South Bristol house description
Come stay over the water at our unique house built entirely on pilings in the midst of South Bristol's working waterfront. Here, you'll fall asleep to the sounds of the water. You can watch the lobstermen come in with the day's catch and buy fresh seafood right off the boat from the wharf across the street. Adjust to the rhythm of the tides and soak in the essence of Maine!
The house is furnished with antiques from a lifetime of collecting. The 18th-century king-sized bed in the master bedroom is perfect after a long day of kayaking or hiking. It's the ideal romantic getaway or family vacation.
Spend the day boating, kayaking, hiking, biking, golfing, or simply tanning on the decks at the water's edge. Swim and fish off the floating decks and swimming platform. The house is a labor of love. Contact me, I'd love to share what is truly my favorite place in the world with you.

Truly charming and beautiful!
Truly charming and beautiful!
The cottage is well worth the rental in every way. The views off the back deck are gorgeous, my family and I enjoyed breakfast out on it every morning. The cottage itself is located in a quiet cove, but well within striking distance of pretty much everything along the Maine coast. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you will need to whip up a lobster or seafood dinner. Very convenient to be able to park in the garage, it made packing and unpacking the car a breeze. Try the lobster co-op across the street as well, far less pricy than buying in the seafood stores and the freshest lobster I have ever had. If you are searching for the perfect cottage in Maine, I would say look no further, you have found it. We hope to be back in the near future.

Cooper and Willie who are the owners were great. They happened to be there on our stay. But down to business. It is without a doubt one of the best places to stay in Maine. Seafood right across the street. A garage to park car. I could sit there all day and watch the boats come and go thru bridge. You can take trips through the area with a wonderful place to come home to. I will stay there next year. Walk to lobster land is 40 seconds. We hated to leave.

The Gut House exceeded expectations in terms of its location and its charm. It's a lovely place on a narrow channel where small boats pass by the windows on their way to and from the sea. We were just steps away from buying live Maine lobsters and other fresh seafood. The house was well appointed and comfortable; the kitchen had everything we needed to enjoy preparing meals; the views of the cove from the large deck inspired sketching and painting. We took short road trips to lively tourist-filled towns (such as Rockland and Camden), but we were glad to come "home" to the Gut House and its quiet rhythm of tides. The owner was helpful in answering questions. We would recommend this rental to friends and family and would urge them not to miss a visit to near-by Pemaquid Lighthouse.

About the owner: I've been coming to Maine with my family for decades. I live and work in New York City and for me, South Bristol is a soothing counterpoint.
Why the Owner Chose South Bristol:
The house is a kind of family homestead. My mother retired to Maine after a legal career in New York, and we all fell in love with her home in South Bristol. It continues to be a gathering point for our family from all over the world.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Floating decks, outdoor cooking spaces, that you can fish out the windows, that the tides come up to within a meter of the bottom of the house, there really is no other place like it.
