We had 4 adults and 1 child sleeping in this home and it worked out wonderfully. Each day we had 10 people total in the home and it never felt cramped. Great space! The living space heated up nicely, but the 2 main bedrooms got chilly. I'd advise bringing an electric heater, which thankfully we did! Julieann did say she had an extra if needed, so that was very nice! She also left us a bottle of wine, cereal, oatmeal, milk, and OJ! Very thoughtful! Parking can be an issue, since it's on-street only and the home sits up on top of the road. Not convenient for elderly, or in a rainstorm, but worked out for us! Location was also great! Right downtown!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners.

This was a great house to stay as we could walk to every and it was the break we needed while our house was being re carpet. Very comfortable and the owners are wonderful. Planning to stay again during the holidays as we will be able to do Christmas shopping without fighting the crowds.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My family and I greatly enjoyed staying at this house for labor day weekend. Everything was great from the comfortable beds to the close proximity to downtown. I really appreciate the fact that Julie even left instant oatmeal and popular cereals that came in handy for those late night munchies. The downside, parking is on the street and you must take stairs to get up to the main sidewalk, making loading and unloading items from our car a bit of a hassle. The bathroom is between the back bedroom and the dining room and the doors dont have locks. Also, the neighbors decided to hammer away at 2 am leaving us a bit startled when youre in the dead of night. Other than that, the house is great.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners.
Owner response: Thank you for your helpful comments. I am sorry for your 2 am disturbance. I am unaware of any building projects in the area. You were a pleassure to have. Hope you will visit us again. Julie Ann

Our family of 6 stayed at Julieann's over Memorial weekend. The location is fantastic to just be able to park and walk around Grass Valley. We went with the intention of visiting the Empire Mine State Historical Site which is a short drive away. The house is located just a few blocks up from the main shops. The house was clean, the kitchen had a full sized oven and refrigerator. The sheets and comforters were clean and nice. Plus Julieann even stocked some popular breakfast cereals for our arrival. The house has two adjoining family rooms (separated by a french door) one with a small TV and VCR, and the other with a sitting area. I liked this because when it was time to wind down the kids could watch a video and I could read a hiking book (which Julieann left for me to read) to see what we were going to do the next day. The only cons of the property were: two people in our family are quite tall (6'5" and 6'2") and they both hit their heads on a short doorway, and the bathroom is located between the kitchen and a back bedroom so if someone is sleeping late they are stuck in the back bedroom until the bathroom is no longer occupied (someone in the shower). But these are things that can be mitigated - duck and don't sleep late. The kitchen table was big enough for all six of us. Usually places sleep six but the dining area does not accomodate everyone, Julieann's did, plus for nice weather there was a picnic table in back. Julieann was very helpful and responsive. We could not get the heater working on an unseasonably cold night and she came over to get it started. And like I wrote earlier, when I mentioned where we would be going she brought over a book that she thought I would find helpful during our stay. I would recommend this property to friends and relatives, but not to people with difficulties on hills or stairs. The parking was on-street, we never had a problem finding a spot, but the street is below house level (cuts down on street noise) so there are stairs to get to the sidewalk and stairs to get into the house. We enjoyed our stay at Julieann's.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: This wonderful family was a pleasure to have. We do have a door not to standard height going into the bathroom. It does not effect the height of the bathroom. This was orriginally the room for the cook stove on the 1896 county plans. Later in 1906 changed to a inside bathroom. We kept the door to keep as much historical parts to the home that we could. It is a 140 yr old home so there is a cute quirk here and there but we find that charming. I hope you will too.

I visited Grass Valley with my fiancé and stayed here. It was amazing and had charm, personality, and the feel of home. It also offered all the conveniences of your own home, lots of room if we had friends or family with us, and our own ability to entertain those whom we knew in the area. There are stairs leading to the property and off street parking, but they are not bad, a small inconvenience to be exact for such a great location to literally everything and the amount of space we had (not to mention pet friendly for our four-legged children) We will definitely be coming back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners.

About the owner: Julieann fell in love with this house when it was in shambles and has restored it to the lovely house we enjoy today. It is fun to sit on porch and watch the bike races and parades. We live locally on a ranch but have purchased this house to be our 'someday house' when we retire and want to be within walking distance to the store, movies, restaurants and shops. We have lived in Grass Valley for 24 years and fell in love with the town just driving through. We bought a house that day and drove home and gave our jobs notice and moved up here a month later and never looked back. I think you will love this beautiful town as we did. Come visit and see. You won't want to leave.
Why the Owner Chose Grass Valley:
Can just walk to all festivities, wine tasteing rooms, shops and festivals without the crowd being on your doorstep. This is the place for active people who want to have a great vacation.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Walking distance to stores, shopping, movies, live theater, restaurants, churches and bowling alley. Local activities in summer and holidays are just a block or two away so can enjoy them without driving.
