Imagine waking up in a home surrounded by trees but within sight of the water. Have your first cup of coffee on the deck while gazing at the ocean and experiencing the natural beauty of the coastside. Perhaps you'll see the pair of Red-tailed Hawks who nest in a neighboring tree during parts of the spring and summer, or the hummingbirds that frequent our terrace. Spend your morning exploring the forest and miles of hiking trails, or stroll down to the beach and world-class tide pools. Then, it's a 2 minute drive to Princeton Harbor with fresh seafood, restaurants and even kayaking! Or, maybe a 10 minute drive into Half Moon Bay for unique shopping and fantastic restaurants. But the adventure isn't over! Jump in your car and in no time at all you're in San Francisco enjoying the theater or any of its fantastic attractions. On the other hand, maybe you spend the entire day on the terrace, curled up with a book on the couch, or perhaps watching a movie downstairs in the private theater. This Moss Beach home is large, beautiful, tastefully-decorated and overlooks the stunning Pacific Coast near Half Moon Bay, California. It's only a short drive from SFO and convenient to San Francisco as well as wine country. We were in the area for a family wedding, there were a total of 9 people ranging in age from 72 down to 9 and everyone was thrilled with the accommodations. The house is well-appointed and was thoughtfully stocked with many more extras than we've encountered in any other vacation rental. As hosts, the owners are gracious and responsive. They were a pleasure to deal with from the initial inquiry to the final checkout. If it's ever my pleasure to vacation in the Half Moon Bay area again, this home would be my first choice. If you're looking at this place online and wondering if it could possibly be as nice as the pictures, I promise you, it's even better. The little town of Half Moon Bay has lots of cute shops and good restaurants. Our welcome party was held at the San Benito Ale House. There's a deli attached and beautiful gardens to eat in. The home made bread is to die for! The wedding itself was at Long Branch Saloon and Farms, a really fun place for a party.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

We are a group of women who travel together each year. We usually rent a house for a weekend stay and this is one of our very favorites. It is beautifully appointed and very comfortable. It is near restaurants and handy to Half Moon Bay for shopping. We loved the beautiful view and the spaciousness. A highlight was the movie theater where we all watched a movie one evening. The owner even provided snacks for us!!! We will definitely stay in this home again and will recommend it to friends and family.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Summing up our time in your wonderful home: Wow. We had a simply perfect weekend starting when we arrived on Friday afternoon and got the pleasure of watching an early-spring sunset over the Pacific while sipping wine from the comfy chairs in the living room. The house is so comfortable and well equipped: everything we needed and more. I particularly liked the kitchen and all the tools and equipment, something you don’t usually find in a guest rental. We all slept so deeply and soundly, the house is so wonderfully quiet and the beds are sink-into comfortable. What did we do? We went for a long walk through the magic forest, played on the rope swing, went past the fields on the other side of the forest and up the hill for an amazing panorama out over Half Moon Bay, you could really see the half moon. We indulged in the hot tub each day. We went down to Princeton/El Granada and walked through the harbor. We walked the coastal trail all the way into Half Moon Bay and back on an idyllic sunny day watching the hunting hawks and the scurrying rabbits and the crashing waves. We watched a pair of hawks building a nest at the top of a tree next door to the house. We spent a morning window shopping in Half Moon Bay. We barbecued steaks one night and tuna the next with fresh vegetables from the Farmer’s Market we came across on Sunday in Princeton. We lazed on the patio, sipping wine, enjoying the sun, reading and enjoying the music from the excellent Sonos system. We had perfect weather in a perfect house. Thank you so much for opening up the elegant comfort of your home to us. We will be back.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

Enjoyed a long weekend with all the women in my family. Just a short drive from SFO so for those who traveled all day they didn't have to wait very long before walking into this gorgeous, mulit-level home. Windows every where. Viewed the sunsets through the trees every night. Number of beds and baths perfect for all of us women! Would be great for multiple couples or family reunion. Kitchen very well appointed. Grocery stores and great restaurants in nearby Half Moon Bay. Fresh crab in Princeton Harbor. Theater room, patio and hot tub such fun treats! Allison was so helpful in making our stay enjoyable. Almost hate to give our stay the great review it deserves. May already be reserved the next time we want to visit!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

Our three generations - ages 3 to 70 - couldn't have been happier with the house. It's an absolutely wonderful place: Extremely well designed and equipped. Meticulously maintained. The owners have thought of everything. Their children even draw a welcoming picture for our grandkids. Fresh flowers even! And, a perfect location high on a hill overlooking the water. Tow minutes from the fascinating Fitzgerald Preserve and minutes from a variety of beaches and hikes. Less than a half-hour into San Francisco. All in all, the best house among the many we have rented over the years.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I love love love this home. What an amazing place to spend a long weekend. Once you arrive and settle in you can really start to feel the tranquity and peaceful envelope you. We were here for the weekend to enjoy both Moss Beach and San Francisco. While the hubbub of the City is close at hand with all the sites and sounds . . . just a short drive down the coast you are instantly transformed to serenity. Everything we needed was in this beautitful home and I hope to come again and again.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

Our family spent Thanksgiving at this beautifully appointed home in Half Moon Bay. It's hard to identify the things which most stand out because everything about it was perfect for us. There was plenty of space to move around in, we enjoyed the theater room for evening movies, the kitchen was to die for both in design and in the cookware and other items provided for our use. The provisioning by the owner was awesome and included cleaning supplies, movie candies, snack foods, condiments, paper products, and much, much more. Not only were we personally greeted at our arrival, but we were given instructions on how to operate the important household appliances, heat, etc. We will definitely return in the future to create more wonderful memories.Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

5 friends and I held a reunion at Moss Beach House in mid November 2012. From the first contact, Allison, the owner, was gracious and welcoming. She met us on arrival, greeting us with snacks in the patio. We could not have felt more at home. The house is beautiful and much more spacious than appears on the outside. We used all 5 of the bedrooms. There were 7 beds total (including one set of bunk beds and one room with 2 full size beds). All the beds were comfortable. This is a very well appointed house with upscale appliances and everything you could want. Be aware that it is on 3 levels so you go down stairs to the two lower levels where 3 of the 5 bedrooms and the home theatre are located. It is a 'no shoes' home so leave your shoes at the door. There are a number of sitting areas throughout the house for people to gather in groups or you can just sit and read a book in the window seat. A view to the sea from the living room and a couple of the bedrooms was an unexpected extra! The home movie theatre on the bottom level and outdoor seating with a jacuzzi add to the fun of the house. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood on a dead end street - but within walking distance to Moss Beach shore and trail and the Moss Beach Distillery Restaurant. The drive from the San Francisco airport was about 25 minutes. We would not hesitate to return to this property. Allison made us feel welcome and at home and the house was lovely.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We had an incredible stay in Moss Beach! The house, neighborhood and views were more impressive than we even hoped. It was just beautiful and such an amazing place to spend time together for a family reunion. As a result, we actually ended up spending more time enjoying each others company at the house in Moss Beach, and gladly cancelled a few of our planned outings. The rental was lovely, clean, and extremely well maintained. All of the rooms were elegantly decorated, but comfortable. The quality linens and towels available for our use were plentiful. Having rented other houses, I can say that it is very disappointing to find poor quality and too few towels and linens in a rental, which was definitely not the case here. Another thing what was so great about this house was that all of the supplies in the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry were provided. It appeared all of our needs were anticipated, so we really did not have any needs or wants the during the entire rental period. Again, having stayed in a number of vacation rentals, where you have to literally purchase EVERYTHING (dishwashing detergent, garbage bags, laundry soap, aluminum foil, etc.), it can be quite expensive to buy all you need just to use for a short stay. So we were thrilled to see the house stocked with all of the necessary supplies. It was clear that the owner wanted our stay to be special. Allison was so helpful before and during our stay when we had questions, concerns or needed any recommendations. We cannot say enough about how much relaxation and fun we had during our stay in Moss Beach and cannot wait to plan another trip back. We certainly would highly recommend that anyone (especially our family and friends), jump at the chance to stay here if they get the opportunity.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

About the owner: Alex and I have owned this house for over 10 years and we love escaping to the coast. As the children get older, and we spend more time in the city at t-ball and soccer, we find less opportunity to get away. Several friends commented that it was a shame that more people don't know about the magic of this beautiful home and the surrounding area. We believe Moss Beach and the coast are hidden treasures waiting to be discovered.
Why the Owner Chose Half Moon Bay:
We were looking for a quiet getaway from the City. We are thrilled with this home and all that the coast has to offer. When my husband (Alex) was a child, he used to intern at the Steinhart Aquarium - Alex has always had a passion for the ocean. Our family loves to go tide pooling at the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve - this is about as good as it gets! Our home is an 8 minute walk to world class tide pools and beaches.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The views are spectacular. The outdoor terrace has comfortable couches to relax and take a nap. We love hanging out on the deck, enjoying a glass of wine, and watching the kids play in the jacuzzi. The house is made for relaxing and spending time with family and friends. We designed the home with the idea of being together, but also wanting some quiet time alone. There are plenty of spots to curl up and read a book. There is a fabulous forest at the end of our street and it has a tree swing that the kids just love.
