What a treat! My family traveled from Iowa and Kentucky to attend a wedding at Basin Harbor Resort, and we had the opportunity to spend several days at this lakefront property together. The property is nestled in a wooded area - close enough to see the neighbors, but private enough to have some breathing room and enjoy the space. There are three bedrooms upstairs - one master, one with a queen bed, and one with two twin beds. There is one full bath that opens to both the hallway and the master bedroom. The view of Lake Champlain and the cliff on the opposite side of the lake were breathtaking from up there (but equally beautiful from the main level as well). There's a fourth bedroom on the main level adjacent to a 3/4 bath, a lovely sitting area, eat-in kitchen and huge living room that opens to the wrap around porch. The home itself was beautifully constructed, simple and neutral decorating, very clean and had more than ample space for the five of us. We could have easily accommodated three more adults if necessary. There were plenty of towels for us, and the kitchen was well-equipped. We even used the propane grill on the porch - plenty of gas was provided. The owners of this home were extremely easy to work with, friendly, and accommodating which certainly enhanced our stay and made the whole trip much easier. If you're traveling to Basin Harbor, you'll be pleased to know it's almost next door, which is also to say that you're about a 10 minute drive from Vergennes. We traveled to Burlington several times during our stay, and learned from experience that you need to budget an hour for that trip one-way. It's close when you consider the mileage, but a two-lane highway and 50mph speed limit will slow you down if you happen to, for example, get caught behind a bike race or school bus that stops every few miles. My family very much enjoyed the trip and wholeheartedly recommend this lake front property! We wouldn't have had the same experience staying in a hotel or resort. This was a perfect, quiet, enjoyable getaway.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We enjoyed eating meals looking out onto the water. So nice to be able to walk down to the dock and take the kayaks out for exploring. Our 80 lb mutt loved playing fetch in the water, and walking down the country roads. We were close enough to enjoy some meals out in both Vergennes and Burlington, and even some hikes around Middlebury. Great location, not too far out that you can't take some nice day trips to explore the beautiful state of Vermont.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, pet owners, girls getaway.

Hi Angela, The house is lovely and we had a great time. I started to fill out the paper questionnaire but decided to send an email instead. What a beautiful location. The house, the view, the setting and the neighborhood are all fantastic.Your neighbors are such nice people. You asked in the questionnaire if anything was better or worse than expected and I'd have to say the photos on the listing don't do justice to the view or the waterfront area. We were pleasantly surprised at how spectacular they were. All in all we enjoyed ourselves very much and we'd definitely be interested in renting again. And, by the way, we did eat at the Black Sheep Bistro and it was excellent. The food was very good and the service friendly. Thanks again for all your helpful emails. I hope to be in touch again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Why the Owner Chose Vergennes:
Lake Champlain has so much to offer, not to mention the beauty surrounding the area. Our family loves all the outdoor opportunities this area offers: great skiing in the winter; hiking, biking, boating, and swimming in the summer; antiquing and 'leaf peeping' in the fall; and gearing up for summer in the spring!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
With over 100 miles of waterfront, Lake Champlain varies in water quality, views, and accessibility. Unique to our area is the proximity to the Basin Harbor Resort with its restaurants, championship golf, and even onsite museum. Make new friends at The Red Mill restaurant (live entertainment most weekends in the summer) or go for a long solitary jog or bike ride along the rarely traveled country roads. In the winter/spring, you can plan a day trip to some of the best skiing mountains in Vermont! Mad River Glen (Ski it if you can!) and the Middlebury Snowbowl are within an hour drive, and Jay Peak is within 2 hours.
Whether you want total relaxation or a high energy vacation you'll find this the perfect place to be!
