Beaufort house description
I renovated this 200+ year-old property with much care over the last fifteen years, maintaining the original charm while bringing it up-to- date with modern amenities, and with the original heart pine flooring. The house itself is extremely relaxing to be in, with three porches, but the areas of Shackleford Banks and Cape Lookout, both national parks, are the real draw, whether you're looking for excellent fishing, shelling, secluded beaches, white sand, wild horses, a plethora of wildlife, all sorts of birds, museums, nearby access to deep-sea fishing charters, ten-minute ferries to the islands, round trip ten dollars... just tell them when you want to be picked up for your return. Beaufort has wonderful restaurants, park your car or boat and experience local fare or world-class meals. If you bring a boat, there's a neighborhood boat ramp about two hundred yards from the property, or use the free NC boat ramp just before the Harkers Island Bridge, only about a half mile away, and with plenty of parking for your vehicle and trailer. This is immediate access to a really great fishing area, whether you're going for mackerel or drum, flounder or bluefish. I've even caught octopus and eel. This is really one of the best fishing areas around, but there are so many other things to do as well, both for kids and adults. It's my favorite spot in the world, I don't think there's any place as relaxing on earth as the Cape Lookout National Seashore area.

- Shackleford Banks and Cape Lookout are Outer Banks Islands, both very close, and both accessible via numerous ferries from Harkers Island, a five to ten minute drive and approximately a ten minute boat ride. Shelling and fishing on these National Park islands is exceptional as there are no houses or condos allowed. They are both pristine islands. Only wildlife, including wild horses, inhabit these islands. A wonderful area to visit, but not if you want wall to wall people on every inch of the beach. I'd be surprised if you saw anyone at all but your family and wild horses on these National Park beaches. Truly exceptional beaches, the type you can normally only dream about visiting. ...moreless

Linda and Gary's Beaufort Vacation

We loved our stay in this house. We spent three weeks and we were still sad to leave. The house was clean, comfortable and offered plenty room. You will especially love the back porch and the upper balcony. We traveled almost everyday to local attractions: Ocracoke Island, Ft. Macon State Park, the water fronts of Beaufort and Morehead City, Shackleford and Cape Lookout Islands, and don't forget the quaint little town of Swansboro. Nearby outside waterfront eating was plentiful. Of course, if you go for the fishing, Harker's Island is the best. If you want someone to take you out to the islands, we recommend Capt. Jack on Harker's. We would recommend this house to any of our friends and relatives. The owner, Reid, was very pleasant and personable. He took great care to make our stay a very nice experience!

My absolute BEST beach experience! Everything you could want in a beach trip in one charming locale. The house was very homey and relaxing with its oversize porches and unique woodwork. A nice difference from the cookie-cutter style beach accomadations one usually finds. The house has tons of room to lounge about and plenty of privacy outside. We had a blast on our trip, fishing, boating to Shackleford Island, soaking up some sun, visiting the nearby Cape Lookout lighthouse and then cooking up our catch back at the house. Everything we did or needed was in close vicinity. You don't have to waste time driving around and tiring yourself out. We did a lot in just one weekend. Rex, our two young kids and myself were able to do something that interested us all. While Rex fished with our son James, Rachel and I explored Shackleford Island. To our delight we stumbled upon the famous horses which inhabit the island. As we watched the horses, the beach was almost deserted save for ourselves and the horses. We spent a few hours relaxing in the company of the horses, the gentle breeze and the peace and quiet. It is one of my favorite places I long to go to again and again. I recommend this Fisherman's Paradise experience highly, you WILL come away happy and relaxed.
