This unique home is known in the area as the “Boat House”, and once you see the photos, you will certainly understand why! You will definitely want to take photos and/or videos to record your precious memories of this vacation…
From this fantastic home, you have breathtaking ocean views from almost every room in the house, from the kitchen, the dining room, the living room, both bedrooms, even the guest bathroom. The ocean is literally your backyard; just 4 steps & you are on the sand. And the sunrises and sunsets are simply picture perfect!
This house is a fully furnished two story home with 2 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms. The wonderful kitchen has a gas stove and all the other things, including lots of counter space, you need to prepare your meals. (or if you don’t want to cook, there are plenty of wonderful restaurants in the area!) Comfortable & inviting, this house sleeps 4- 6 (master bedroom with double bed, guest bedroom with twin beds, and a queen size air bed) The master bedroom has a wonderful carved wood bed & dresser, with an adjoining bathroom. Down the hall is the guest bathroom with its Jacuzzi tub and a great view of the ocean. At the end of the hall is the guest bedroom. It has two twin beds and a small deck, with a ship’s wheel.
Downstairs there is plenty of room to set up the air bed, and there is a ½ bathroom next to the living room. For those warm, lazy days there is a deck just outside the living room so you can gaze down upon the sandy beach. And for those quiet, relaxing times, there is the electric fireplace in the living room. There are also two TVs & a DVD player for the times when you are not playing in the water or sunbathing in your “backyard”. The parking is private and secluded (not street parking).
Within a few minute walking distance are the Café Rio, the Pixie Deli, Full of Beans at the Beach, and the Rio Market. Another easy walk is to the SS Palo Alto, the famous cement ship, which was built at the end of WWI. A few miles away is the Rancho del Mar Shopping Center, which has, to name just a few places, Safeway, Aptos Theater, Baskin Robbins, & Aptos Jewelers. Across the street are such places as “Sushi on the Run”, a laundry mat, Ferrells’ Donuts, & Taco Bell. For those golf lovers, the Seascape Resort Golf Course is only a couple of miles away. Close by are the DeLaveaga Golf Course & the Pasatiempo Golf Club.
This house is an ideal location in Santa Cruz County. Beside its proximity to the beach, other near-by attractions include the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Roaring Camp, Mystery Spot, Monterey (the Monterey Bay Aquarium is a “must”), Carmel-by-the-Sea, San Francisco, & San Jose. You can travel from the sandy beaches to the redwoods in the mountains in just a matter of minutes. There is simply something for everyone!

We spent a week in this wonderful beachfront home. Even if you don't want to cook, you will spend time in the kitchen enjoying the view of the waves crashing on the beach. Great area for walking and bike rides. Close to everything you may want to do. We really enjoyed waking up to the fog in the morning and watching it burn off in time to enjoy a sunny day. The Sunsets are breathtaking. Buddy (our Cocker) loved having the sandy beach as his front yard to play in and take care of his business (please remember to always pick up after you dog). No matter how you like to spend you vacation, this is a great place to call home. Thanks Gail and Jay for being such great hosts.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway.

My husband and I stayed at the Boat House and had a fantastic time! It's such a fun place, and we enjoyed being the envy of the beachgoers who couldn't help but stop and admire the house as they walked by. It's adorable from the outside, and the interior decor is in keeping with the theme. Far from being kitschy, every room is tastefully and thoughtfully decorated in a nautical motif. It's also well-appointed, and we had everything we needed. There's a lot to do in the area, but we hardly ventured out - what could compare with having your own house right on the beach? We loved sitting on the balcony overlooking the sand and watching the sunsets, or enjoying the charming fireplace and romantic bath with jacuzzi tub. The private parking was a huge plus - we saw cars driving around and around looking for a place to park, so it was nice not to have to worry about that. The little store, coffee house and deli within walking distance were handy. The owners couldn't have been more warm and welcoming, and went out of their way to make sure we felt right at home. We are already planning for when we can return - and it can't come soon enough!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We stayed at the Boat House for a week over the fourth of July. It was amazingly delightful. Close enough to the bay area for friends to come down and spend the day. Fire rings on the beach for bonfires at night. Lovely furnishings, and fully equipped with all conveniences. Can't beat being right on the beach and across from restaurants and a little market. Highly recommend. And, the owners are so warm and welcoming.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway.

My husband, 3 kids (ages 16, 14 & 8) and 2 dogs stayed at the Boat House for one week this summer. It was the most relaxing vacation ever. The house is right on the "dog-friendly" beach which we walked each morning and were treadted to daily sightings of dolphins and seals. The house was very charming, the location very convenient and the owners extremely welcoming. Only bummer was in the midst of a family football game on the sand, my husband lost his wedding ring.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway.

My Son, Mother and best friend stayed at this beautiful house for four days and LOVED it! The house was so clean, that everything sparkled! Plus, the owner took the time to meet us at the house and show us around, which I thought was very nice. It is steps from the beach, firepits for bonfires and stores to stock up on supplies. This is my 3rd rental through VRBO and by far the BEST! EXCELLENT!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with young children.

my wife and i have wonderful memories of our time spent here in this charming beach house.Its location right on the beach is magical, and we loved exploring the old ship wreck just a short walk up the beach. Great food both casual and formal dining, only minutes away. beautifully decorated with an incredible view from every room in the house, CHARMING!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My family and I had a great time at this beach house decorated with a nautical motif inside and out, right down to the dishes. A great view of cement boat, the beach, nightly bonfires and just steps to the beach. All the amenities were great and modern. The owners have put alot of care into this seaside home. The sound of the surf and the ocean breeze was great. Private parking and the balcony are bonuses. The owners were very gracious and helpful. Most conviences are just 50 yards away, store, restaraunt, coffee house/Deli.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

Santa Cruz County is beautiful from its sandy beaches to its redwood forests, and Aptos is centrally located. From here, it is easy to travel north to Santa Cruz, Half Moon Bay, or San Francisco or south to Monterey, Carmel, or Big Sur, just to name a few amazing places.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
First & foremost, you are ON the beach, with literally only 4 steps before you hit the sand! No fighting traffic or difficulties in finding a parking spot. For those times you don't feel like 'going' to the beach, you can still see it from almost every room in the house. You can sit outside on the deck, or just gaze thru almost any window. There are only a handful of homes in all of Santa Cruz County that are located on the beach like this home. Most homes are on bluffs or across the street from a beach. This is the only home in this county that we know of that is shaped like a boat on the outside and then carries that theme thruout the inside, too. This home is easy to get to, only a few miles from the freeway. The area is beautiful & quiet, but yet close enough to stores, restaurants, attractions, etc. So many different things to do (or not to do, your choice) that everyone should be quite happy….
