- Minimum stay:Contact owner
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Our house, "Bear Arbor Lodge" is a roomy, casual Up-North home on the edge of Sleeping Bear National Park on one of the best streets in Glen Arbor. It's on a peaceful, wooded lot and seeing deer is a daily occurence. Yet, we are just a block or two from Lake Michigan, Boonedock's deck with its nightly summer music concerts, and everything else in Glen Arbor (shops, restaurants, tennis courts, baskeball court, playground, groceries, art, etc.).
There are four bedrooms and three bathrooms. The upper levels includes a master bedroom with a king-bed, a second bedroom with a queen bed, a third bedroom with two twin beds, and a bathroom with tub/shower. A second master with a queen bed, family room/den, laundry room, bath with tub/shower, and patio are on the lower level so there is plenty of privacy for two families. The main level features a living room with wood burning fireplace, galley kitchen, dining area that can accommodate 10 at the table, bath with shower, mud room, two decks and a screened in gazebo. The gazebo has electricity so it gets plenty of use late nights in the summer. The finished basement comes with a futon, pull-out couch, twin bed, and air hockey table.
There are three TVs (living room, family room/den, and upstairs master), DVD and VCR players, wireless internet, and a phone. The kitchen is fully-equpped with service for 12, electric stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, large pantry, etc. Linens and towels are provided. NO SMOKING and NO PETS.

This was our 3rd consecutive year enjoying Bear Arbor Lodge. Off the top of my head, I cannot think of anything more this home could offer. There is plenty of room for our group to be comfortable day and night…and to sit together at the large dining room table for evening dinners. The house offers 4 levels to spread out in, including front and rear decks that can serve as areas to sit and read, play games or just watch the deer that come through daily. The location couldn’t get any better. Walking to town is about a 5 minute stroll and the beach is only another 2 or 3. The home has always been well maintained and equipped with everything you could possibly need. The large BBQ gets plenty of use on the rear deck, the oversized garage is great for storing any toys and the landscaping completes the feel of being at your home away from home. Although it is close to all Glen Arbor has to offer, once you enter the driveway you are secluded from everything around it by mature forest. The property is bordered by National Forest and wildlife is abundant. When you stay here you will discover much more about the home (like the screened in gazebo off the rear deck furnished and powered) than I could write in this review. As far as things to do in the area we are busy nonstop. From kayaking down the Crystal River to hiking up Pyramid Point, the activities and sights to see are endless. My family and I hope to spend many more summers getting together and enjoying each other’s company in this ideal home and location.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: While we have roots in Michigan, we have lived in suburban Chicago for more than 30 years. I was born and raised in the Detroit area and went to school in the U.P. My husband's extended family is from Jackson/Ann Arbor, although he grew up in Kansas City he returned to MI for graduate school. We have two boys, now 22 and 18, who will tell you that in spite of some amazing opportunties to travel around the country and abroad, their best vacations were spent in Glen Arbor when they were kids. They have been coming every year since they were born-- summer and winter.
Why the Owner Chose Glen Arbor:
My parents retired here from the Detroit area in 1988 and we have been coming for vacations ever since. My brother and his family have also have a house here. We owned some vacant land on M-22 between Big Glen and Glen Arbor that we thought we might eventually build a home on. But, when this property came on the market, we sold the land and bought this house, practically sight unseen, because the location is so great. This is by far the best street in Glen Arbor! It is quiet and doesn't get much traffic at all; our house backs up to the national park and is so peaceful. We are not in a subdivision and don't see neighbors from either deck. Yet, we are a 10 minute walk to everything there is to do in Glen Arbor so when we want company, it is just minutes away.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our house is deceiving -- it is much bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside. It also has a couple distinct living spaces, so when we have a gang (kid's friends, cousins, or a few other couples) there are places where a large group can gather, there are places where you can go to slip away for some quiet time and there are places that adults can claim and places that become the kids' domain. The finished basement and screened in gazebo have made rainy days and a houseful of kids no problem. During the summer we spend most of our time outside -- at the beach, kayaking, golfing, bike riding, etc. In the winter, we sled, ski, snowboard, and snowshoe. Year-round, we hike, read, play cards (mostly Euchre), board games, watch TV and enjoy all the shops, restaurants, and art Glen Arbor has to offer. I love it when our vacation coincides with the Manitou Music Festival so we can catch a couple of concerts. Last summer, we had five 50+ year old women dancing on the deck at Midnight. (with no one watching)! Campfires at Glen Haven on a summer night after a long day at the beach are always a highlight. Star-gazing is amazing! And a walk on the trails that run through the woods adjacent to our house at the base of Alligator Hill is a great way to start the day. If we're feeling adventurous, we might even climb to the top!
