Location: Ashland, Southern Oregon, Oregon, USA (1977 Colestin Rd Ashland OR, 97520)

Accommodations:  House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 6-10)

Treat yourself to some well deserved R & R in a valley long held sacred by the Native peoples. Relax and recharge, rest and recuperate, reflect and research, retreat and review, reach inward and regroup, or run, revitalize, re-energize, refresh, rollick and revel in the many recreations in the region.

As the name suggests the house sits on the edge of a meadow with beautiful views including Mount Ashland and the Siskiyous. The Meadow House was built in 1987 by a Buddhist nun. The care and attention to detail in the placement and building of the house makes for a serene and idyllic setting.

The house comfortably sleeps up to six (more on the floor if you use the extra mattresses and futons). The guest quarters feature a king size bed, writing desk, walk-in closet with a child's bed, adjoining bathroom with shower, living room sofa bed, second bathroom, and a basement "family room" with TV, extra beds, and separate entrance.

The modern facilities include washer, dryer, dishwasher, freezer, full electric kitchen with microwave, toaster oven, WiFi computer access, internet and fax links, and television (if you absolutely have to stay connected with the world outside the valley).

The house boasts extensive LP, CD, audio, video, and DVD collections. Curl up on the couch in front of the toasty wood stove with a book from the library that we trust will serve you well whatever your tastes and interests, from science to personal growth, from health to art and and cooking to photography. The upright piano is an added feature with a varied selection of music from beginner to expert.

To be active or not to be active, that is the question. The choice is yours! The mythical State of Jefferson (Northern California and Southern Oregon) has much to offer from the sublime to adrenaline pumping.

Your choices include: do nothing; read or listen to music, meditate or contemplate, walk, hike, jog or run. Other activities include rock climbing, river rafting, downhill or cross-country skiing, home cooking or fine dining, enjoying the theater, concert and much more ...

The Siskiyou Mountains are rich with trails giving access to the Pacific Crest Trail, Pilot Rock and Mt. Ashland. River raft or kayak the wild and scenic rivers of the Rogue or Klamath rivers that vary from sedate to thrilling stretches.

Ski the Mount Shasta or Mount Ashland Ski and Snowboard Resort. With advance booking, attend The Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Oregon Stageworks. The Britt Music Festival and other theater and performance venues offer a vibrant cultural experience in nearby Ashland and Jacksonville.

Within the valley: a visit to Tashi Choling, a Tibetan Buddhist Temple and Statue Garden is an absolute must and only a short walk from the Meadow House. The valley remained untouched by glaciation and holds many unique plant varieties.

Great opportunities to see eagles, hawks, vultures, wild turkeys, bluebirds, gold finches, swallows, deer, elk, bobcats, coyotes -- all kinds of animal and bird-watching abound for the patient observer.

The usually clear skies afford excellent night sky viewing of the Milky Way, planets, constellations, and meteor showers (especially in August and November).

The Meadow House offers YOU a unique experience!

    • Our stay at the Meadow House was almost magical. For Judy it was the perfect retreat at the end of a busy, stressful day of classes. Nearly every night as we sat down to dinner, the deer would come in to graze. One night, we must have just missed seeing the birth of a new fawn, as the mother was still licking it off and it was wobbling around as it tried to stand. Sunsets on the evenings with clouds were spectacular! I’ll try to attach photos. On the day of Judy’s final exam, as she was getting up and tensely trying to cram a few more facts into her brain, 3 elk and about 8 deer came walking through the narrow part of the yard between the back of the house and the creek. It provided a much needed touch of serenity. For me, it was a lovely place to spend my days, alternately enjoying the natural beauty, my computer addiction, philosophical reading and listening to music, both my own and selections from Rick’s eclectic collection. And then there were adventures with the dogs! Our city dogs didn’t quite know what to make of all the ground squirrels and other wildlife at first. Though they never really came close to catching anything, they certainly enjoyed what they thought was a chase. Toward the end of our stay, we were comfortably joined in the house by Judy’s mom, two of our adult kids and two of their friends. Everyone loved the house and found whatever sort of adventures they wanted somewhere in the area. Finally, our thanks to Rick for being so accommodating with our shipping needs, gift card processing, and even dog sitting on several occasions so we could go out together in the evening. I truly do not know what more we could have asked for. It was a very special stay and we will remember it fondly. Roger (& Judy, Bettee, Steve, Liz, Scott, Allison, Toby, and Baby)

    • We spent two weeks at the Meadow House this past summer. The house is basically circular in shape with large windows throughout. This design provides a panoramic view of the meadow and the forests beyond. It was fun to observe the deer, elk, wild turkeys, and lost cattle from the hillside on which the house was built. Activities (e.g., concerts and plays) in nearby Ashland and Jacksonville added spice to our vacation. Also, Rick, the landlord, was a friendly, informative fellow. Don, Georgann, and Mia (the poodle)

    • We have stayed here 4 times already and each time has been a pleasure. The location is heavenly: Very remote yet completely connected to the world through satellite TV and high speed Internet access. We spend lots of time relaxing on the deck while Clyde explores the large property. The Colistin valley is a truly peaceful and spiritual experience with quiet sunny days and restful nights under the stars of the visible Milky Way. The best of all worlds exists here with the culture and ammenities of Ashland a short very lovely drive away, through a mountian road. We have found our place and plan on returning repeatedly.
