This is a very nice clean cottage with everything you'd need. However, if you plan at all on going swimming, this is not the place to go. On the first day we got there, we went in the lake and it was like walking into sticky black cookie dough! It was disgusting! Even if you're on a flotation device, you still have to walk in and out of the lake, which when we were there, was also very shallow. But like I said, the cottage itself is very nice and there's a pretty view. And we ate at a couple very good restaurants in the area.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This property is a great weekend get-away. Only 2 hours from Chicago. A very easy drive. Very clean and cozy house in a peaceful, relaxed town. The owner was very helpful in planning and answering questions. The lake is lovely to look at and there is a great view from the nice deck, firepit, and dock area. However, it's not the best lake for swimming if that is your intention. The lake bed is extremely muddy -- very deep mud that's not so pleasant to walk in. The water is very shallow, so you can't just walk out of the mud and swim. But there is a marina down the road about 20 min. where you can rent a pontoon and enjoy that water that way which was quite enjoyable.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: We certainly appreciate the comments about our cabin. We take great pride in ensuring our cabin is clean, well equipped and accurately advertised. While our family thoroughly enjoys Lake Koshkonong, we certainly accept everyone views the lake differently. As a damned up flowage (Rock River), the water is not as clear as a spring fed lake nor is it as deep as one (average depth = 6’), which allows an adult to wade out into the water several hundred feet. The lake bottom does not contain seaweed or decomposing organic matter (e.g. sticks, leaves, stumps, etc…) and is primarily comprised of a soft sand & silt mixture. Certainly appreciate many of the above attributes can be viewed as either advantages or disadvantages depending on one wants to enjoy the lake (e.g. explore via boat, fish, swim or wade in the water, etc…). We do encourage our guests to ask any and all questions as more than anything, we want them to enjoy our cabin. - Brian & Michelle

LOVED our stay at this property and appreciated the owners very much. Communication was always very prompt and helpful. Everything was very clean and even better than I expected from the pictures! I came for a girlfriends' getaway. The six of us had plenty of room and each of us had our own bed. There were plenty of tables, couches, and chairs for lounging, games, and eating! The dining room table fit six very comfortably. We were delighted to find that there was a wonderful leveled and graveled space next to the water with a fire pit, where we roasted the s'mores left for us as a welcome gift. The kitchen included even more than we needed! We appreciated the photo instructions on using the gas stove/oven. We loved the classic cabin feel with nice wood walls! The sunsets were astounding! Great view from the dining room, game room, deck, firepit, and dock! We really loved the area! We spent an afternoon on Lake Ripley at Ripley Park, which has a small entry fee. The water was shallow, warm, and clear, and the beach was lovely and sandy. We rented a stand-up paddleboard and tandem kayak from Camrock Cafe and Sports. (They prefer if you call a couple days ahead). We also loved the farmer's/crafter's markets in Cambridge and Fort Atkinson. Cambridge has a great, artsy downtown. We enjoyed the fish fry at Norm's Hideaway, a bustling bar/restaurant with a wide variety of options. We also enjoyed The Mill with their large variety of sandwiches and burgers. This was a great place to enjoy time away! Very great location, near to Madison, Wisconsin, and Chicago.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We enjoyed our stay, this is a really nice, clean place, plenty of room, with a great location, under two hours from St. Charles, IL. The water in the lake was a little low but, that was due to the recent drought, with our 16ft Fish/Ski, we were still able to manage getting out on the water. The scenery from the deck couldn't have been better, great for sunsets. We will definitely keep this place in mind for future trips.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children.

My family had a wonderful time at this cabin. It was very cozy and comfortable for all. We did some boating, fishing, and some shopping in Milton. We especially enjoyed our nightly campfires by the lake. Our grandchildren made S'mores while watching the sunset over the lake. We loved watching the ducks, and geese fly over the lake. We even got to see some cranes and turkey vultures. It was a very relaxing stay for all. The cabin was very clean and had all the amenities needed for our stay. We will highly recommend this cabin to our friends, and we hope to be back in the future. Brian was very friendly and helpful. He answered any questions or concerns we had promptly. A very relaxing, and fun time for all of my family.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

From start to finish this was by far the best renting experience I have ever encountered. To start the process I emailed the owners and I had a very prompt response. Brian was more than willing to answer my questions over the phone and through email as questions came up. The cost of this property was extremely reasonable for what you get. We had 8 people and there was plenty of room for everyone. You can tell that the owners care about the property and everything was as good or better than advertised. The view of the lake was absolutely gorgeous and spending time on the deck and the dock was fantastic. We also were able to enjoy a fire right by the lake which was great. The cabin is very close to both Fort Atkinson and Edgerton which, between the two places, has about everything that you could need. We also made a trip to S & B Tubing in Albany WI which I would highly suggest. The cost there is very reasonable as well and it was a great way to spend 4 hours! In summary if you have a chance to rent this property I would not hesitate to do so. If I am ever looking for a cabin rental property like this again I will surely stay here.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Why the Owner Chose Newville:
My wife and I had spent years looking for the perfect vacation home. As a native of Wisconsin, I love what the area has to offer (huge lake, snow mobile trails, Fort Atkison/Madison/Milwaukee tourist activities, etc… and the proximity to Chicago, where we now live, is unbeatable as we are on the lake in less than 2 hours!
