Seward house description
Cottonwood Corner is two acres of beautiful natural and cultivated gardens Our guest house is located on the sunny side where we grow most of our vegetables and herbs amongst beds of native and perennial plants. Our home is a short walk through a natural aviary that attracts several species of birds year round. Our guests can relax on a bench in one of the quiet pocket gardens and enjoy our many resident birds taking advantage of the feeders located throughout the gardens.
The Guest House is a three bedroom, 1.5+bath home located in a rural neighborhood just outside of the Seward city limits. It is a 5 minute drive or twenty minute bike ride to the center of town.
The living room, dining room, kitchen, one bedroom (queen) and a bath with a shower is located on the 1st floor. The second floor has two bedrooms (1queen, 1 king) with a full bath between.
The kitchen is fully equipped and will be stocked with coffee, assorted teas and condiments. We will provide a free continental breakfast for the morning of the 1st day of your stay!
A front deck invites guests to enjoy Alaska's splendor with views of Tiehacker Mountain and the great northwestern forest, as well as the cultivated grounds and gardens that surround the house.
A gas grill is available for your cooking pleasure.
Cottonwood Corner will be cleaned between guests. All linens will be exchanged (includes mattress covers, pillow covers, blankets, & quilts) as the house is prepared for your arrival .
No housekeeping services will be provided during your stay. We will provide extra linens for guests staying more than three days.
While we hope that you will be able to take advantage of the wonderful fishing Seward has to offer, we do not allow fish cleaning at Cottonwood Corner. We can recommend a full service processor in town (packaging & mailing).
Here at Cottonwood Corner, we like to balance privacy with hospitality. We will assure your stay is comfortable and will be available to chat and tell an Alaskan story or two.

Perfect in every way
Perfect in every way
We had a beautiful stay, the house is impeccably clean and spacious. We had two families of four and were perfectly comfortable. The owners were so kind and thoughtful, and she made us feel welcome and the extra touches of fresh half n half in the fridge and granola and yoghurt for breakfast made the entire stay that much more special. I have never written a review, but we had such a nice time I just had to say thank you. Alaska is an unbelievable place. The Cottonwood House is a home away from home.

We had a great time
Everything was very nice and were able to cook our own meals there in the kitchen and the barbecue outside. The house was roomy even though we had 8 people and it was nice to be able to pick fresh vegetables from the garden every night. The owners are very nice people who have thought of everything.

I have used VRBO for years and this is by far the best place I have stayed.. It was not so much the home, although it was perfect, is was the owners, Kate and Craig. From the welcome basket, to the things in the refrigerator to wonderful Tillie the Dog.. Talk about feeling at home !! I highly recommend this place to anyone planning to stay in Seward.. Do it if for nothing more to meet the owners and enjoy their fresh garden vegetables outside the front door!

Warm, comfortable cabin near Seward
Warm, comfortable cabin near Seward
We visited Seward at the end of June and stayed at Cottonwood Corner. Our group of 3 couples (all in our 60's) arrived late. We were pleasantly surprised to find the cabin sparkling clean and comfortable and smoked salmon spread & crackers waiting for us. Kate is a wonderful hostess. She provided a welcome basket with bagels, fresh fruit, granola, coffee, cream & sugar. We were all set for breakfast for a couple of days. The cabin feels very homey and was spacious enough for the 6 of us. The large deck leads to the yard with a fire pit and beautiful flowers and vegetables. The cabin is located outside of the town so you will need a car to get around. Everyone in our group enjoyed the stay. Kate, I'm glad we got to meet you. Thanks for everything.

Cottonwood Corners exceeded our expectations, which were pretty high, based on the excellent reviews! We are 3 couples (siblings and spouses) traveling together and the complimentary first morning breakfast was delicious and was actually enough for both of our mornings there. This home is immaculate and every possible detail has been attended to by Kate and Craig. We were very close to Exit Glacier and just a short drive to Seward. Would definitely stay here again! Thank You!!

Our party of 6 booked Cottonwood Corner instead of one of the local hotels. It was the best decision we made. It was very easy to get to and very convenient to both downtown Seward and the Exit Glacier. The owners, Kate and Craig, were awesome and very accommodating. The house is very spacious and unlike most guest houses, the beds were very soft and comfortable. I can't close this review without mentioning Tilly, the dog. We had so much fun with her. If and when I return to Seward, Cottonwood Corner will be my first choice.

Cottonwood Corner was a delightful property to stay at. Everything appeared clean and well maintained. The beds were warm and comfortable, there were plenty of towels, the kitchen was well supplied with crockery, glassware etc. Heating was excellent. There was heaps of snow around during our stay so we did not get to enjoy the gardens. The owners live close by and were very helpful. As Cottonwood Corner is not right in Seward a car would be useful as it is a long walk into town. We would recommend this property to everyone and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

This cottage is everything we wanted and needed it to be. Well stocked ktichen, comfy beds, pillows, blankets, beautiful location and amazing owners who live next door with thier black lab Tillie. She is a hoot! Kate and Craig are there when you need them to be but never instrusive. Very helpful with ideas too. The cottage is in immaculate condition. There are birds everywhere. Craig made sure to fill the feeders and hung 2 hummingbird feeders for us by the window. We had "guests" everyday. The street has lots of great, friendly dogs who greet you if you want. We missed our beagles and were satisfied with these dogs and Tillie. She wants to play ball ALL THE TIME, so beware! Kate had stocked the fridge for us and left a basket of goodies and it lasted all week. Such kind people. We highly recommend this cottage.

About the owner: In 1985 Craig joined his father, Jack , on a trip to Alaska to visit the past. During World War II, while serving in the United State Army, Jack had been stationed at Fort McGilvary on Caines Head located at the mouth of Resurrection Bay. He was anxious to share his memories of that time with his oldest son. Caines Head is now part of the Alaska State Park System and is accessible by boat. Maintained trails allow visitors to explore what is left of the old army fort. Jack traveled a second time to Seward, this time with our whole family...what a trip! Our dream was born and 1990 found us selling our Southern California home, packing all of our belongings in a U-Haul truck and setting out for the Last Frontier. Three years later, Jack joined us and together we built the cabin that is now Cottonwood Corner Guest House. We have lived in Seward for 23 years and are still in awe of the pristine beauty that surrounds us. We want to share it with you.
Why the Owner Chose Seward:
Cottonwood Corner Guest House is located in a quiet rural neighborhood. Our grounds are beautiful and we enjoy spending time outside. There are also special little treasures that can be found just taking a walk around the block. The Guest House is a short walk from Salmon Creek, a salmon spawning creek; a walk up the hill leads you to some of the best blueberry pickings in town; exploring the meadow nearby you will find bog rosemary, Alaska violets, sundews (Alaska's carnivorous plants), and so much more. The forest is full of wonder. Wild animals do roam through the neighborhood, so we ask that you always stay aware. Our location is a birder's paradise. Right outside your window you will be treated to a view of our resident chickadees, nuthatches, woodpeckers, pine grosbeaks, juncos, siskins, and more! Craig and I have enjoyed feeding the birds and gardening for many years. We have lovely perennial beds and include many native species amongst our cultivars. We also plant vegetables and herbs in the raised beds outside the Guest House. Our summer is short, but our days are long and the garden beds fill in quickly.
