There were 11 of us here and this cabin had more than enough room for all of us. Had a great time canoeing, paddle boarding, even used the raft. The hike around the lake was beautiful. The Great Horned Owls made us feel right at home. Thanks for everything- your cabin and property are amazing. Hope to be back soon.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Challenging at SW corner. Additional challenges - stop occasionally look into the forest. Try to find - ponderosa with 5 trunks, the white queen and her ladies, an example of old growth Ponderosa, and the pick-up stick clearing. Use your eyes and your imagination. Oops, forgot the eleven council circle. Have fun!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Perfect weather, glorious mornigs, great side trips, lovely evenings. The trek around Lake Tumalo was just challenging enough. Kids loved capturing "millions" of tree frogs and grasshoppers. Conoeing and duck hunting, butterfies, dragonflies, deer and a Great Horned Owl also thrilled. This is truly"the last lonely house" in Rivendel where all was perfect for doing or doing nothing.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We absolutely loved this cabin! The rooms were nice and spacious, both upstairs and downstairs living areas are comfortable and well suited for a crowd. Each room was perfect, the beds comfortable, everything spotless. Every window had a great view. Beautiful, quiet, private location. The kids loved canoeing on the lake and the adults enjoyed the hot tub and the view from the porch. The nearby Tumalo Falls are a good hike and well worth the effort to see. This cabin would be a great get-away for writers and others who would like to get away from it all in style.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers.

This is a beautiful, extremely clean, very well appointed, and comfortable cabin in a tranquil and beautiful location on Tumalo Lake. The property has a walking trail around the lake, canoes, and SO many stars at night! Being nestled in the National Forest, we were greeted each morning by a small family of ducks and each evening by a few different kinds of owls. The kids never tired of exploring, looking for pacific tree frogs, red-spotted Oregon garter snakes (only saw the 1 juvenile snake, but the kids kept searching), and watching for the deer who would visit every other day or so. This cabin is a terrific home base for many other outdoor activities in the Bend area, but is remote enough to allow us to just hang out and listen to nothing man-made. This cabin didn't have any televisions, and we're so glad for that (I hope they never add them). The wi-fi network was enough to be able to get news and research activities online, and lack of cell service kept the real world otherwise at bay (the cabin does have a land-line). The owner was great to work with (stopping by almost daily, responding quickly to phone calls and emails - The property has a history as a resort area some 50 years ago, and we had questions about the few reminders you see here and there around the lake). The owner also has the place stocked with everything you need for a comfortable and pleasant stay, more so than most places in Bend! We plan to stay here again!Recommended for: People with disabilities, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

We recently had a family get together and stayed at Creekside Cabin on Tumalo Lake. What an absolutely fantastic place for a family vacation! During the day, our kids had a great time canoeing / paddle boarding and playing in the woods while the adults enjoyed the epic mountain biking trails and relaxing on the porch. The house is beautiful and well designed. We had 10 family members of all ages and everyone felt like they had plenty of space. We have rented many great homes in the Bend area, though this one with the spectacular house, lake and virtually unlimited forest land is truly in a class by itself!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: Bill, after a prior career in business consulting, has been active in real estate development and rentals for nearly 30 years. He is excited to finally apply his first degree in Forestry to the 640 acres of trees at Tumalo Lake. Tracy, along with her interior design and 'Inn Keeper' responsibilities, is a Global Director in the Clinical Research field
Why the Owner Chose Bend:
Bill & Tracy, during a 2005 visit to Bend, fell in love with the Tumalo Lake property and the original cabins which had been built in the 1930s. After moving to Bend in 2007, several years were spent obtaining necessary land use and building permits and trenching 1 1/2 miles to bring in electricity and phone. Construction began in 2009. The Hillside Cabin was completed in October 2011. The Creekside Cabin was completed in June, 2012. The Lakeside East Cabin is expected to be completed by July, 2013. Eventually, an additional cabin and a central lodge will be built.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Central Oregon, and Bend, Oregon in particular, are well reknown for both Summer and Winter sports. Enthusiasts from near and far visit for hiking, biking (road and mountain), skiing (Nordic and Alpine), snow shoeing, boating, fly fishing, rock climbing, etc. Tumalo Lake Lodge is ideally situated in the middle of the nationally known 'Phil's Trail' mountain biking trail system. In Winter, these and other trails and shelters form an extensive snow shoeing/x-country trail network. Tumalo Falls (97 feet tall) is a 3-4 mile hike away. Tumalo Creek, 2 miles away, affords fly fishing opportunities. While staying at Tumalo Lake you are staying on a private square mile of forested land surrounded by the Deschutes National Forest but still only 12 miles to Bend.
January 4, 2013--There is currently 3-4 feet of fresh snow on the ground! Guests have been breaking trails in all directions with X-country skis and snowshoes. Families with kids have given their sleds a good run for their money also.
