About the owner: My husband is an IT professional and I am a teacher in Orlando, FL. We have two precious little girls, ages 11 and 5. We enjoy living near our families in Florida but love to get to the mountains whenever we can! Our favorite activities in the Great Smoky Mountains include visiting Cade's Cove, eating at our favorite restaurants and anything we can do as a family!
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes, Arts & Crafts Community:
We searched for several years for just the right mountain view! It took us that long to find 'Higher Ground'. It has been a fantastic location for us. The house has the incredible views we searched for but the drive to the house is not difficult. Our home is in a quiet spot and though there are neighbors, we feel our home is very private. The Arts and Crafts Community is relaxed and not overly crowded, yet convenient to shopping and an easy drive to the many activities in the area. Dollywood, Downtown Gatlinburg, and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park are all very close to our home. Cherokee, NC is just a short drive away through the park.
I remember going to the Mountains with my family as a youngster to see the beautiful colors during the fall. My husband and I had a picture perfect honeymoon in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area in 1997. We are now enjoying the area by creating lots of new memories with our children!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The benefit we enjoy the most at our mountain house is what has been described by local people as 'one of the best views in the area'. We love to roll out of bed early in the morning, fill mugs with steaming hot coffee, grab a box of donuts and head to the deck to watch the sun light up those beautiful mountains. The views are best in the early morning and late afternoon. This works well as we usually head out to explore or visit favorite sights during the day. 'Higher Ground' has a total of 3 fireplaces; one in the great room and one in each of the Master Suites. If we are there during cooler months, it's a treat to enjoy the fireplaces both as we dress for the day and also as we turn in for the night. The huge jacuzzi tubs are great fun, our girls love the tubs but adults will love them as well! The hot tub is another of our favorite features . . . we love to soak in it and enjoy the mountain views but when the sun goes down, we enjoy the starry sky. Our girls love to play pool with their dad as we wind down after a busy day or watch one of our favorite DVD's.
