A walk up the street takes you to a beautiful swimming complex with Tuscan valley views. The complex includes 5 pools, slides for the adventurous and poolside service from the licensed restaurant.
Further up the street brings you to the fabulous CASA, (Centre de Arte de San Augustin) offering international art exhibits, weekly films, and an art library open to the public. The site is the location of a turn-of-the-century textile factory that has been the ongoing project of internationally known Oaxacan artist, Francisco Toledo. The architectural design takes full advantage of the original construction, the abundance of flowing water, indigenous floral displays and fabulous views of the valley. Not to be missed. Next to the Centre is a renovated artisanal paper factory. Also worth a visit. The countryside views are reminiscent of the hills of Tuscany with lots of lush landscaping, perfect for hiking and biking. Several excellent family restaurants in the area will make for a delightful outing.
Our house is ideally situated for traveling to and from Oaxaca City and the surrounding valley. Our village, called Santo Domingo Barrio Alto, is situated about 25 minutes from downtown Oaxaca using a central thoroughfare. Outside our door is the taxi stand (sitio) for 'share taxis' going to the huge abastos market in Oaxaca. From there you can explore this fascinating market, walk to the world famous zocalo or get taxis to the surrounding villages, each noted for its specialty crafts.
Also outside our door is the mototaxi stand where a covered, 3 wheel, 2 seat passenger taxi will take you where you want to go in the community.
The nearby market town of Villas de Etla is a short 5 minute mototaxi ride away. It offers a fresh produce market, internet cafes, an ATM machine, and local family restaurants..
We have hired local staff to assist you with your stay. Rocio Landa is our dynamic house manager, fluent in both English and Spanish. She will arrange tours with driver pickup from the house to such attractions as the Monte Alban & Mitla archeological sites, and to the many craft villages in the area. She will also be able to answer any questions you might have. Our housekeeper, Alexandra, does the laundry and keeps the house clean for the guests. Damian, our outdoor custodian tends the garden and keeps vigil at night.
Transport to and from the airport and bus terminal can be arranged.
After over 12 years of traveling all areas of Mexico, we chose this location and outfitted our house with future retirement in mind. In the meantime, we are happy to share it with others. We love the serenity and clean air of our friendly village coupled with the proximity to a vibrant, culturally rich city, offering: museums; art galleries; language schools; an English language library; world class restaurants; pedestrian-only streets; organic markets; and of course the fabulous open air Zocolo, filled with sound and colour and ringed with outdoor cafes.

We are a family of five and we had a good time. Every thing you need was available at the house. The staff was very attentative to our needs and made us feel at home and welcomed. Oaxaca is a great place to experience the hispanic culture. We were able to go to the food market and also experienced a religious procession during our stay. It was a great time away from home. Thank youRecommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks very much for your review. We love Oaxaca for its culture and history. There is always something interesting to see around each corner. We hope you and your family can return some day.

Thank you so much. We had a great time with our two daughters. A lot of space. Excellent condition. Kitchen and baths are practically new. A lot of attention to detail. Great taste in local arts and crafts. Rocio and Alejandra were very helpful and very kind. We had a great time. Oaxaca is wonderful. Great sights (pyramids more than 2000 years old, convents and churches from the XVI century....), great towns dedicated to rugs, pottery, alebrijes... Really enjoyed the people. Great food. Great weather. i would recommend renting a car. Thanks again!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at our house. We are continuing to make improvements to our new house and garden. Our goal is to make it the best rental in Oaxaca. We hope that you will be able to return to our casa and magical Oaxaca someday. Best Regards, June and Lockie

We were very please with our recent stay at Casa Lucia. The owners were wonderful to work with and the staff was excellent as well. We travelled with our three kids and grandparents. The seven of us had plenty of space at the house and it was wonderful to come back every day to a cozy home instead of being at a hotel. We had already recommended this property to friends who want to visit Oaxaca.Recommended for: Families with young children.

Happiness is Casa Lucia… we just got back from 9 days in Oaxaca and we could have not made a better decision than to stay at Casa Lucia. We were welcomed at the airport by property manager, who took us to our destination; along the way she gave us a quick overview of Oaxaca - places to visit and things to do -. Up on our arrival at “Casa Lucia” housekeeping staff was at home to coordinate with us the days we wanted her to come over for housekeeping (so we did) and the service was excellent. After a trip to the local market with the property manager we were on our own, we had total privacy.(WiFi, TV, and phone were offered at no extra cost) The house is lovely; the attention to detail reflects very good taste in decoration like original framed art, alebrijes and local zapoteca rugs. Amenities were very well thought. The kitchen is very, very nice so we always had breakfast and dinner there, for lunch we were always away. “Santo Domingo Etla” where the house is located and “San Agustin Etla” are about 25 minutes drive from Oaxaca yet very near happiness. To wake up with a beautiful mountains view and the singing of the birds was for us a joy. The pictures above tell it all regarding the house but they can not capture the peacefulness that we experienced and the heart openness of the locals. In my opinion it is better to rent a car so we did and drove to many places during our stay, the house has an ample parking space and huge very well kept garden. If you go to México consider Oaxaca and if you do, then consider Casa Lucia… I just don’t understand any other way of staying… my wife and I fell in love with the house and the whole experience so we are planning to come back. So please if you stay at Casa Lucia treat the house with the same love that it was put together and smile.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.

About the owner: We have travelled extensively in Mexico to purchase arts and crafts for our mexican store, Casa Lucia, in Canada. We have come to love the people with their patient helpful ways. There is always something interesting to look at in Mexico.
Why the Owner Chose Oaxaca:
We chose this location because it offers a friendly authentic mexican village just outside of a major colonial city. The weather in Oaxaca is known to be near perfect, cool evenings combined with warm days.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We love the clean air, the peaceful quiet evenings with a margarita on our patio, especially after a busy day in the city.
