Nestled in the woods of Maine,is our haven for quiet, private, relaxation on the ocean cove. Great Ledge House is a retreat house for those of you looking for Maine's slogan, 'The way life should be,' ...you can find it at the Great Ledge House.
Great Ledge House vacation rental is located 5.5 miles from Ellsworth, Maine, the gateway to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, and Mt. Desert Island. Enjoy your Maine vacation at our beautiful house for rent either by the week or for long weekend retreats.
Our getaway house will someday be our retirement home. But until then, we hope to extend the opportunity to you to have a comfortably delightful place to stay in the beautiful state of Maine.
Great Ledge House is down a road leading out onto the Great Ledge peninsula. This peninsula goes out into Frenchman Bay, which then opens out to the Atlantic Ocean. The tides are very
extreme this far north and the coves in front of our house and off our little peninsula fill up at full tide; and then the water recedes completely at low tide to show the mud flats.
The constant tidal changes enhance the bird life in our area.
The house is located 5.5 miles outside of Ellsworth, Maine. Ellsworth is a busy community which provides the jump off point out to Mount Desert Island where Bar Harbor, Maine
and Acadia National Park are located. Bar Harbor and Acadia are 13 miles from the house. When you visit, don’t miss the more northern part of Acadia National Park, which
is farther up Route 1 from Ellsworth, and is known as The Schoodic Peninsula. The “Schoodic” provides some of the best coastal Maine scenes there are to be seen.
One of Maine’s true assets is its people. You will find them friendly, casual, and helpful. Have a restful visit, and let us know how we can improve your stay at our Great Ledge House the next time you can come!
With warm regards,
Sarah and Michael Ciampa

This cabin looks exactly like the pictures and seemed instantly welcoming. We were so delighted with the space and especially the location, very quiet and peaceful and relaxing. With beautiful views, a loft bedroom with skylights, a cozy master bedroom, fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, surrounded by woods, this place exceeded our expectations. It's very clean and well-maintained, and though we didn't need the wood stove, I can imagine just how cozy it would be with a fire in the stove. The spiral staircase, while charming, might prove to be difficult for the elderly (and even dangerous for children), but there is plenty of sleeping space downstairs, so this isn't a problem. The loft bedroom was worth navigating the staircase (and there is a posted disclaimer advising guests not to let children play on the stairs). We slept so well with the windows open to the clean, cool night air. I highly recommend this place and would gladly return!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

A very homey place for a vacation... unwind, relax and enjoy the beautiful view of the lake from the balcony sitting on the adirondack chairs in the patio with a cup of coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the afternoon. We loved this place so much. The house is very neat and clean, well taken cared of by the owners. We loved cooking in the kitchen that has everything you need.. especially steaming live lobsters, very cheap from nearby town. Four lobsters for 24 bucks and a heavenly blueberry pie for dessert. Nothing is better than that! The house is near Acadia National Park. Sunset at Cadillac Mountain is majestic. We had plenty of places we visited and our friends enjoyed their boat tour of lighthouses. A welcome bottle of wine and a personal note is a plus. You really feel welcome. This is a perfect vacation home. Our picture of Maine will always be special. Thank you, Sarah and Nancy! We definitely will be back in our future vacation.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

Dear Sarah, Just wanted to let you know what a WONDERFUL time we had at the Great Ledge house this past week. The house is so charming, and we had a ball cooking, eating on the deck, laughing, sitting by the peninsula and everything. We took a few trips into Acadia, which was absolutely tremendous. Thank you for making our first trip to Maine so special! You can bet that we will be back. Hope you had a lovely fourth. All best, LaurenDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We have been to this idyllic and pristine retreat three times in the past few years, and we always dream about it when we are not there! Each visit, our family of 5, including 3 teenage daughters, has enjoyed the privacy of being both in the woods and on beautiful inlets on both sides of the house! There was a nice canoe available for our use. One time we were lucky enough to see an eagle roost in the inlet. The house's location offers an easy 30 minute commute into Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, but we were always happy to leave the crowds of tourists and return to our lovely retreat with our own private beaches. The spacious lodge has gorgeous pine paneling throughout and cathedral ceilings, including one enclosed bedroom and a very nice loft bedroom accessible by a circular staircase, providing ample space for our children. The kitchen was nicely outfitted with everything one could need to cook fresh-caught seafood which we bought in Bar Harbor. There were grocery stores and restaurants within ten minutes of the house, including a great breakfast place and coffee shop in Ellsworth. If you want the perfect vacation with the charm of the Maine coast at your doorstep, this is the place for you. We will definitely return. It was everything they said it would be and more.....a truly relaxing vacation.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

The area around the house is beautiful and peaceful. We really got into the "zen" of watching the tide come in and out and especially loved sitting on the deck with morning coffee. At the same time, Ellsworth, Arcadia and Bar Harbor are nearby, so there are many opportunities to get out and about--for hiking, boating, shopping and eating out. It's the perfect combination of tucked-away serenity and summer resort hustle - bustle. You can have either or both, in whatever combination suits your mood. The house was clean and well maintained with everything you would need. The owners were wonderful and answered our questions.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

My husband and I fell totally in love with the house and the area! Such a warm, welcoming home with all the amenities a traveler needs! Loved the views and changing tides,as well as the availability and close proximity to Acadia and other great scenic spots! Morning coffee out overlooking the tidal basin and evening cocktails out on the peninsula..with comfy chairs and perfect wine glasses! Fully equipped kitchen allows all sorts of dining options, but also loved the restaurants and cafes nearby in town. Fell in love with the loft bedroom and the spiral stair case adds such unbelievable charm to the snug and cozy home! The views are exceptional! Sitting out on the deck, relaxing with a great book or puzzle, allowed us to unwind in ways we didn't think possible! Especially after hiking at Acadia all day! We would strongly recommend this beautiful get- a -way to anyone who wants to truly experience all the beauty of Maine in a perfect environment! We actually have already reserved our return trip with our closest friends and can't wait for them to enjoy all that the house and area have to offer! It is gem! Get ready to totally enjoy your stay!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

About the owner: Michael&Sarah purchased the property to fill a life long love with the coast of Maine. Michael designed and built the house.
Why the Owner Chose Lamoine:
We chose this location because of the endless beauty we find looking out at the tidal water view. We love the easy driving distance to Acadia/Bar Harbor, as well as the charming 'Schoodic' area and the endless amount of hiking trails and coastal towns to discover.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
It is quiet and relaxing. We enjoy walking over to our private tree lined granite ledge peninsula that juts out into the cove. We have picnics, view the birdlife, meditate and simply unwind.
