Great beach vacation option!
Great beach vacation option!

Let's start with full disclosure. This was our first true beach vacation and the weather was average at best. So, I have little to compare it to. However, I appreciate when people leave reviews and I will do the same. First, the building this unit is in is about as close to the beach as you'll get. It is on the second floor, which was slightly disappointing simply because we had hoped to be able to walk out the back door to the beach. In this case, you have to walk out of the back side of the building and around to the beach. This is NOT inconvenient at all, just a point of fact. It wouldn't have been a deal breaker if we had known beforehand. The unit isn't huge...obviously a 1 bedroom. But space was maximized and the back, screened in porch was great for just relaxing and watching/listening to the ocean. There is a pool at Port O' Call, which was nice. It isn't heated, though, and there was no hot tub option. Smoking is not prohibited...just FYI. So, while the unit(s), like this one, are smoke free, we did have someone come in on the first floor whose smoke from their porch wafted up to ours. For people who don't smoke, this was a mild irritant. The resort/gated community, Wild Dunes, is enormous. We didn't get much of an opportunity to explore, but you could easily rent a bike and spend all day riding around to different areas. Food options on the island are limited, but Acme Cantina was superb! Our family of 5 loved every one of our 3 meals there. The location of this resort is fantastic. We got to downtown Charleston in about 10-15 minutes or so. You can also travel to Sullivan's Island to explore the fort area, etc. This is definitely a laid back sort of place. I would highly recommend it. The owner is absolutely great to work with. I would not hesitate to stay here again. The few things I noted keep it from getting 5 stars along with some items about the unit/rental group. The rental group (Wyndham, I think) were generally pleasant, but not overly friendly. We ran out of toilet paper because we had been using it for tissues (which were not in the room when we arrived). Their initial statement was that they don't provide additional toilet paper and there should have been tissues in the room. Ultimately, they did provide some from "their stash". Again, all-in-all, a very nice place to stay. Don't let some of our negative experiences deter you as I thought our overall experience was very good.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Hi Tony, I appreciate your comments. I am sorry you were disappointed that our condo is on the second floor; our listing states that we are on the second floor and the video tour that I send all inquiries shows the spectacular ocean views and it shows the fact that we are not on the ground floor. In our opinion, it is optimal to be on the second floor because this keeps a great amount of the dirt and sand out of our home which is inevitably blown in or tracked in on the first floor and it helps keep the condo clean. First floor units also have a much worse view of the ocean; it is difficult to see the ocean at all from some of the first floor units because of the dunes. Views of the ocean from the second floor are much better. Our condo is indeed a one bedroom condo with maximized space. We have 800 square feet of living space and there is easily room for five people to sleep comfortably. Just to be clear for any future guests, smoking is prohibited in our condo. We have small children and strive to keep our condo super clean. We can't control what neighbors do but you can rest assured that there won't be any smoke inside our home. One of the perks of Wild Dunes is its private exclusive nature. Because it is a private resort, the dining options in Wild Dunes are owned and operated by Wild Dunes. However, as you stated, there are some great dining options just outside of Wild Dunes in Isle of Palms such as Acme Cantina. Some AWESOME restaurants are just down the road at Sullivan's Island (5-10 minute drive) and Charleston is only a 15 minute drive or so. Thank you for the kind comments about it being great to work with me. We take meticulous care of our condo and do everything we can to provide the best vacation experience for our guests. I am sorry there was some sort of misunderstanding with the property management company and I wish you had contacted me. I do live out of state but I am only a phone call away and am usually able to solve any sort of problem that arises. The property management company we use is outstanding (as past guest reviews have stated) and we were meticulous when we chose them; I suspect their initial response to you was just some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication on their behalf. I sincerely hope you will choose to stay with us again and help us earn the five star rating from you! Remember that return guests are also entitled to a discount. Thanks for staying with us! Paul

Our stay in this condo. on Isle of Palms was perfect! Beautiful condo with the view of the ocean being very, very enjoyable. We spent a lot of time sitting on the deck. The owner in e-mails with him was very helpful and very friendly. Also, Resort Quest, the Management Company, was very good to work with, answered our questions, gave us good directions, etc. We truly enjoyed our stay and enjoyed driving into Charleston a few days as well. I would definitely rent this condo. again and also recommend it to others.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

This was our first trip to Isle of Palms. My husband and I couldn't have been more pleased with this lovely oceanfront condo! First off, it literally sits right on the beach. The views are breathtaking from everyroom. Every morning we woke to spectacular sunrises over the ocean. The condo is beautifully furnished, clean and well maintained. The owner had new windows installed the week before we arrived and the living room furniture had been recently re-upholstered. We appreciated the wifi which worked great. There is a wonderful screened in porch accessible by both the livingroom and bedroom. The kitchen is small but well-equiped. We cooked in several nights enjoying fresh local seafood. We loved the atmosphere of the Wild Dunes community. Everyone seems active; either riding bikes, playing tennis, golfing, walking or running. We visited Charleston several times which is a 20-25 minute drive depending on traffic. The owner was very helpful and reponsive to all our questions by email. It is evident he carefully maintains his property and genuinely cares that his guests enjoy their stay. My husband and I plan to return to Isle of Palms on an annual basis and would definitely stay in this lovely condo again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

This property exceeded all reasonable expectations. Seriously. We were thrilled. The floor plan is designed to allow an ocean view from every room except the toilet. Bed and living room furniture were clean, comfortable and in good repair. The owner was exceptionally kind and helpful when I contacted him on arrival with what turned out to be a dumb question. Everything was clean and in working order. The elevator made checking in & out a breeze. The unit is perfect for a couple seeking a romantic getaway. I could go on and on but here's the bottom line: I will rent this condo again next time I am in the Charleston SC area.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Just a short note to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay. You most certainly did not misrepresent the quality of this this condo or sell it short. Everything was just great and we had a wonderful time. We have stayed in the area several times and this was one of the finest. We are already talking about next year.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We were able to secure a two night last minute stay and had a fantastic time. The management company had the condo ready early and called us right away to check in. The Port o Call pool was nice to have as well, especially since we arrived early from Charleston. The best feature is the patio/balcony area with view of the water. We decided not to leave the condo to dine out and made a seafood feast to eat outside with fresh fish and shrimp from the local seafood market. Having the kitchen available was a big plus and the patio is screened so no worries about any bugs. The king size bed was comfy and the shower was spacious. Everything was clean and in working order. There is no cell service from AT&T at the condo so it was great having the wifi to keep in touch via email on my phone. We can't wait to return next year!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you Jennifer! We are so happy that you had a nice stay at our condo. We do everything we can to accommodate early arrivals, and I am glad that you were able to check in early. The Port O Call pool is very conveniently located for guest use. A nice grill is available for use by the pool also. We definitely agree - the patio/balcony is one of the condo's best features. The condo is truly directly on the ocean, and is as close to the ocean as you can get! Having a seafood feast from a local market sounds like a wonderful idea. Should you decide to dine out next time, I can recommend many wonderful restaurants in the area. I'm glad you had no worries with bugs - we have small children and we do everything possible to keep the condo as clean as possible and bug free. Thanks again for staying with us and please come again soon!

This condo was the best place we have stayed, the pictures do not do it justice!! Large bedroom, large shower, and our son loved the day bed! The complex was great, the beach was peaceful, and check in was so easy! The owner was so easy to work with. We would love to come back!! You will not go wrong with this one!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you Misty! We are so happy that you were pleased with our condo and enjoyed your stay. We also think that the pictures do not do our condo justice - you have to see it to believe it! The large bedroom and shower provide lots of convenience. The day bed is a special feature that our condo has that not many condos offer - it provides a comfortable extra place to sleep. We use it every time we stay at the condo and our kids love it too. We are also pleased that check in was easy for you. We strive to make the reservation and check in process as simple as possible. It is your vacation and we want you to enjoy every minute of it. Please come and stay with us again!

This is a great condo in a great location. The photos don't do this place justice! Great decor inside and the screened in porch is fantastic for sitting and watchng the beach. The views at night as the moon comes up over the ocean are spectacular! I would definitely recommend this place and we will definitely stay here again!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you Sherry! We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay. Some of our best memories at the condo have been sitting on the deck and enjoying the view of the moon over the ocean at night! When it is dark outside and the waves are crashing against the shore, it feels as if you are only a step away from the ocean. Please come back and stay with us again. Remember that all return visitors get a discount!

About the owner: I think the thing that my wife wishes the most that she could change about me is the fact that I am not from Charleston. She loves everything about Charleston - its charm, its people, its restaurants - and who could forget - the beach! I can't say that I blame her. We can't live in Charleston but the next best thing we could do was pick the perfect second home for us in the area. This is it and we would love to share it with you.
Why the Owner Chose Port O'Call:
Choosing this condo was a no brainer. It is beautiful, has every amenity one could ask for, and has the advantage of being part of the private Wild Dunes complex. Every moment we spend here truly feels like a vacation and we are confident you will have the same experience.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
The most obvious benefit of our condo is that it is directly oceanfront. You can't get any closer! Enjoy the private Wild Dunes beaches - no crowded beaches here like you will get at Folly. The condo is fully furnished and equipped with everything you will need for an enjoyable vacation. The options of activities available at Wild Dunes seem endless. Of course, Charleston and everything it has to offer is only a short 15 mile drive away. So, after a day in the sun when you decide you want a world class dining experience, it is readily available as well.
