Radda tower description
A view on a scenic wine and olive oil country. The ancient farmhouse of Augusto and Lele Vitali is an
excellent base from which to explore
the 'heart' of Tuscany. A few meters off the road to the village,
the Torre, facing Radda, stands in an olive grove overlooking vineyards and a small lake. The Torre is 1,5 km from Radda enjoing all the facilities of a charming small village. Siena is approximately 25 km away, Florence 40 km. San Gimignano, Volterra, Arezzo and all the wonderful hilltowns of Tuscany are whithin easy reach.
The Torre offers a two bedrooms apartment in a stone tower redone in 1852 on the original structure. The three story tower has terracotta floors and beamed ceilings, living room,
kitchen with open fireplace on the ground floor, bedroom and bathroom on the 2nd floor, main bedroom on top, connected by a spiral staircase. The swimming pool,
surrounded by a lavender and rosemary edge offers a quiet corner with table and deck chairs. It is located in the garden by the main house where the hosts Lele, Augusto and Enrico are always happy to meet you and be of help.
This is the country of wine,
you will find it everywhere! Here is a place where they will
let you taste a wonderful product, show you how it's done, all the work and passion beyind it. Both Enrico and twin brother Guido produce wine and Extravirgin Olive Oil which is the second main product of our area; the height and climate help the making of an excellent extravirgin product. Our biologic agriculture farm has approx 800 olive trees.

The Tower (Torre) in Radda in Chianti. Stunning.
The Tower (Torre) in Radda in Chianti. Stunning.
The Torre. What a brilliant place! Everything you want for a quiet relaxing “time out” in the heart of Tuscany. Very comfortable for just the two of us but would have easily accommodated another four. With picture postcard views from the seats outside the front door, and a nice glass of chianti to watch the sun go down over Radda, it is hard to think of a better place to be. Radda is an exceptional village with some great shops (lovely leather handbags), beautiful buildings and wonderful history. The co-op is the place to stock up on the basics (especially if you want to prepare your own meals or pick up the odd liquid supply) but there are enough restaurants or trattorias to keep you going for a while as well with excellent reasonably priced offerings. Coffees were as you would expect in Italy, magnifico. Enrico was particularly welcoming and it was great to share a quiet wine while sitting outside and getting some great tips for day trips, restaurants and even parking in Florence. Gracie. If it wasn’t so far to get to from New Zealand, we’d be back again next week!

Olives, vines and tranquility.
Olives, vines and tranquility.
My wife, our 2 adult children and I have just returned from our second stay at the tower. That fact alone speaks for itself. Everything this website says is true. It is increasingly difficult these days to find somewhere which offers the peace and quiet so that one can become content enough to enable real relaxation. The tower does just that. With the tower comes the best of both worlds. It is on its own enough to be really private, yet the owner's family are close by to offer any assistance that may be required, plus the use of their private pool. The building itself is unique. It is fully described on the website, with photos. The epitome of luxury it is not, but it has charm and character in abundance. One feels safe and cosy inside its substantial structure. Radda itself is a few minutes in the car or a 20 min walk through the vineyard from the tower. It is an interesting, compact town through which to wander. It is great to just take a coffee in one of the cafes and watch the world go by. There are also several good restaurants for more substantial dining opportunities; of the 21 meals we enjoyed during our 7 day stay, 20 were alfresco. Additionally there is a large chain supermarket and at least 2 smaller ones to stock up on essentials during the stay. We have been back in the UK for nearly 2 days now and we are planning our next visit to the tower. So if your aim is to really relax, escape from everyday routine and stress, have some space, enjoy your surroundings and still have daily essentials at your disposal, then the tower is the place to go. I ought just to mention this that as a base for travel the tower has much to commend it. There are many Chianti hilltowns close by to visit. Siena, Volterra and San Gimignano are all within reach. Additionally there are many vineyards offering wine tasting locally, in this, one of the World's richest sources of quality wine. Enough possibilities in fact to make the perfect holiday mix.

About the owner: When Augusto and Lele Vitali came back from Africa, where Augusto, Italian AirForce officer, was the link between Italian and Zambian Government, they were so used to wild nature that could not face life in a town. They started looking for a house in central Italy and finally found and bought Canvalle, an ancient farmhouse dating back to the 15th century. After a 5 years restoration that involved the whole family, they started living their country life and the three sons shared the passion for this region and make their living with the resources of the area. While Enrico is in charge of the Olive Oil production, Lele and Augusto are a helpful source of information, ready to suggest local itineraries, historic sites, cultural activities, markets and restaurants. Augusto is a wealth of knowledge where wild mushrooms are concerned and in the old charming kitchen Lele often receives 'Tutti a Tavola' friends and shares with them her 'family cooking'. Add to all this the silence and peace of the countryside and you will find out how unique it is to discover the genuine flavour of life in Tuscany by being at home in Chianti
