Together with my partner, her sis and partner we stayed 4 nights and the location is unmatched. As nature lovers we enjoyed a 360 degree view of the nature preserve seeing dozens of bird species. On one morning 400-500 birds fed at low tide not 50 yards from the house. It was like viewing an audubon documentary. Families of grebes and single loons off the front lakeside all day every day and a harrier hawk with a permanent perch 100 yds away. Seafood fresh everywhere: crawfish, crab, shrimp and catfish! And do NOT miss Rips on the Lake in Mandeville for at least lunch with a crab and brie bisque soup the likes of which are exceeded by no one anywhere and I'm a demanding and serious food critic. The owner, Connie, is congenial and kind and if remote and wilderness marsh is your taste, you will never find a better location. Owner response: So glad to hear our guests from Wisconsin enjoyed their stay. James is not only a food critic but one awesome chef himself. Best babyback ribs I EVER tasted.

Had a very pleasant, relaxing four night stay with family. The setting couldn't have been more beautiful. Watching the sunrise while having coffee sitting on the enclosed back room of the house was spectacular. We had our boat, we fished, we crabbed, we shopped. Didn't realize how much there was to do so close by. Kayaking and bike riding. The accommodations were perfect, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our thanks to Connie for all her kindness.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Really enjoyed meeting this wonderful family! So glad they enjoyed their stay. Looking forward too seeing them again.

We have stayed at several VRBO homes and this one is on the top of the list. The sunrises & sunsets are beautiful unobstructed views. We fished, put out crab traps, had family visitors & relaxed. The house was spotless clean & had everything that we needed. Bring OFF for the night time mosquitoes. I am sure that we will be back again.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: It was a pleasure to meet our guests from Nevada. Such a nice couple! Looking forward to seeing them again.

We originally booked mainly due to proximity - my wife's uncle has a camp just down the road and we needed more beds for a family reunion - but will consider again just for the location and relaxation. We really enjoyed the fact that it is secluded (gave directions to other family members along the lines of "just when you think you missed it, go another couple miles." The place was big, cool, and the kitchen was well-appointed for meals. It was fun to see all the people crabbing and fishing along the road and to just wander down the road ourselves. We would highly recommend this rental home. As a plus, one of the best restaurants I have ever been to is in Lacombe, Sal and Judy's. It had been almost 20 years since I last ate there (in the old pink gas station at the time) but the food was just what I remembered.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, sightseeing.

We could not have asked for a better vacation spot! Our boys played the World Series in Mandeville; so relaxation was key. The home was clean and well stocked. Mrs. Connie, her son, and grandson went out of there way to make our stay a fun one.... my kids were thrilled to find crabs in their traps with baiting tricks and tips. The sunrise was beautiful to watch in the sunroom and the sunset was just as beautiful while crabbing the bayou. My family is already planning our next stay at Glockners Paradise!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Our world series baseball family was a pleasure to have as guests. So very thoughtful and kind. It is our desire that children and adults can enjoy the great outdoors together and make memories for years to come!

Our party of three thoroughly enjoyed our six day stay during Jazzfest 2012! Our host, Connie spoiled us with her warm hospitality!. The location within a wildlife preserve is truly unique.with abundant outdoor activities beckoning! It is an easy drive to New Orleans, yet very private, with spectacular views, waterfront and pleasantly isolated. We would not hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend to all, particularly nature lovers and sports enthusiasts.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, pet owners, girls getaway, sightseeing.

About the owner: Glockner's Homeport has been home to commercial fishers Cliff & Connie Glockner for most of their lives. They earned their living and raised their family here on the banks of Bayou Lacombe. Recognizing the importance of outdoor life and the ecosystem that make it enjoyable, they were instrumental in the Save Our Lake movement to clean up Lake Pontchartrain, and were awarded the National Wetlands Award for their efforts. With St. Tammany being the fastest growing parish in the country, they realized that something had to be done to preserve some of our natural ecosystems for future generations. They initiated the movement to form the Big Branch National Wildlife Refuge and drew together a diverse coalition to make it a reality.
