This wonderfully situated apartment is located in one of DC's most vibrant neighborhoods with a rich cultural history. To quote the New York Times (2006), 'The Corridor is Cool Again.' Walk to Whole Foods, the Saturday Farmer's Market, and two metro stops. With both antique and contemporary furnishings and decor shops, art galleries, fabulous and unique eateries, coffee spots, and clothing boutiques within two blocks, your 'free' hours will be happily filled. The Mall is either a long walk or a metro ride away and cabs are readily available. The area is alive into the night and affords the visitor a feeling of comfort when walking about at late hours.
The apartment is the lower level of a restored home on the historic register and was completely renovated and professionally designed in 2010. The owners live on the upper two levels.

We stayed for a month! Everything was as good or better than advertised!! The owners live up stairs and were available when needed! The condo was super clean! The beds were very comfortable! The fire places provided atmosphere!! Lightening was soft! Lots of attention to details, in the kitchen and bathrooms! The only suggestion I would offer is that the sofa be replaced with one which is more comfortable for sitting. Also, my i phone did not work. My husband's did!! Internet was stronger in the front of the condo!! The area is awesome! Great bus and metro service! Interesting restaurants! Felt safe at all times! YES grocery store was close and mostly organic! Very quiet! We recommend this rental!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

The U Street neighborhood seems to exemplify DC’s vibrant diversity: simultaneously classy, historic, gentrified and edgy. We are a family of adults – two older, three younger – one living in DC – and this was a perfect location. From here, we wandered together and separately during almost all hours of the day and night to explore the rest of the city and attend a variety of events. Two blocks from the Metro, we were near restaurants, cafes, shops, clubs, churches, and parks. Transportation options were plentiful. We took the Metro to the Zoo, National Mall, and beyond, and walked to dinner and shops in adjacent Dupont and Logan Circles and to Adams-Morgan, the Federal Triangle, Foggy Bottom, and Georgetown. It required no effort to hail a cab. Two Bikeshare stations are close. We had access to a car twice; not surprisingly, on-street parking was a challenge but available. This downstairs apartment in a historic row house was recently renovated. It has wifi, full kitchen and laundry facilities, new appliances, many windows, two fireplaces, killer air-conditioning, lots of closets, cabinets and drawers. It is very nicely decorated but not over-the-top modern; rather, it is comfortably eclectic, with books to read and enough TV channels for anyone. It was easy to work from here, and you could also pull off a dinner party or sit on the front patio and watch the world. We were provided with extra towels, pillows and bedding, a large air mattress, laundry detergent and cleaning supplies. We liked that the owners’ family lives upstairs and loves their home and their community. They gave us useful recommendations like critiques of local grocery stores within reasonable walking distance. They are genuinely nice people, very conscientious, easy to communicate with by email, phone, or in person. Overall, we appreciated their flexibility; they met two sets of arrivals to give us keys, and accommodated two sets of departures, varying numbers of people, and a Wednesday through Tuesday week. This was a last-minute arrangement for a week typically booked far ahead; we had airline tickets, graduation plans, dinner reservations, and no place to stay. We wanted an upscale and secure but interesting location with enough room for us all to go in separate directions, convenient to transportation, yet somewhat affordable. Other property owners I contacted gave no response. Here, I received an immediate reply about availability and my questions were answered in detail. Thanks!Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

About the owner: We bought our home in 2009, attracted by the diversity, vibrancy, and convenience of the neighborhood. As professionals, we wanted to be close to work. As parents, we wanted to be within walking or public transport distance of all that DC has to offer. We are thrilled with our choice.
