Owner info
Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: I am an artist-painter and my husband is a doctor. We have four teenage children ,a dog and three cats! Our primary home is in downtown Montreal, so we love to get away to the lake to have a retreat from the busy city. We also have a condo in Playa del Carmen ,Mexico that we rent as well. Our house in Montreal is a very old historic home filled with antiques from both our families. When I decorated the lake house, I wanted to create a bright, modern environment ,minimal and practical. A collection of my paintings adorn the white pine walls , while most of the furniture is by Italian designers...I love the fact that when I am cooking in the kitchen, I feel like I am outside watching the sunset, thanks to the wall of windows on the lake side...I know you will love this house and all it has to offer.
Why the Owner Chose Alburg:
We bought this house primarily because my husband loves to sail, and Lake Champlain is a great sailing lake ,with good wind and lots of space! We sold a cottage we had in the Hamptons ,NY, in order to get closer to Montreal for the kids and grandparents and to have a great place to moor our sailboat...The location is so convenient for road biking as well...The islands are fun to explore and there are many quiet roads with little traffic .
we are also centrally located to two airports-Montreal(Dorval Airport -1:15 min away) and Burlington Airport -45 min from the house...
The Unique Benefits at this House:
As I said earlier , we love to sail, swim, hike, bike, fish, cook gourmet dinners, entertain guests and we love to explore...Just last summer while biking we found a great place to buy homemade pies. The woman runs a small business out of her home on a small country road. So we made a friend and now know where to go , just nearby, to get yummy pies-strawberry rhubarb is my favorite. Also ,right in town is an organic farm, where you could stop for fresh veggies and fruits, and what a great selection they have, seasonal ,of course.
Not too far,10 min car ride, is our favorite Italian restaurant on Ill La Motte, a very charming little island where you could visit St Annes Shrine and a public sandy beach. In the summer many ferries are running to take passengers to the different islands in the vicinity. You could find nature preserves and hiking trails all around this area.
