Haleiwa house description
This secluded, tropical property is situated on the banks of the Anahulu River, which flows into the Pacific Ocean. Relax in the peaceful surroundings while gazing at sea turtles swimming up the river and resting along the riverbanks. The lush vegetation surrounding the house includes many seasonal fruits, such as coconut, mango, apple bananas, avocado, guava, and lime. The lo‘i (Hawaiian taro patch) adjacent to the house, is home to the endangered ‘alae‘ula bird (Hawaiian moorhen). This property is very private and peaceful. Hale‘iwa town, where there are many quaint shops, excellent restaurants, and beautiful beaches, is only a 5- to 10-minute walk from the house. You can also try standup paddling right from the house, down the river to the ocean. Standup paddle lessons and board rentals are available for an additional fee.
The main house has two bedrooms and one and one half baths, with a complete kitchen, dining room, living room, and large enclosed lanai fronting the river. One bedroom has a queen bed and the other bedroom has two double beds. In addition, there are two day beds in the living room. The lower level of the main house is a one-bedroom unit with queen-sized bed and a futon, a full bath, kitchenette, and a large covered lanai for relaxing. The property also has a separate, private one-bedroom cottage with a queen bed and two day beds, its own bath, and a complete kitchen.

Excellent Family Vacation Property
Excellent Family Vacation Property
Our extended family, varying in age from 6 to 76, had the most wonderful time! An easy walk into Hale'iwa for shave ice or groceries, close to child friendly beaches, and well stocked! Just enough off the beaten trail and so tranquil to just sit by the river watching the sea turtles. J & E were great from the moment we made our reservation till we had to head home, in the end we felt as though we'd said goodbye to friends. Plenty of room to cook for and feed our gang of eight on the screened in lanai upstairs. More than enough towels, beach and bath, washer and dryer, cooking utensils, plates, etc.! And the kitchen was stocked with staples to make almost any meal. Did I mention how tranquil it was to sit by the river? Besides the turtles it's great fun to watch people learning to paddle board, and marvel at the grace and power of the rowers training on the river. I arrived first with a friend and we stayed in the separate cottage, it felt like living in the trees! After 3 weeks the family began arriving and we moved down into the main house. With gathering areas and places to go for a little quiet and privacy everyone did find their niche! The kids loved the fresh off the tree bananas, mangos, and avocados. A top of the line outdoor grill served up steaks and burgers for more relaxed meals. Rarely, if ever, were the TV's turned on!! Our all time favorite place to eat has always been Cafe Hale'iwa, best breakfasts on the island, a hamburger unrivaled, and now dinner served on Wed., Thurs, Fri, and Sat. On the weekends ONLY they make the best Eggs Benedict EVER! The Hale'iwa farmers market, located in Waiamea Park is worth a weekly stop, get a good lunch ( try Wendy's) homemade jams and locally grown fruits and veggies. The Shrimp trucks, near the Cafe are a must visit. For the best homemade breads and sandwiches try the Waialua Bakery located near the Malama market. For a sunset drink Jamison's is the place, menu has gone down a bit, but for drinks at sunset it has one of the best views. Want pizza? Go the couple extra minutes to Boston Pizza just across the road from Schofield Barracks. By the pie or the slice they're the best on the island! The spirit of aloha lives on at Hale M?lie E Muliwai (Tranquil House by the river). Our ohana will treasure our time here, while we look forward to returning.

Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
The property was well described and was presented in a clean and tidy manner. The owners were very helpful during our negations and when we arrived. Its not resort quality accommodation but it is quite comfortable for a large group as it provides good communal spaces as well as personal spaces. I would recommend the property to those who like good quality standard accommodation. It nice and handy to Halewia town and beach by car or foot. Haleiwa has a good selection of shops and restaurants as well as being close to the attractions of the beautiful North Shore. I'd recommend you try the food from Dat Cajun Guy who has a food van opposite McDonalds.
