We Stayed here for a few nights and I would highly recommend this charming riverside house. On arrival we were met by the houses Guardian who assured we had everything we needed, the house was beautiful set in stunning gardens that meet the river. Beds were very comfortable and the house itself was very well equiped with everything we could think of. We were with 5 teenagers who loved the ping pong table, (great idea) Sauna the fact that we could tube down the river Good selection of Dvd,s for the one rainy night we had and the acces to the internet. This was the nicest break we have had in Guatemala helped by hector the Guardian organising all of our trips and transport and making sure in general that we had everything we needed. We will be returning!! Thank you for everything!! What an amazing, beautiful place! You can literally float down the river in inner tubes from the caves right to the house - awesome! Lovely house with every comfort you need. And Hector the guardian is great, he set up everything for us and made it all so easy, got tubes for us, arranged a pick-up to semuc, heated up the sauna... We LOVE La Poza!!! Me and my husband travelled in Guatemala for 3 weeks, and over all our trip to Lanquin and Semuc Champey was our best. We felt like we´d got off the tourist trail and seen a little more of the real Guatemala. Lanquin gets lots of tourist nowadays, but by staying at La Poza, we felt like we were away from all the tourism for a little while. The house is such a peaceful spot, the birds, the river, tubing back in the evening. We loved having a sauna, then jumpimg in the river, and finishing it off with a beer on the balcony. The house had all we needed, and we felt it was very comfortable, for being in such a remote area. We´d heard that the trip out there was difficult, but found that the 2 hours from Coban was very enjoyable and pretty. We must say that Hector made us feel like we could ask for help at any time, he even organized our transport to Semuc and to do the tubes.. which we did 3 times...... loved it so much. Semuc Champey should not be missed if you have the time.. world class spot. To be honest in our old age we try and stay in higher star hotels, but having said that we really enjoyed the house. The beds were comfortable and the showers pretty nice. We felt like teenagers again on a romantic adventure. We didn´t expect too much for the price, but knew it was the most comfortable place in Lanquen, so we booked it. It really was more than we expected, and we would have liked to have stayed another night, but it was already booked. We took private transport in a mini bus from Antigua, which worked out well. The last few km to lanquin are pretty bumpy, but not so bad... beautiful frive in from Coban though, stunning as the sun goes down.Thanks for taking the effort to provide this service in Lanquen, best of luck to you and your family. We had a fantastic time in Lanquin and at La Poza Guest house. We didn´t expect such comfort before arriving at the house, especially for the price. We were 4 adults and 3 kids looking to get off the beaten track on our visit to Guatemala. We´d heard that Semuc Champey was an incredible spot, and found this house on VRBO. Semuc Champey and the various caves were the high light of our trip, and La Poza gave us a great base from which to explore the area. Matt, the owner was really helpful in helping us plan our trip and even organized the transport from Panajachel for us all. You could tell he had pride in his house and really wanted us to have a great time as if we were his non paying guests. The house had comfortable beds, a really well equipped kitchen, decent showers, and plenty of hidden spots to chill in and have fun (the kids played pingpong for hours). We really wanted to stay a few more days before carrying on with our trip. A real bonus was the guy who looked after the house (and us), I feel bad to say I forgot his name, but with our poor spanish we feel he was genuinly a great guy and it was importnat to him too that we had a great time. Thumbs up all round!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children.

Actually, I can not remember the exact dates that we stayed. Who carries a calendar in the jungle? I love this house. It is like a fairytale cottage, taking a break from the stresses of fairytale life by parking itself in the tropics for a bit. The owners, Matt and Jeroma, are outgoing and gracious, and their daughters are adorable. My daughter and I were cracking up over the oldest child-certainly very self assured! I felt that they sincerely wanted my family to enjoy their home, and they made us feel welcome throughout the stay. There was plenty of room for our party, which totaled 4 adults and one 12 year old. The kitchen is great, as are the bathrooms. We spent very little time inside, as there is so much decking and outdoor living space. There are decks around the house and at the river, a separate seating area further along the riverfront, a beach, a sauna, a ping pong table, and beautiful gardens. Hector was wonderful. He brought us to the taking off place for tubing (Holy Cow was that hilariously awesome!), hooked up some hanging on thing to a tree by the river so that no one floated away by accident, snuck me a few bulbs for my garden, and actually came out with a shovel to dig up worms for us so that we could go fishing. He brought his family to say goodbye to us. What a gem! Matt and my husband spoke by phone many times, before, during and after the visit. He is very accessable and accomodating. I was very sad to leave, and also very sad that my teenage sons couldn't join us. La Poza is wonderful! The house is beautiful, as is the garden. Right on the river, and you can float from the famous caves in an inner tube right to the house. Hector the guardian makes everything easy - he arranged the tubes for us, also the ride up to semuc champey. There's a sauna right next to the river. The kitchen has everything you need. We were 4 adults and 5 teenagers and the house accommodated us easily. I have stayed numerous times at this house, And I have never needed anything more than offered! than some ice cream in the freezer and an iced drink on the patio over looking the river. The owner Matt, goes above and beyond to help your stay be perfect in every way. Thanks! and the manager Hector a local guy is super friendly and helpfull. The beds are cushy and the pillows plush. the kitchen equipment is practically new. The cats are super friendly and well taken care of. I enjoyed the river Surfing, that was a New experience for us. There are not a lot of pictures but the Gardens are full with various tropical plants and flowers. There are hammocks and different sitting areas, so we share the house we all usually find a private spot to chill and enjoy the blue mountains, sunsets, the herons flying up river.. The river is born just upstream so the water clean,clear and blue, a chilly entrance but refreshing on the sunny Lanquin days. Semuc Champey 10 km. away which makes for a fabulous drive and getaway. We floated down the river on tubes right to our front door! There are a few restaurants in town, with simple local food.. But we suggest loading up on goods in Coban. Anyway WE HIGHLY enjoy our stays here, and can't say much against it for the price. About the owner: I am originally from England, but left to travel and work in Latin America 16 years ago when i was 24. After travelling and working as a guide and English teacher all over Latin America I decide to move to Lanquin to co develop a well known Backpackers hostel in Lanquin, which I left after over 10 years . During my time developing the hostel I also built La Poza Riverside Guesthouse as my personal home. I now live in Panajachel at Lake Atitlan with my wife and two young daughters, so rent the house in Lanquin for tourists wanting to visit Semuc Champey. We also have a house in Panajachel, near the Lake that we rent for visitors to Panajachel.
Why the Owner Chose Lanquin:
The house was my personal house that I built over 6 years ago. I moved to Panajachel by Lake Atitlan where my wife lived for 12 years and where we base ourselves with our two daughters. We then decided to rent La Poza as a vacation rental for families and small groups who want their own house for their vacation.

The house gives you the oportunity to 'switch off', and 'get away from it all'. The constant sound of the river, the peace of the area and the nature allows you to relax and spend quality time with your companions, but be near enough to the attractions of Lanquin to enjoy a fun vacation with adventure, nature and even fiesta at the nearby hostels.
