At Hale Lalala we offer a luxury house on the Big Island at a reasonable price! Break away from the hustle and bustle of your routine to experience a more laid-back ocean lifestyle on the healing coast of the Island of Hawaii.

Hale Lalala is situated on the Hilo side of the Big Island in the small community of Kaimu. Our home is within walking distance to lava viewing, the historic Painted Church, Kalapana Café, the Kaimu General Store, Uncle Roberts Kava Bar, Wednesday Farmer’s Market, and the Kalapana & Kaimu black sand beaches. We are a few minutes drive to Kehena black sand beach, natural steam vents, the wonderful Ahalanui warm springs and the beautiful Kapoho tide pools, where you can enjoy world class snorkeling.

Our home, which sleeps up to 8, consists of 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, 1 King, 1 Queen and 1 Full in each of the bedrooms. There is also a Queen hide-a-bed in the Den. Hale Lalala is perfect for couples, families and small, group retreats. Combined with Hale Tapa (VRBO #382253) next door, we can host small groups up to 16 people.

Additionally, we have a fully stocked kitchen, breakfast nook, formal dining area, living room, large outside deck with BBQ, as well as a private outside shower. We have a washer and dryer for your use.

One half block away is a warm water pool that offers the services of warm water massage as well as water yoga three times per week. Enjoy a 90-minute massage in a nearby oceanfront Bali hut. Sunbathe, enjoy sunrise over the ocean, sunset over the mountain, or have a bonfire on a semi-private black sand beach a block from the house.

Hale Lalala is the perfect place to relax and enjoy your Big Island vacation or focus on a spirit-rejuvenating retreat.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions you might have, or let us know if there is anything that we can do to make your stay more comfortable. Mahalo and Aloha!

Our staff at this location was less than 1 hour. We arrived to find the place filthy. Uncleaned restrooms, garbage on the stairs, huge roaches, unclean kitchen with dirty appliances, refrigerator was unplugged and must have been for some time because the smell was awful. bird poop on the walls, and the smell of urine in the couch. We had NO phone service in the home. The owner is a very kind man and immediately offered to reimburse our stay. This place needs replaced furniture and a complete and total professional deep cleaning before renting to anyone else

I let out a sigh of relief as I pull up to Dwight's property, pausing to breathe in fresh air and marvel at the exotic landscape. The space has all the amenities I need: a clean space big enough for yoga, a quaint balcony, cozy kitchen, comfy beds and hot showers. I feel at home in such a lush and natural environment. The ocean is 'oh-sooooooo-close' and Puna's happening black sand beach and warm pools are a short drive away. I explore other areas of the island including Kona's famous snorkeling beaches where dolphins and turtles are common, Waipio valley in the north, Green Sand beach in the south, sustainable, off grid farms like La Akea Permaculture Community, I realize the rental is in the PERFECT location for my taste. Be sure to visit the nearby Saturday Space market in Seaside which is rich with organic, colorful exotic fruits, raw superfood creations, local honey, and organic prepared foods. Santos sells falafels wraps made from scratch that are out of this world. The market is a wonderful place to talk to locals and get to know the area.

(stayed 8 nights / December 2012) The house has a very warm energy and had everything we needed. Hale La La La welcomed me with a slice of what it would be like if I already had my Hawaiian dream home. If you’re looking for a sterile-modern style rental with sharp edges, this hale isn’t for you. I recommend this hale if you’re into open spaces, love to be surrounded with lots of greenery, fresh fruit, and enjoy the sounds of nature. There are lemon and orange trees bearing delicious fruits. There are two wonderful cats that guard the house (they stay outside). Remember to thank them! Hale LA LA LA is fully furnished and the kitchen has a great breakfast nook. Of course you can also enjoy morning/afternoon/night on the huge deck outside. We were out there much of the time; eating, sunning or just hanging out in between activities. The hale has plenty of linens, towels and bedding, as well as a great washer/dryer. I loved the outdoor shower and third bathroom downstairs. There is a sun room with great windows that flood the room with light, without getting too hot (as wonderfully paradoxical as the Big Island itself). A magnificent spot for painting, reading, yoga, and napping. There is a modest TV there as well with a VCR and DVD player (combo). You may want to bring your own DVDs to round out your options, but there is a selection of movies there if your forget. The homeowner lives very nearby and was there for us if we had any questions. He even gave us a lift from the airport! Ask the owner (Dwight) about renting a car for your stay. It was extremely handy, and very reasonably priced! Long story short, I loved the hale, location, vibe, and the lovely well-tended heated watsu pool (just two doors down). This pool is absolutely fabulous to relax in after a long day of sun and fun as well as get a Watsu massage! I would recommend this hale to my friends and plan on returning again. Enjoy!

I rented Hale Lalala to offer myself some retreat time in Kalapana. The place is very well situated closed to nature, to the sole convenience store in Kalapana (Uncle Robert's is within walking distance) and nestled in a very private area and quite sunny micro-climate. The house is large, well-furbished, and very welcoming. The whole atmosphere was conducive for my writing project. For breaks, Aqua-yoga classes were held close-by, and Kalani is a short drive up the road. I also brought my own cycle and biked everywhere I needed to: markets, beaches, or just for exercise on the "Red road", one of best biking roads in Hawaii. I am already looking forward to going back!

"Wonderful Place!" We had a wonderful stay at Hale Lalala! The house is very large and comfortable with a great kitchen that has a large deck attached - a perfect place to enjoy a sunny breakfast. You can pick oranges right off the tree. The rooms are spacious and the furnishings quite nice. The owner is friendly and very helpful. The location could not have been better. You have easy access to the main highway to Pahoa and Hilo, you're very near the amazing painted church and the black sand beach - and just down the road is Uncle Robert's where there's a convenience store and Friday night gatherings with native music, great food and a large, friendly crowd. There's an easy stroll that crosses the lava field and takes you right down to the ocean where the panoramic views are spectacular. This remote part of the island is not for everyone, but for those seeking escape from the world of condominiums, boutiques and modern hotels, Hale Lalala provides a perfect resting place to explore the real Hawaii.

We stayed at the Hale Lalala for 4 days. It was an exceptionally relaxing and enjoyable time. Dwight made us feel at home and very comfortable. Short walk down private road to the old lava flow with ocean views and the bonfire pit and a short drive to the hot ponds and beach access. We would receommend staying here to all of our families and friends and would stay again ourselves.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
