Rent either of our two condos and as a special gift you will receive a complimentary copy of Savannah : Postcard History Series (retails for $19.99 in shops all around Savannah.) This is a great new book that has 129 pages and uses more than 200 vintage postcards to give the reader a glimpse of what Savannah was like more than 100 years ago. Much has changed in that time while much has stayed the same. A great resource for visitors to our beautiful city!
The following is taken from the Savannah Visitor's Center self- guided walking tour. Our house is the first stop on the tour!
"We begin our tour at the Visitors Center on MLK (1) and head East on Liberty Street to the corner of Liberty and Barnard. Across the street on the Southwest corner sits the Bird-Baldwin House (2). It is the oldest building in the city south of Liberty St. The original wood portion (left) was constructed in 1838. The floor plan, typical of most construction at the time, had a wide entrance hall with double parlors. The parlor floor was raised to permit maximum air through the house. Mr. Lewis Bird, a prominent Attorney began the original construction, but before it was completed the entire Bird family perished on the Steamship Pulaski when it exploded off the coast of North Carolina. (just to make things a little more intersting the closest square to the house is Pulaski Square!)
Mr. Bird's mother completed the house and sold it to his law partner Mr. Baldwin who lived in it for many years. The stucco portion was added in 1860. The house was used by General Shermans' officers as thier headquarters. Over the years the house has been a private residence, an apartment building, a store and a corner tavern known as "Harry's".
It had deteriorated so badly that street people were living in it and it caught fire several times yet the house survived. After sitting vacant for many years, in 1980 it was renovated into six apartments. In 1991 it became a Bed & Breakfast. A couple of years ago it was converted into condominiums."
Our condos are a wonderful example of Savannah architecture and living. They are located at 201 West Liberty Street (at the intersection of Barnard and Liberty Streets and just one block West of the geographic center of the Historic District and are available for both short-term and long-term rental. Each 1000 square foot- non smoking - condo rental is located on the third floor (walk up) with no guests above you for additional privacy.
Our Savannah condos offer soaring ceilings and Savannah heart pine flooring. Large windows offer a great view and lots of light but also privacy since the units are on the third floor. Each has a large private bath with Jacuzzi jetted tub which is great after long walks in one of America's "Most Walkable Cities." Each has a fully furnished kitchen (with combo microwave/convection oven and separate cooktop) which gives you the opportunity to cook your own meals or take advantage of several wonderful restaurants in the immediate area. Each unit is non smoking and offers one king size bed and one pull out sofa.
The Bird Baldwin House is located within a short walk of the Savannah Visitor's Center where you can pick up one of the many guided tour trolleys or learn more about the activities Savannah has to offer. Complimentary off street - onsite parking is included in your rental (one per unit). These cozy condos offer all you need for a couple of days or a couple of months. Live like a true Savannahian... If only for a short while!
Both condos are located at the corner of West Liberty Street and Barnard Street. Orleans Square is one block South and Pulaski Square is 1/2 block North. They are located close to SCAD student dorms on Oglethorpe and are directly across from the Savannah Civic Center, the site of SCAD graduation. Great for visits from SCAD parents!
The condos are furnished with all bed linens and bath terry. They are also stocked with extra pillows and blankets. We always take in to account the number of guests and length of stay and try to leave plenty of bath terry & linen. Please notify us when making your reservation if you plan to use the pullout sofa. Of course we ask that you reuse bath terry whenever possible. For extended stays we will drop off clean bath terry and pick up soiled terry. Due to such a wide variety of personal preference, we are unable to provide personal hygiene items like face soap, bath soap, shampoo or conditioner. Please bring these items with you.
These condo units are locally owned and operated. When you call or email for information you are speaking with the owners, not a management company who oversees hundreds of units. We are in these units between each guest visit to ensure that they are clean and well maintained. When we have family and friends visit Savannah, they stay here.
We have over 35 years combined hospitality experience. We spent over a year looking for a condo that offered all the key touchpoints that we know, from experience, visitors to Savannah need and expect. A great location that is easy to find for first time visitors (we are less than two blocks west of the geographic center of the Historic District), off street parking, a historically significant building (built in 1838), original doors and heart pine flooring, comfortable furnishings including a large king bed with high-end mattress and box spring (no thin worn out mattresses), a very large jacuzzi and a fully equipped kitchen with all utensils and pots and pans. Each unit has a coffee maker but we do not provide filters or coffee. Those items can be purchased locally. These are truly great condo units available at very competitive rates.
