Charming Cabin on Long Lake; Near Golf Course, Ski & Atv Trails

This 3 BR, 2 bath cabin is beautifully decorated with all the comforts of home. It is handicap accessible (with limitations). The cabin is located on LONG LAKE, which is a 3,300 acre lake (the largest in Washburn County) known as the 'Walleye Capital of Wisconsin'. It is also known for its bass and pan fish. The lake feels very private as the Boy Scouts own about 10 miles of shoreline that is undeveloped, yet there are marinas and many restaurants along the developed side of the lake. One of our favorite activities is taking a leisurely boat ride down to one of the restaurants for lunch or supper. The lake is 18 miles long with 99 miles of shoreline, so it could take several days to explore it all!
This cabin is located on the large north bay of Long Lake which is great for water skiing, tubing and fishing. Or you can always head south and enjoy the scenery of the Boy Scouts land and the many good fishing areas, or stop by the sand bar for a game of volleyball.
Our cabin is one of 5 cabins in a private association called Whispering Pines. The nearly 2 acres of grounds are extremely well maintained and the property has over 180 feet of beautful shoreline with a nice gravel bottom swimming area. The grounds and shoreline are shared with the 4 other cabins, but this is the only cabin within the group that is available for rent, so it may be very quiet during your rental week. You enjoy all the amenities at Whispering Pines, including a fish-cleaning house with running water and a refrigerator for your bait. There's a basketball hoop for shooting baskets, horse shoe pits, a campfire ring overlooking the lake, and a wonderful shoreline deck that's perfect for early morning coffee or for watching the kids swim. There is a large guest dock that you may use to moor your boat.
You will enjoy seeing a variety of wildlife; eagles, osprey and loons are common on the lake. Try and spot the eagles nest on waters edge just south of this property. There is a county forest located across the road with hiking, skiing and ATV trails along with some 'undiscovered' lakes stocked with trout. A bait shop (and much more) is located just down the road, and Butternut Hills Golf Course is only 3 miles away. The town of Stone Lake is 6 miles east of the cabin with shops, restaurants, Wi-Fi connections, wine shop, Co-op grocery store and Pine Knoll Country store. The conveniences found in HAYWARD, SPOONER, AND RICE LAKE, are all less than 30 minutes away by car.
This cabin has been tastefully remodeled for your full enjoyment. The master bedroom has a king bed, it's own bath and satellite TV. One guest room has a queen bed and the other has two twin beds. The cabin has a large kitchen adjoining a very nice family room with large TV and full entertainment center. A washer and dryer are tucked into a corner of the kitchen.
Enjoy the lake and the many area activities and then relax back at the cabin with all the amenities you enjoy at home.

We really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was very clean and well equipped. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were stocked with nice towels, soaps and shampoos. The kitchen had everything you would need for cooking. The pictures and information provided were very accurate. We enjoyed the mornings by the lake watching the loons and eagle. The evenings were spent by the lake enjoying bonfires. We even saw a black bear up the road from the property. We had a very relaxing and peaceful vacation. The owner was wonderful to work with and very attentive to our needs.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers.

My husband & I so enjoyed our stay! The cabin was just as described, no, even nicer! So clean, cozy, and really a great size for the price. I loved the decor, and how well it was furnished with all our needs. The deck by the lake was so nice. With plenty of parking, it was just what we had hoped it would be. I would recommend to anyone looking for a great vacation rental. The owners do a great job explaining what the rules are, even recommended fabulous places to eat. Their attention to detail was obvious. I found myself wishing I could stay much longer-like every summer! I have stayed at some real basis rentals, this one scores at the top. A 15 on a scale of 10!!!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

The cabin was VERY nice. It was clean, stocked with essentials and very cozy. The only drawback is the distance from the water and fire pit. We couldn't leave our kids after going to bed to sit on the porch overlooking the lake or sit by the fire because it is too far away. We had a great week. No one was in the other cabins all week until Friday night so we lucked out. I'm not sure I would have liked it as much if there were people in all other cabins and I had to share the fire pit and yard with everyone else. The cabin is very close to the road and it gets busy in the mornings so that is also a drawback. Nonetheless, we had a fantastic week and we're happy we stayed here.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children.

The owners gave very accurate directions to their cabin and the pictures accurately reflected their cabin and surroundings, but we were disappointed to see other cabins in front of this rental which did not give us a a good view of the lake. There was a nice deck right down by the water though so we were still able to enjoy spending time next to the lake. There was a nice dock for our boat and also a boathouse to store our boating things in which made it convenient when going out boating and fishing. The owners were very accommodating and and gave us ideas of eating places on the lake, activities in the area and all the cabin furnishings were provided except beach towels and food. The cabin was decorated beautifully and a TV was in each bedroom and family room with many movies, games, puzzles and books available for our use. We ate at Props and Greeners right on the lake and would recommend them to others. We also enjoyed grilling and eating our meals at the cabin. Outdoor activities provided were basketball, bocce ball, croquet, horseshoes, campfire ring, hiking paths and swimming. The grounds were clean and well maintained and the walk to and from the lake were good exercise for us. Our granddaughters enjoyed fishing from the dock catching pan fish. I would recommend this rental to anyone. It is beautiful and is certainly a "labor of love" for the owners, one they should be proud to rent.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers.
Owner response: As a traveler, we would ask you to please read through the VRBO descriptions we have provided; we are very straight forward about the view, location, and amenities of the cabin. We want our guests to be as happy at our cabin as we are, when we're there. An advantage of our property, compared to many others on Long Lake, is that we have a very gentle slope to the lake, and less than 20 steps to reach the water, and while the cabin sits back a ways, we have a fabulous deck right on the shoreline that provides spectacular views of the lake. Long Lake is a very deep lake, and most properties sit extremely high with several dozen stairs required to reach the lake.

We stayed here the last weekend in July and enjoyed every minute of relaxation. The cabin was spotless and beautifully decorated. We felt so at home which made it so easy to relax and enjoy our time. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we could need, the large living room was perfect for our family of 5. The kids spent countless hours just sitting at the table playing cards (they would never do that at home) and pulled out lots of the board games at night to wind down before going to bed. My husband and kids spent hours just sitting on the dock with fishing poles. My 7-year old daughter fished for the first time and caught lots of little fish-- even a little large mouth bass! We rented a boat one day so we could check out the entire lake. That was well worth it- it is a huge, pretty lake. Surprisingly, the lake wasn't very busy so we could stop and swim and putter around at our own pace. That was a great day. Our last night there, we even saw a black bear just across the deck from the cabin! A little scary (the kids were out running around when I spotted him), but kind of cool too! Quite a few of the other cabin owners were around while we were there- all very nice and helpful. They showed us around and made us feel welcome. The only thing we would change would be to move the cabin closer to the lake so we could sit on the cabin deck and watch the kids swim/fish. Sherry and Vern have put lots of love into this cabin and it was a perfect, comfortable place to be. Every comfort of home. We got to meet Sherry on the morning we checked out. She was lovely and very gracious about the fact that we thought it was an 11:00 check out instead of 10:00. She patiently waited for us to pack our stuff up and move out!! Oops!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers.

We brought together three generations for a memorable four night visit at this special cabin. Sherry and Vern were fantastic to work with and went out of their way to make everything just right for us; from putting in an AC unit for us when the weather was very hot, to giving us a very special tour around the cabin area and the lake to start things off, and to providing an immaculate and roomy place to stay in a beautiful setting. Although the cabin is not directly on the lake it is just a very short stroll to get there, with a wonderful deck to relax and start off your morning with a cup of joe and the company of a family of loons. Long Lake is very large, has great fishing and plenty of very nice restaurants and sources of recreation nearby. The area the cabin in was very quiet and peaceful during our weekday stay. The cabin is wonderful and everything updated and comfortable - we enjoyed a bar-b-que on the deck, playing dvd's when it was raining, having a fire at night down by the lake, and swimming in the warm waters. We would all highly recommend this property!Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers.

The cabin was spotless - exceptionally clean and well cared for - obviously well loved! The accomdations were comfortable and everything was provided that we could need or think to ask for. The owner provided helpful information and suggestions and maintained contact before and during our stay. While visiting the area we floated down the Namekogan River on inner tubes and went swimming in nearby lakes. Long Lake is primarily a fishing lake and while we did get in the water, the weeds and mucky bottom made us "city folk" uncomfortable. We did enjoy fishing off the dock - even caught a bass. We also were surprised by a brown bear in the yard! Nearby Spooner bakery provided all the goodies, with local restaurants and grocery stores keeping us stocked with the basics. A wonderful stay - we definiely recommend this cabin to all visiting the area.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.

About the owner: Both my husband and I have lived in Wisconsin most of our lives. We currently live about 80 miles away from our beloved Long Lake, but close enough should any service issues arise during your stay.
Why the Owner Chose Long Lake:
We started enjoying Wisconsin's lovely northwoods as a young couple with small children. At first, we camped with a tent, then upgraded to a tent trailer, then a larger camper, and then a 5th wheel camper, complete with slide outs. After 15 years of camping on and around beautiful Long Lake, we knew it was the place for us. Long Lake is one of the most spectacular lakes in Northwest Wisconsin, with crystal clear water and just the right combination of wilderness and development. We bought our cabin here, because we wanted to enjoy the lake year round.
