Marsh Harbour house description
Driftaway is a beautiful, tastefully furnished vacation home located at the end of Eastern Shores, a prestigious community on a mile-long point of land which runs east from Marsh Harbour, into the beautiful Sea of Abaco.
Driftaway is secluded and surrounded by clear turquoise water with views of numerous islands and yet is very handy to the amenities of town (approximately 2 miles). The property runs sea-to-sea with the Sea of Abaco on the north side. Driftaway also has its own protected deep-water 50 foot dock on the south side facing Sugar Loaf Channel.
The house is nestled within a tropical garden of colourful hibiscus, wild orchids, bromeliads, palms trees and winding stone paths.
Driftaway has two spacious master bedrooms (one with king size bed, one with queen), each with their own ensuite bathroom. Both bedrooms have large size closets/ceiling fans and a view of the Sea of Abaco. The bedrooms are separated by the large open airy great room which is equipped with a flat screen HDTV, stereo, CD and DVD.
The high vaulted ceilings and the orientation of the house to the cool gentle ocean breeze creates natural flow-through cooling. Every room is equipped with ceiling fans, including the 44 foot screened-in front porch and the sun porch off of the dining room. Three sets of double French doors open to beautiful views on three sides.
The kitchen is fully furnished, along with ice-maker, coffee grinder, microwave, blender and toaster oven. The dining room area has available seating for six.
Sun yourself on the large south facing deck furnished with lounges, patio table/chairs and a gas BBQ. There is also a pergola at one end when shade is needed. Two large pass- through windows from the kitchen serve the deck.
Relax on the muskoka chairs on the covered 44' front deck while enjoying the view of the Sea of Abaco.
You have a private sandy waterfront sitting area directly on the north side of the property. You can swim or snorkle by simply walking down six steps into the warm turquoise waters of the Sea of Abaco. You also have the availability of snorkeling at several locations within very short distances by boat or by car. Fowl Cay just south of Man-O-War and Mermaid Reef are two of many reef areas for your enjoyment.
Marsh Harbour has many restaurants to choose from (2-3 miles approximately from Driftaway) that you can get to by rental car or by taxi. You can also rent a boat to visit the local islands for lunch or exploring. Hope Town, Guana and Man of War are a few of the many small islands that can be reached by your own rental boat or by ferry which is conveniently located two minutes away from the house by car or a ten-fifteen minute walk. Enjoy lunch at Nipper’s on Guana and enjoy their beautiful beach and excellent snorkelling.

A Wonderful Place!
A Wonderful Place!
We arrived in the early afternoon and found the house open and welcoming. The first words out of both our mouths was "Wow!". Sugar Loaf channel to the south and the Sea of Abaco to the north, with great views of each and a nice breeze blowing through the house. The deck that first night was spectacular, with the full June "super moon" shining above us. The location afforded nice privacy yet it was only a few minutes by car to town for shopping or eating out. The ferry dock is only a 20 minute walk (it's hard to get a parking spot there Monday-Friday, as we discovered) which gave us the opportunity to take a 25 minute ferry ride to Hopetown (a "must see") where we spent a day and had a great lunch at Captain Jack's. In the afternoons, we really enjoyed ourselves at the private beach, swimming and snorkeling, then coming back in the early evening to watch some beautiful sunsets. The owners provided everything to make this vacation one of our best ever! The nice home and beautiful landscaping; the pre-trip email and the "Driftaway House Book" containing all the information, maps and recommendations we needed; the boat dock where you can rent and have your own boat to get around; the gas grill on the deck for your own cookouts; a nice library of books for vacation reading; and very comfortable eating, living and sleeping accommodations, all made for a very stress-free and relaxing time (did I mention the private beach?). We are already looking forward to our next opportunity to visit Driftaway!

DRIFTAWAY - LOVED IT!!! HAD A GREAT TIME!!!
DRIFTAWAY - LOVED IT!!! HAD A GREAT TIME!!!
We had the good fortune of spending 7 days at Driftaway. We had a wonderful and a most relaxing stay. The accommodations were excellent. The house provided a spacious and comfortable setting in which to relax. The view cannot be put into words; it is so fantastic! The covered front porch and outdoor eating area are wonderful. We enjoyed many meals on the front veranda with a magnificent view of the Sea of Abaco. We sat for many many hours talking, eating, reading, and drinking wine.... Very nice, relaxing vacation (I finished 2 books!). We felt very comfortable in the home, slept well in the beds and much enjoyed the decor. Driftaway exceeded our expectations. Yes, the pictures on line are beautiful...but they really don't do justice to the outstanding view of the Sea of Abaco. The view continued to amaze us each of the days we were there. The house is very well appointed and has everything you would need. We cooked quite a bit and found whatever we were looking for in the spacious kitchen. There was always plenty of seating for the four of us, whether eating, snacking, watching TV, or out on the front and/or back porch enjoying the view. The furniture was also very comfy and inviting. Our party used both bedrooms and both were quite comfortable. The bedrooms had plenty of storage to unpack and hang clothes in the closets or put into the dressers. The home is kept very clean and we found everything we needed in the kitchen. It was also a real plus to have a washer/dryer which enabled us to take fewer clothes. We were especially impressed with the owners who 100% went the extra mile to make sure our stay was enjoyable. Bob and Linda were wonderful...from the very first email. They answered any questions we had and were very helpful and provided us with many recommendations on what to do during our visit. They have put together a very informative book with things to do on the island which we also found very helpful. They seem to have thought of everything. Our hats off to Judy the housekeeper who checked in with us several times to make certain that we had everything we needed. She is a true gem. The charm of this cottage will bring us back next year. We would definitely recommend Driftaway to anyone visiting the Abacos. Thank you very much Bob and Linda. Richard and Anna Bob and Rita

REVIEW TAKEN FROM THE DRIFTAWAY GUESTBOOK Bob and Linda, Thanks for sharing your beautiful home! This was our first trip to Abaco and we loved it! Driftaway is the perfect location to either stay here and lounge around or go out and explore the surrounding islands. We had a chance to visit Treasure Cay, Guana Cay and Hopetown. Some of the most incredible beaches we have ever seen. We look forward to a return visit!

REVIEW TAKEN FROM THE DRIFTAWAY GUESTBOOK Driftaway has provided a comfortable, peaceful setting for escaping our sometimes harsh New England winter, although they have been mostly milder in recent years. On our last trip to Marsh Harbour we chartered from the Moorings, so we have some familiarity with the area. This time our explorations have been by car and the inter island ferries, having Driftaway as a perfect base of operation and home base to return to each day. How could anyone not enjoy themselves here with the cornucopia of books to read, music, ocean views and hues, all available at any time. Our favourite restaurant in town is The Jib Room, but Pete's Pub and Gallery at Little Harbour are not to be missed. A word about your garden (from J): Years ago I took the Master Gardeners Course in Lee County, Florida (Fort Myers) and gained a great respect for the art of gardening with native plants - bromeliads, ferns, palms, etc. Your garden looks as if it "just happened". That is said a big compliment - I know the skill and work to make it as it is. The beauty of the landscape complement the style and comfort of your home. Many thanks!

Great Vacation!Guest comment entered by owner
REVIEW TAKEN FROM THE DRIFTAWAY GUESTBOOK Dear Bob and Linda, We arrived after dark. Had a great 3 weeks in this awesome place. Judy, the housekeeper is a god send, doing cleaning weekly so that we didn't have to worry about it. Very friendly and personable. Weather was great! Cool first day and last day of our holiday but warm ++++ in between. Enjoyed Junkanoo New Year's Day on Green Turtle Cay. Tried to do the restaurants at least once for lunch but mostly cooked 'at home'. Maxwells is the best grocery store so far in Bahamas. Beats Nassau hands down. Hopefully we can wangle another trip here next year.

REVIEW TAKEN FROM THE DRIFTAWAY GUESTBOOK Bob and Linda, We thoroughly enjoyed spending Christmas at the Abacos. Christmas morning we woke up to a sea of glass; my dad said that was the best present he could have had. We rented a boat from Water Ways and spent the entire week touring the surrounding islands from Little Harbour to Green Turtle Cay. I can't thank you enough for the opportunity We had a great house, a great boat and most of all plenty of family time. Thank y'all. We really appreciate it. A week went by too fast. Thank you again for your great home. What a perfect location.

DRIFTAWAY - Vacation was awesome!
EMAIL RECEIVED FROM DRIFTAWAY GUEST Bob and Linda, We had a fantastic time in the Abacos last week! Your house and property was just beautiful, we absolutely loved it! Everything went great and we had no issues, thank goodness. The people on that island are very nice and very polite too. We will be back there one day and we wish we could come back more often! The boat we borrowed from a friend was perfect at your dock. That was a real blessing too. It was nice waking up in the morning, putting on a bathing suit, hopping into the boat and deciding what other Island to go visit and what we were going to do. Thank you so much for everything; it was fantastic! We will be in touch again one day.

SECLUDED, SERENE, AND BEAUTIFUL
SECLUDED, SERENE, AND BEAUTIFUL
My family (four adults) found Driftaway to be a secluded, serine, beautiful sanctuary in paradise. The house was very clean (equipped with all the necessities), and the Sea of Abaco outside the front door was absolutely irresistible. The surroundings were so perfect, that we became reluctant to leave the house for our day trips. Mostly we were content to buy food from the nearby grocery store, cook at home, and eat on the ample front sun porch. To anyone contemplating a Bahamas vacation, I promise you that you will NOT be sorry you spent time Driftaway. Borrowing a line from Douglas MacArthur, "I shall return", or in our case "We shall return"!

Owner response: Tony and Julia, We are so happy to share our home 'Driftaway' along with the beautiful ocean view with such wonderful people! We look forward to seeing you again in the future! Warmest regards, Bob and Linda
Thank you Bob and Linda for making our stay at Driftaway such a great experience! We felt welcomed as soon as we opened the door. It was like coming home. We have stayed at Driftaway before and you have maintained the same high standards. Everything needed to plan excursions, tourist sites, beaches, marinas, etc. was available in the binder. We seemed to gravitate towards preparing our own meals and used the barbecue on a daily basis. Everything was there that we needed, beach towels to beach chairs and the beautiful front sun porch where we ate many of our meals. You really only need your clothes and swimsuit as everything else is there. The location of this house is perfect, in a very quiet, very secluded area. The food store is very close by. The small private sandy beach is right outside the front door. What could be better than spending the day at the beach? Barbecuing supper and sleeping in the king-sized bed! Wow! As one of our friends said, "Another day in paradise". Bob and Linda are easy to get hold of if necessary and also called us to see how things were going and if there was anything we needed. Not all owners make themselves this available and show how they wish to make a stay in their home the best experience possible. We would highly recommend Driftaway as it is well maintained, clean and is exactly what the photos show. We will be back again to visit this little piece of paradise.

ANOTHER WONDERFUL STAY AT DRIFTAWAY!
POSTED REVIEW FROM THE DRIFTAWAY GUEST BOOK. We have had another wonderful stay here at Driftaway! -- No rain for several days gave us plenty of time to go "island hopping", and the Cheeseburger in Paradise party on Fiddle Cay was the best we have ever attended. We connected with several old friends and made many new ones as well. We are already looking forward to our next visit to the Abacos!
