Enjoy all that Downeast Maine has to offer but avoid the Bar Harbor crowds with this charming cottage situated on over 600 feet of prime Flanders Pond waterfront and 55 acres.
The cottage has been lovingly remodeled and includes a queen size bed, a full bath with shower, washer/dryer, pull-out sofa, comfortable reading chairs, a large dining table indoors and another dining area on the screened porch. Spacious enough for a family of 4 but also cozy and romantic for couples.
Flanders Pond is a delightful, quiet lake with beautiful views of near by Schoodic Mountain; the loons are mesmerizing and the water is perfect for swimming, canoeing, kayaking or fishing. (2 kayaks and a canoe provided.) You'll feel a million miles from anywhere -- yet you're only a short drive to Winter Harbor, Ellsworth, and other neighboring towns for groceries, supplies, restaurants, lobster, ice cream and all of the wonderful activities that the area offers. (Many people don't realize that Winter Harbor is also home to a stunning piece of Acadia National Park -- always uncrowded, with a few lovely hikes, a nice biking loop, and some of our favorite views in Maine.) Bar Harbor is a scenic, easy 40-minute drive from the cottage.
This little slice of heaven has been in the family for three generations and we are excited to share it with you. Please note: there is another cottage on the property, used exclusively by the owners, which would be vacant during your stay.

We recently stayed for a week at the cottage. It was charming and well set up. The lake was quiet and private. We saw the resident eagles daily. We paddled on this lake and 2 others. We hiked local mountains and enjoyed the local harbors. We stopped by for fresh produce daily at the nearby organic farm. There is still so much more to do, we would love to come again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway.

My husband and I recently returned from our vacation on Flanders Pond at the lovely cottage. Everything about this was perfect. The cottage is so nice, simple, well-appointed and the pond is just lovely...swimming, campfires, kayaking and just the beauty of Maine. The owners are also so nice, as we had the pleasure of meeting them, as they were ending their stay at the cottage. Our stay, summed up...early morning coffee lakeside, swimming, dinner and wine in the perfect screened porch. day trips to Bar Harbor, Acadia, Winter Harbor, Schoodic Peninsula and exploring the simplicity of Down East Maine. The organic farm stand is incredible, we shopped daily for fresh vegetables, flowers and went home with the best cucumber relish. For dining, many places -- simple and fancy. We loved the Crocker House and Bunker's Wharf Restaurant in Bunker's Harbor -- we sat outside by the ocean sipping Dark and Stormy drinks on a chilly day. Another perfect spot is Grindstone Beach --we went several times during our stay. All we can say, is at least spend half of your time at the cottage just relaxing, reading, swimming, cooking and a campfire every night is the best. You will love the cottage and we will surely be back next year. Also...we had a few rainy days and highly recommend going to the wineries in the area, it was so much fun, many unique blueberry wines and met so many nice people. We miss you Flanders Pond!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

If you're looking for a relaxing getaway, look no further. This cottage is perfectly appointed with all necessary modern amenities. We had our three young (ages 6, 4 and 1) children with us and they all had a fantastic time enjoying the outdoors as well as being in the cozy cottage. Flanders Pond is pristine and secluded and is great for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, birdwatching, frog catching, paddle boarding, stone skipping and fishing. A close drive to both Winter Harbor and Bar Harbor, there are lots of fun excursions at your fingertips - like whale watching, visiting/hiking Acadia, and eating lobsters. We are already looking forward to our visit in 2013.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My husband and I had an amazing time at the cottage in Sullivan. The weather was amazing, cool mornings and evenings and mid 70's during the day. Perfect for August. The cottage was clean, tastefully decorated and very comfortable. We had our morning coffee on the bench overlooking Flander's Pond and listened to the loons in the distance. Campfires in the evenings were a great way to end each day. The screened porch was great for meals and relaxing too. The property location was quiet and secluded yet we were close to many sites like Winter Harbor and Beal's Island. Definitely one of the best vacation spots in Maine.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

We rented the upper cabin which is very nicely decorated, comfortable, and well appointed. The location is great, between the Scoodic Peninsula and Acadia. Flanders Pond (really a small lake) is beautiful and peaceful. The fire ring on a rock jutting into the lake is perfect for an evening fire while stargazing. Unfortunately we had to go back to work; would have loved to stay longer!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

I just wanted to let you know we all had a wonderful time! Thank you for sharing your home away from home with us. It was obvious that you cared about the cabin. Everything looked brand new. We did our first real hiking with the kids. They climbed both Cadillac and Penobscot in Acadia and we also did Schoodic. I wish we had discovered Donnell Pond earlier in the week. It was gorgeous and the kids loved it. Every year we plan our trip to Maine and pick a new place to explore. For the first time I think we will be hard pressed to pick a new spot!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

My wife and I absolutely loved our stay. The lake is very calm and not heavily trafficked, the cottage we was absolutely charming and so comfortable. It had been recently renovated, was very tasteful and we really appreciated having a washer and dryer. We'll definitely be coming back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
