking. It was a great place to really feel like a local...like you were part of a neighborhood, complete with local eateries within a block. Loved it and we will be back.Did you find this review helpful? The Shutterbug is in a quiet eastern part of downtown. The cottage has everything we could think of including WiFi, cable, a DVD player, a comfortable queen bed, and cute outside area for enjoying the moderate weather - even in December (it was 70 degrees F during our stay!). The two of us walked everywhere during the day and early evening. We especially enjoyed some of the recommendations from the Shutterbug manager. If you bring a car you need to remember to move it on Saturday nights as there is no off-street parking. I guess that is why the rate is so good! We felt safe at the Shutterbug and hope to return soon. We were new to the vacation rental-thing so we had a lot of questions before arrival. The Shutterbug manager was very quick to respond and handled payments via Rentpayment site. I don't like paying fees for sending money online and they have a good option that only costs $5 if you pay via a personal check online. I would recommend paying this way vs. with a credit card that costs you more. The Shutterbug is a good spot for a couple. The bedrooms is tucked away into the back of the house so if one of you wants to stay up late and read or watch tv, the other can sleep in the back of the cottage without being disturbed. Everything was in brand new condition - I think it was just converted from when it was a photography studio.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info

About the owner: Hi, y'all! I'm Laurie d. and I own and manage The Savannah Castle Cottage! I'm a local Realtor that specializes in historic properties and management. After attending Tulane for a Masters in Historic Preservation, I worked at the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation and renovated some homes in Atlanta before heading back to my hometown of Savannah. I manage several other tiny cottages in the historic Savannah downtown area and am actively working to buy the tiniest beach cottage at Tybee that I can find!
Why the Owner Chose Savannah:
This cottage was the perfect location for me. Very convenient to my favorite downtown haunts, 6 miles to Isle of Hope, and 20 miles to Tybee Island!
Ardsley Park is known for being a super friendly and convenient neighborhood and I LOVE MY NEIGHBORS!!
On the weekends, you'll find me riding my bike to the Forsyth Farmer's market (1.7 miles on the bike path) or taking my pup, Tondee, to one of the downtown dive bars like Pinkies or to sit on the deck at Leoci's for brunch!
The bike path system has improved greatly -- if you bring a bike, you will enjoy riding Ardsley's beautiful streets and down to Habersham Village to enjoy brunch or dinner at Five Spot, picking up groceries, getting wine from the liquorsmith, or even a Bikram yoga class! Great neighborhood!
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Staying at the Savannah Castle Cottage gives you the historic charm of yesteryear but in a renovated home. The location is great for hopping around downtown, Bonaventure Cemetery, the beach, or for day trips!
Plus its super quiet and charming -- you have your own little backyard oasis with Italian cafe lights and ample seating for entertaining.
