Located at the heart of a 98-acre forest property of France's South West area of the Landes, the Domaine de Mondotte castle offers a bite of Gascogne history with all modern amenities and comfort. Built in the early 1800s, this former hunting lodge provides breathtaking scenery and unmatched privacy on a peaceful setting.
The perfect gathering point of 8-10 of your family members or friends, the 5,300+sf unique home features a 245 sf living room with hardwood floors, wood-burning fireplace and baby grand piano, opening to the 200+sf dining room, with fireplace and table sitting 14.
Anchored by a majestic wood-burning fireplace, apparent wood ceiling beams and posts, the grand salon is a wonderful place to relax and recoup from the outdoor fun. The nearby library conveniently doubles as TV room.
With 6-burner gas range, electric oven, microwave oven, lots of countertop space and double sink, the 100+ sf, eat-in kitchen awaits your inner chef and all sous-chefs!
The themed sleeping quartes offer many possibilities, from the ground floor suite with French doors opening to the patio to the bedroom nested all the way up the Pigeonnier (Pidgeon's nest.)
Outside, the salted-water pool, lined with lounging chairs, also offers shade below the mature trees. The nearby play structure with swing and sandbox, and ping-pong table under the open barn are perfect for the more active guest.
Nearby activities include the Albret 18-hole golf course (accessible through a quick stroll in the forest,) Lou Cabriou equestrian center and Cap Cauderoue site (offering freestyle race, paint ball, mountain biking, shooting range, archery, canoeing and horse riding.)
Day trips to historical sites, wine properties, the ocean, the cities of Bordeaux and Toulouse.
The day of your arrival, we will prepare a welcoming meal, homemade with local and freshest ingredients.

We had a wonderful stay at Mondotte castle. It is an amazing property, really clean and uptodate, but with tons of delightful historical details. The owners are so sweet and welcoming ! They gave us lots of insight about the area and were very helpful in organizing our visits of the region. They know a lot of people in the area and we got a taste of real life in Gascogne. Cooking is delicious. French food. Traditionnal. Yummy ! Area is great, from touristic/historic day trips to nature and sports not to forget delightful wine and Armagnac, not far. We would definitely recommend Mondotte castle as a perfect family vacation getaway.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.
