Great, secluded cabin

Great cabin! Very secluded in a wonderful valley. Fair warning, though, that if there is snow on the ground you will need a powerful 4-wheel drive to get up the final 50 meters to the house. Otherwise it was perfect for our family of 6, and the house manager was very helpful and easy to work with when we needed assistance.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

For Mother's Day, I wanted to visit Cloudcroft, NM. My husband and I booked Elk Run Cabin for a long weekend. The cabin is very appropriately named. We saw elk every evening across the road from the cabin. The house was immaculate. It had everything one might need. We hope to go back.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

My wife and I spend four sunny days and three starry nights at the Elk Run cabin. The cabin is tucked into a secluded hillside above Young Canyon Road. Every morning we sat drinking coffee and watching Elk graze in the high meadow on the other side of the road. The cabin is clean and spacious could easily accomodate 8 guests. During the day we spend our time hiking the Trestle trail, driving the scenic route to the National Solar Obsevatory and playing in the dunes at White Sands National Monument. During the night the sky is incredibley dark and the stars put on a show that will knock an urban dweller's socks off. We highly recommend this cabin, We will be back.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

This was an amazing cabin in a wonderful location! There was tons of wildlife to be seen from the comfort of the living room where you could enjoy the warmth of the fire. We saw elk several mornings, a coyote, lots of birds, and deer. We hiked around the property and enjoyed playing in the snow with the sleds the owner provides. The cabin had everything we needed in the kitchen and we cooked every night we were there. The owner even had some toys, colors, and games that our daughter enjoyed. If we ever go back to Cloudcroft we will be sure to book this cabin again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Had such a great time at the cabin. Although there was TV, we turned it on only once. We enjoyed the outdoors and Cloudcroft instead. The cabin accomidations were awesome too. We only needed to bring food of our liking. The property was very clean and in a hidden nich off of highway 82. Owner kept in touch prior to our stay. I highly recommend this cabin. It is gorgeous!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We had a great time relaxing and watching the hummingbirds and wildlife. The cool air was a treat for these Texans. Very private and beautiful location yet not far to the village. New comfortable cabin. Nice and lean.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners.

A spacious, clean and well-equipped cabin, we would gladly recommend this place to others. The owner was great to work with. He did everything he said he would, including provide special coffee sent from Tennessee. Our stay in his cabin offered a retreat from the Texas summer heat. We ate several times at Big Daddy's, a popular local restaurant. And the huevos rancheros at the Western Bar downtown are the best ever. Homemade pies baked fresh every day are sold at the grocery store in town, and the store's fresh pastries (cinnamon rolls, donuts, etc.) usually sell out by noon. Local shops attract visitors, especially on weekends. Only 16 miles to Alamogordo for groceries or whatever else needed, and from there 20–25 miles to White Sands where our grand-kids enjoyed sledding down the dunes on saucers. (The cabin owner provided the sleds for use.) Whether a hike to the old railroad trestle or drive to the National Solar Observatory at Sunspot, golf or dinner at The Lodge or drive to Ruidoso for the day, our family has enjoyed every vacation spent in Cloudcroft. Leaves me looking forward to a next time.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
