This charming apartment (small house, really) is everything its advertisement suggests. We shared the enthusiasm of our hosts' other guests. One of our favorite aspects of our stay was the lovely view from the front step over the Berkeley Hills and the water of the bay to the city of San Francisco. At night the city's lights twinkled in the distance. In the morning the city was bathed in the morning's light. Our stay was truly an entirely positive and memorable experience.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

I agree with all of the other well described compliments from previous reviewers. We had a delightful stay and only regret that we were not there longer. We especially enjoyed the comfortable beds and linens, the beautiful gardens, and breakfast on the back patio. Plenty of places to walk horizontal to the hill to see the amazing views of San Francisco and we also hiked into Tilden Park and around Lake Anza. Berkeley is a very busy city and it was so nice to come up the hill to a quiet spot.So convenient. It just couldn't have been nicer! Elaine made restaurant suggestions--- we loved Bistro Liason where we had a nice French dinner and The Cheeseboard ---fabulous gourmet pizza---only one type made daily---lines a block long but quick and worth waiting for. We should have stayed longer.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

The apartment was exactly as it was pictured. Well furnished with all of the everyday necessities provided. It was clean and spacious with a lovely garden. Be prepared for the steepness of the roads in the area; we were very glad that our rental car had the agility and power to navigate the roads. It was an easy commute to San Francisco and Berkeley locations. It was comfortable and convenient.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thanks for the kind and complimentary review! The Berkeley Hills are indeed known for their curvy sometimes narrow steep streets. Our house is located at the top of the hills on Creston Road, which is wide and flat where the house is situated. Being up so high in the hills makes for some stunning panoramic views and gorgeous neighborhood walks. We feel the trade off of the short (3-4 minute) drive up the steep hill is well worth the tranquility, beauty and charm of the neighborhood.

Elaine and Tom's property is topnotch - modern, clean, and full of helpful amenities, especially in the kitchen. The pictures are 100% accurate, an assurance that what you see IS really what you get. Without hesitation, I would stay here again the next time I'm visiting Berkeley. It's a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of the urban center; yet, only a few miles away from downtown..Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

We really enjoyed staying here. The apartment was very nice. It was clean and very roomy. There is a park close by where you can hike. The only downside is that it is up a long hill and it not near much, so if you're into quiet it's great. We found a way to wind down the hill instead of going up and down Marin Avenue which is pretty much a straight climb up and pretty steep. It was a short drive to the main area where there are shops and restaurants, but not within walking distance (unless you like climbing steep hills.) The owners are very nice and they even provided a reference book with restaurants, parks and things to do in the area. The apartment had everything we needed, even a clothes washer and dryer. Lovely home.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our family stayed at this property for almost two weeks and it was just perfect. The spacious cottage is located in a beautiful and quiet neighborhood in The Berkeley Hills with plenty of easy street parking. The owners were incredibly friendly, helpful and considerate. They thought of everything to make our stay comfortable and easy. When we arrived, Elaine had even checked out books from the library for our 3 year old daughter and added our cell numbers to the AT&T microcell to improve our cell phone reception. The entire property is clean and well stocked with cooking utensils, towels, soap, shampoo, sheets, blankets, etc...everything you could think of. We would definitely recommend this vacation rental to anyone visiting the Berkeley area!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway.

We highly recommend this rental and plan to return. The location in the Berkeley Hills was convenient to UCB and surrounds by car. (The purpose of our trip: pick up children from the university.) The house was nestled in a lovely garden designed by the owner and beautifully maintained. The house itself is professionally constructed in the craftsman style (by the owners) and is spacious w/peaked ceilings, wood floors, lots of natural light and updated kitchen. The fixtures, utensils and linens were excellent quality and appreciated My husband and I thouroughly enjoyed the comfortable patio in the warm weather and caught up on business and reading. A minor issue we had was our AT&T cellular service was spotty; other cellular services may be perfectly fine. All in all this is a very clean and charming accommodation with responsive and helpful owners. Thank you for a lovely stay and we hope to return in the near future.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you, Cecilia and Doug, for your kind thoughtful review of our flat. Glad you enjoyed your stay and we're looking forward to your next visit. Sorry to hear that you had trouble with your cell phone reception. We have an M Cell tower which facilitates AT&T reception. I didn't realize we had to add each number to access service since I thought any phone in the vicinity of the tower would automatically work with it. So much for my tech skills! This is simple to do, so please remind me next time you come. Also, I have heard that Verizon does get better service in Berkeley. Thanks again for your review.
