Treat yourself to some well deserved R & R in a valley long held sacred by the Native peoples. Relax and recharge, rest and recuperate, reflect and research, retreat and review, reach inward and regroup, or run, revitalize, re-energize, refresh, rollick and revel in the many recreations in the region.
As the name suggests the house sits on the edge of a meadow with beautiful views including Mount Ashland and the Siskiyous. The Meadow House was built in 1987 by a Buddhist nun. The care and attention to detail in the placement and building of the house makes for a serene and idyllic setting.
The house comfortably sleeps up to six (more on the floor if you use the extra mattresses and futons). The guest quarters feature a king size bed, writing desk, walk-in closet with a child's bed, adjoining bathroom with shower, livingroom sofa bed and second bathroom, and a basement "family room" with TV, extra beds, and separate entrance.
The modern facilities include washer, dryer, dishwasher, freezer, full kitchen with electric stove, microwave, toaster oven, WiFi computer access, internet and fax links, and television (if you absolutely have to stay connected with the world outside the valley).
The house boasts extensive LP, CD, audio, video, and DVD collections. Curl up on the couch in front of the toasty wood burning stove with a book from the library that we trust will serve you well whatever your tastes and interests, from science to personal growth, from health to art and photography. The upright piano is an added feature with a varied selection of music from beginner to expert.
To be active or not to be active, that is the question. The choice is yours! The mythical State of Jefferson (Northern California and Southern Oregon) has much to offer from the sublime to adrenaline pumping.
Your choices include: do nothing; read or listen to music, meditate or contemplate, walk, hike, jog or run. Other activities include rock climbing, river rafting, downhill or cross-country skiing, home cooking or fine dining, enjoying the theatre or a concert and much more ... The Siskiyous are host to many trail heads giving access to the Pacific Crest Trail, Pilot Rock and Mt. Ashland. River raft or kayak the wild and scenic rivers of the Rogue or Klamath rivers, each with stretches that vary from sedate to thrilling.
Ski the Mount Shasta or Mount Ashland Ski and Snowboard Resort. With advance booking, attend The Oregon Shakespeare Festival and other theatre and performance venues; the Britt Music Festival (in season) for a vibrant cultural experience in nearby Ashland and Jacksonville. Within the valley: a visit to Tashi Choling, a Tibetan Buddhist Temple and Statue Garden is an absolute must and only a short walk from the Meadow House. The valley remained untouched by glaciation and holds many unique plant varieties.
Great opportunities to see eagles, wild turkeys, bluebirds, swallows, deer, elk, bobcats, coyotes -- all kinds of animal and bird-watching abound for the patient observer.
The usually clear skies afford excellent night sky viewing of the Milky Way, planets, constellations, and meteor showers.
