  We have stayed at many different rental properties in the Gulf Shores/Ft. Morgan area over the years, both condos and homes. Mermaid's Lair is by far the nicest property we have ever stayed at. Most beach rental homes are not that nicely decorated or furnished, and oftentimes, the kitchen doesn't have many accessories. Not Mermaid's Lair. Mermaid's Lair is truly decorated, and nicely at that. The kitchen is amazingly stocked with everything, and I mean everything, you could ever need. We got crab legs to go from a Gulf Shores restaurant one night, and there we even claw cracking tools there to use! All of the kitchenware is very nice. The beds are all very comfortable, especially the master bed. Everything was spotless upon arrival. The master bath is very roomy with a huge shower. The master and one other bedroom have sliding glass doors on the Gulf side that go out onto the deck, so you can sit right outside your room and listen to the Gulf. Being on the lagoon is really nice. We had three young boys ages 7-11 with us and they had way too much fun playing in the lagoon, which even at the end of the dock is only about 3 feet deep. The walk to the beach across the road is only about 5 minutes tops. There are plenty of beach chairs down at the lagoon in the back yard for relaxing there. The back porch is wonderful, with several rocking chairs and gliders as well. Overall, this was an excellent property that we would highly recommend. The owner was very nice to work with, and we plan on returning to Mermaid's Lair for future stays.

  Our stay at Mermaid's Lair couldn't have been any better! The house is fabulous! VERY well decorated, very spacious, clean & exactly what you think of when you think of a beach house. We all fell in love with it & said we wouldn't mind living their permanently! It is amazing house! It was adorable in the pictures, but even better in person! I could go on & on about it! We just kept talking about all of the unique decor in the home & joked that we might lose our deposit because we just might take some decor with us when we left! We enjoyed the well stocked kitchen. We cooked breakfast there & had lunch there daily & cooked dinner there twice, so it was nice to have everything there that we needed such as a zester, food processor & any other kitchen items you might need! The mother of the other family with us, who goes to the beach quite often, said it was definitely the best stocked kitchen in any place that she had ever stayed! Also, the location couldn't have been better as far as convenient for restaurants, retail, etc.! And, it was so convenient to the beach! Just a walk across the street & you were right there on the public beach. I also enjoyed the private beach out back of the house! I was usually the first one up every morning to go run & when I got back to the house I would head out back to lay out & wait for everybody else to get up.It was so nice & peaceful & the lagoon was beautiful! The boys - both the teenagers & the 4 year old - really, really enjoyed the pier! And, actually spent more time out their fishing and crabbing than on the beach! It was so nice to have that for them! We had no problem at all with getting our deposit back.We left the house on Saturday & Sunday night the homeowner emailed me with details of getting our deposit back to me. I just can't tell you how much we enjoyed the stay & the house! We all said we hope to be able to come again next year & we definitely want the house again! Also, the other mother with us said that she takes a family girls trip every year & would hopes to be able to come back & rent the home for that as well. I also plan to recommend it to any friends that are looking & anytime I am able to make it back there, I hope to be able to stay there. Thank you so much for providing such a beautiful, comfortable, warm & welcoming home for people to rent. There are just not enough words to express how much we enjoyed your home! I am already looking forward to my next stay at Mermaid's Lair!

  Mermaids lair is a lovely property and we enjoyed our stay. However, the owner refused to return our deposit. She said she had to repaint and recover furniture. We have rented houses many times and are good tenents, leaving a clean house when we depart. I will never rent from her again. Beware!

  Owner response: We feel that Mermaids Lair is a special place that we hope holds special memories for all who rent our home. We regret this happened but due to expenses incurred for repairs and additional cleaning, we had no other choice in this matter. Owners Mermaids Lair

  Mermaid's Lair was perfect for our family. My three little boys were entertained constantly with fishing, crab-trapping, swimming, playing in the sand, or finding critters with their nets. The private beach area allowed them to be on the dock or in the water without me being nervous. There are gulls, pelicans, and heron close-by. There are numerous shaded sitting areas, and it's so quiet and peaceful that relaxing is easy. The house is awesome with its colorful, beachy decor yet comfy feel. Location is great too, with restaurants, souvenir shops, and grocery stores near by. I can't think of anything negative except that vacation ended too soon.
