Mountain Biking Capital of the Midwest! Over 300 miles of mapped and marked trails in the Cable Area. (CAMBA), the system is divided into six clusters, each with one or more trailheads. The system stretches from Hayward to Iron River, making the Cable Area the hub of one of Wisconsin's best mountain biking destinations. One of the Midwest's most popular because of their variety, scenic beauty and 'impossible to get lost' signage. The routes follow a variety of paths, including logging roads, fire lanes, snowmobile trails, ski trails and single track. The terrain lends itself to riders of all abilities, from beginners to seasoned fat tire experts.
The Cable Area boasts one of the largest cross country ski trail networks in the county, the American Birkebeiner Trail-with 150 kilometers of interconnected trails you can ski for days. The woods take on a special beauty in the winter and there's no better way to experience it than on cross country skis. Recently cited by CNN.com as on of the top 5 places to hit the horizontal slopes.
Wisconsin ranks 2nd nationally in fishing popularity and that doesn't change when winter seals the lakes under ice!

Our family of 5 adults and baby had a delightful experience vacationing at this cottage. We enjoyed the peaceful lake, gorgeous sunsets and listening to the loons every day. The home was well appointed and beautifully decorated- the perfect relaxing get-a-way and home base for exploring the Cable/Hayward area. This authentic log cabin is the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern creature comforts with it's gourmet kitchen, new bathroom, and beautiful stone fireplace. The only thing that could have made this stay even better is bigger beds. The description and pictures were spot on and we would definitely recommend this property to a friend. Our baby slept better than she ever has the entire week we were at this cabin, which is a pretty big endorsement for any sleep-deprived parents! We were talking about a return trip before we even left. There was a big sandy beach and we enjoyed swimming in the cool, clear water. Nearby mountain bike trails and river kayaking were also a big hit with our group. Our favorite restaurant in Cable is definitely the Rivers Eatery which has awesome stone oven pizzas, lots of local taps and a cool vibe. This cabin and is truly a gem- Thanks Wendy!

The directions to this place were "spot on". The information regarding the best places in the area were very detailed and easy to follow, not to mention that all of the suggestions were great places to see and eat! The pictures didn't even reflect the warm and cozy feeling when we entered the door! The property was meticulous and certainly welcoming! We brought our four kids and they were so excited about the "real cabin" feel, logs on the wall!! The cross country skiing was so much fun, the snowshoeing was incredible as well. We were blown away by the great snowmobile trails, the best part was snowmobiling to several resorts and bars that really catered to the "elite" snow mobile crowd. Very welcoming atmosphere in the whole area and such a welcome place to come home to after a day of fun! Hot Coco by the awesome fire place to relax after a fun filled day! I would definitely recommend this place for anyone that wants to get away from it all, have a "real" cabin feel and still have a lot of close by things to keep you entertained!

We loved this cabin!
We loved this cabin!
It is beautifully decorated and exceptionally clean while still being comfortable and cozy. The online pictures and description are very accurate. Prior to our visit, the homeowner sent plenty of local information and even spoke with us on the phone and gave us wonderful suggestions of things to do in the area. You should definitely go tubing! We stayed for a week with our two boys. They especially loved the kayaking since the lake is pristine and peaceful. The fishing was good and the beach out front is nice for younger kids. We took advantage of everything - kayaking, fishing, paddle-boating, swimming, etc. There's really so much it is hard to mention everything. Our boys already asked when we could go back. I would absolutely recommend this property to friends and family.

Fantastic get-a-way! The cabin is outstanding from the layout, ammenties and decor. The five bedrooms are very well appointed and the beds are extremely comfortable with windows that let in the clean northwoods fresh air. The fireplace made for cozy family evenings playing board games and billards. The town of Cable is very impressive with antiques stores, great resturants and local artists. Don't miss Nordic Sleigh Antiques and we highly suggest Garmish Resort for the fish fry on Friday. The owners are very easy to work with and accommodating. Thanks for sharing your cabin with us!

Our family thoroughly enjoyed a week's vacation at Joe and Wendy's charming, spectacularly furnished, and fully appointed cabin. The 1930's log cabin was recently renovated and provides a comfortable and cozy base to explore the Cable/Hayward/Ashland/Bayfield area. The central a/c made sleeping on those warm nights a joy. The large great room and adjoining TV/sunroom were perfect for family gatherings and meals. We used the owner's two kayaks and the fishing boat with electric motor daily. The really special attributes of this cabin are the rustic furnishings and the fully-stocked gourmet kitchen. We had a fantastic visit and highly recommend this cabin to any and all.
