Are you ready to take a break from your hectic life and spend some relaxing time in a tranquil, quiet setting? Let the world pass you by? How about romantic, starry nights? No telephone and no interruptions? Not another house in sight. Then our Irish Country Cottage might be just the right place for you! Discover the real Ireland!
Our cottage is nestled in the heart of Ireland. It is cozy, and warm with 3 bedrooms and 1 ½ bathrooms. One of the bedrooms has a double bed, and the other two have a single bed each. The cottage has a modern style and the smell of wood throughout. A comfortable living room contains a 42 inch TV with cable/satellite, 2 full-length leather couches, a small music, book, and video library, and gas fire for a cozy or romantic evening. Internet is available on-site.
The kitchen boasts an open floor plan with a dining room table seating 6. Washer and dryer are available for your convenience. Flowers and plants are blooming in the garden and you may experience the occasional visit from foxes and hedgehogs. You may hear the sound of sheep bleating and cows mooing in the surrounding fields.
The cottage sits on one half acre, a short distance from the towns of Athlone and Roscommon. Enjoy beautiful views of the Shannon River, which is a 5 minute walk from the house. Lough Ree is close by and the hub for all kinds of activities including boat cruises and water sports.
When you feel like exploring, dancing and music is in every pub, and you could visit Sean's Bar, the oldest pub in Ireland. St. John's Wood is a stone's throw away and an excellent place for an exhilarating hike. Visit Clonmacnoise, an early Christian site founded between 545-548, and enjoy a beautiful sunset overlooking the Shannon River with Celtic crosses in the background.
Kilbeggan is host to the Kilbeggan Horse Races and Locke's Distillery, home of Ireland's finest whiskey. Discover Birr, an Irish Heritage Town with Georgian architecture and Birr Castle, which features one of the world's largest telescopes, located on the castle grounds.
Our Irish cottage is centrally located, and an easy drive to either coast. Or, take a scenic bus or train ride from Athlone or Roscommon into Dublin or Galway. Experience the majestic Cliffs of Moher or take a trip to the Dingle Peninsula. All of these and more are within easy reach.

The service we received was wonderful! Michelle and Jude Cooney were extremely nice and helpful- the house was immaculate when we got there. It was spacious and well-decorated with a big Hdtv in the living room with a gas fireplace- it was perfect Christmas night for bunking up on the couch and watching some movies with some Christmas cookies! The location is great- it's a bit removed from bigger cities, so if you're looking for action it may not be for you, but we were looking to get away and it was perfect for us. Great walking trails very close to the house, by the medieval village, and Rindoon castle. Overall a wonderful rental, and I'd recommend it! Lecarrow Cottage offers an atmosphere of total tranquility. The cottage is located mid-way between the towns of Athlone and Roscommon, on the banks of Lough Ree. The cottage offers all comforts of home, is beautifully decorated inside, and is surrounded by its own country cottage style garden. You can be on the banks of Lough Ree within minutes. Both towns are just a 10 minutes drive from the cottage, and the Hudson Bay hotel and golf course is just a five minutes drive. The town of Athlone is friendly and welcoming to all tourists. You can even visit the oldest bar in Ireland, Seans Bar just beside Athlone Castle. For a holiday break in Ireland I can recommend Lecarrow Cottage as a destination that will leave you with a holiday to remember.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1999
About the owner: I was born and raised in Ireland, not far from our wonderful cottage. My wife was born in the U.S., and has spent many years overseas, where we met. Both of us have worked and lived in different countries, so we appreciate being able to come home to a quiet, relaxing place to unwind.
Why the Owner Chose Lecarrow:
I grew up in the Midlands, so when it came time to buy a home, Lecarrow was an obvious choice because I wanted to settle down in a quiet, country area, to enjoy the tranquility, peace, and free space of country life. I bought the land in 1999 and spent the next 2 years having the house built while I was working overseas. The cottage has been my oasis on return trips home and now that I'm married, my wife and I love spending time there whenever we can.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Experience the contrast, from the hustle and noise of city life, to the laid-back experience of country life. Our home is a quiet, country retreat, in a tranquil, relaxing setting surrounded by green fields, forests, water, and wildlife. The cottage is situated on half an acre, about half a mile or a 5 minute walk from the River Shannon and 10 minutes from Lough Ree. Easy access to water activities, shopping, and tourist attractions. Day trips to anywhere in the country, including Dublin, Galway, Cork, the Ring of Kerry and Dingle Peninsula.
