We really enjoyed staying at Irma and Mike`s place. It has a comfortable living room, a spacious balcony with a great view and a pool in the garden which is directly touching the beach. We loved to have breakfast on the beautiful balcony. Mike designed great treats, every morning we had something different, totally delicious. (If you stay there, ask Mike for French toast a la Lehmann). Mike shared advice on where to eat and where to go and supported us planning excursions. Potrero beach is a beautiful and relaxing setting. We also recommend the gelato place and the coco loco restaurant. Ask Mike for directions.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

After our round trip through Costa Rica we came to Potrero to Mike&Irma's house. We were very surpriced we can stay in beautiful house so close to the beach. Our room was nicely furnished, clean, same as huge sitting room, kitchen and balcony with ocean view. We think that advertisement fits perfectly to the reality, even the reality is better. We could enjoy swimming pool in front of the house. It is just few meters from the house to reach ocean. We enjoyed swimming in the ocean (the water had 28 degrees, that we call in Europe thermal bath) and walking on nearly empty and clean beach with fine sand. We were getting every morning excellent breakfast, we appreciated most tropical fruits, which are so precious to us. In the evenings we used to go eating to one of the restaurants in the neighbourhood. The food were there good too. But the best of all were our hosts, Mike and Irma. They were very helpful with everything we asked them, they gave us advices about restaurants, shops and surrounding.They cooked for us some typical delicious Costarican food, we ate first time at all. We had long discussions in the evenings about "them" and "us". It was very interesting exchange of informations and many stories. We appreciated these evenings very much. All together we can warmly recomend other turists , who are interested in Costa Rica and want to spend some time at the ocean, to stay in Playa Potrero in Mike&Irma's house. Llego el tiempo de vacacionar y tuvimos la oportunidad de escoger este hermoso condominio, donde tienes una hermosa vista al mar una fresca piscina, un lugar perfecto para descansar y recibir una atención personalizada. Mike e Irma, son unas bellas personas, con las cuales compartimos, muy amenas, preocupadas por que usted tenga unas vacaciones inigualables, excelentes en la cocina con un delicioso desayuno, un ambiente maravilloso. Amazing...Everything was absolutely incredible. We discovered a so beautiful country with so kind people. WOW!!! Breakfast was very good,room and bed are comfortable, the place very quiet, wonderful ocean front view...and spectacular sunset from the balcony every day...Restaurants around are good and not expensive. Many beaches where we can make long walk, a cool pool to relax...Mike and Irma are so sweet people. The pictures you see are very reflecting the reality. very clean place. Recommending to rent a bike to move around, if you like bicycle.Safe neighbourhood . Go and realize by yourself how much it's great...Owner response: Frank and Sylvie, You were so much fun to be with. You came as guests and left as good friends. We loved you adventursome spirit and your excitement for everything 'Costa Rica'. We will always remember Franks favorite expression "holy macaroni" after seeing his breakfast plate served in front of him! Sylvie, you are now our wine expert! About the owner: My name is Mike Hopkins. I am a retired school teacher, contractor, tour operator and zoo director. Yes, zoo director. I built the zoo in my home town of Bakersfield, California. When I traveled the world looking for a perfect place to live that combined the best of a healthy lifestyle and a dedication to preserving nature, Costa Rica topped the list! My wife, Irma is Costa Rican and we enjoy sharing this wonderful country with others, especially new-comers to the tropics. Why the Owner Chose Playa Potrero:
Actually I built the six condominiums here on Potrero Beach, called Twin Dolphins. We live in one of the the two Penthouses that occupy the third and fourth floors. We have two bedrooms on the third floor that we rent, with Breakfast included.
I actually drove from California to Costa Rica, visiting many of the beautiful cities and beaches in Mexico and all the Central American countries. When I got to Potrero Beach, Costa Rica I realized that I found the perfect spot, with beautiful beaches all around, jungle and mountains behind, parrots and monkeys everywhere, schools, restaurants, shopping and amenities close by.

Our days come complete with laying in a hammock with gentle ocean breezes or taking a dip in our sparkling pool, or hiking and reconnecting with nature. I feel like I have added a year to my life for every year I have lived in Costa Rica. I moved permanently in 2001 and my only regret is that I did not do it sooner.
