A Time to Pause
A Time to Pause
Having been raised in the Florida Keys, my wife and I have been partial to the sun and the fun of Florida all of our lives. Though we have driven through the mountains (Nashville to N. Tennessee) to visit relatives, we really had never truly been in the mountains. Even though one goes through the mountains to get to Nashville, there is a sense of familiarity with being on the Interstate [again]--boring. There are several ways to get to Marble, NC, but none are mundane. We choose a route that left the Interstate far behind and once we put Augusta, GA in the rear view mirror, we found our vacation beginning. Trust me; you won't be texting while you drive to Marble! Even though we are from the Sunshine state (some say the Funshine state) we run a business that keeps us busy 365 days/year. The topography was not the only thing that was a "180" from our day to day lives; we slowed way down and took our time the entire time we were there. We didn't have EVERYTHING we wanted, but that is EXACTLY what we wanted. We had anything we needed and nothing else: no traffic, no loud neighbors, no cable TV with in-your-face advertising, and no hurry. Everything in the cottage worked, from the central HVAC, to the kitchen appliances, as well as the clothes washer and dryer. For those of you that must hold a remote control at least once per day, there's a decent size TV and DVD player. We went into the mountains for a wonderful drive more than once. There's a national forest nearby. The view was definitely not SEA level; it was SEE level, especially with the fall colors. On one day we easily drove to the Biltmore Estate, leisurely walked the grounds as well as the house, and ate lunch there. All with enough time to get back the same day. Enjoy, take your shoes off; sit a spell.

Home Away From Home
Home Away From Home
I've had the pleasure of vacationing at "The Gibby" several times. It is a perfect place to be in the Smokies, because it is central to the many places you will want to go, Blue Ridge, GA, or The Biltmore in Ashville and more. The property is positioned so as to give a beautiful view of the mountains as you can see from the posted pictures. The home is a comfortable place to hang out and relax. The property is well maintained and stocked. There is a gourmet grocery store in Murphy for any thing foodwise you may want or need. For me, staying at "The Gibby" has been like being in a home away from home.

Peaceful Mountain Getaway
Peaceful Mountain Getaway
Although I had seen pictures of Claudia and Doug's Labor Of Love in the mountains and I have friends that have stayed there.....arriving at this comfortable, well maintained, peacefully beautiful, clean, and charming home in the mountains of North Carolina was "just what the Dr. ordered"!!! The location is "PERFECT"!!! I have stayed in and around Helen, Georgia and done a ton of hiking, white water rafting, and camping in North East Georgia for 20 years....so, I am partial to that area. Helen is only a 35 min. drive. So, of course, that was a day trip. The hiking and water falls are gorgeous all around Murphy/Marble!!! Going to The Biltmore and the Ashville area was a first time experience that I will look forward to experiencing again. The drive over there is breathtaking!! This was a trip I took on two separate days because it was so amazing. This home is well stocked with ALL of the essentials that anyone would ever need!! Children would love the yard and fire pit.The property is beautiful. The town of Murphy has stores to shop and stock up on supplies. The kitchen is great!! I even cooked on vacation and enjoyed it!! I went with other adult women for a ladies get away for my birthday.....50th!!! I cannot wait to go back!!! *** This website did not allow me to put the correct dates in....I went in Feb 2011...it was Beautiful/Perfect weather!!! Cool at night and high 60's to 70's during the day. Thank you so much Claudia & Doug for "sharing" your lovely Labor of Love in the mountains with me!!!

This quaint farmhouse is convenient to Smoky Mountain attractions as well as minutes from shopping and restaurants. Since the kitchen was so clean and well stocked with everything you need to prepare own meals, we choose to stock up on provisions at the local Ingles and farmer's market so we could eat most of our meals at the farmhouse. Our first night sleep was comfortable and cozy so we were well rested and eager to get out and explore the next day. After a full day of sightseeing, we arrived back at the farmhouse tired but still enough energy to start a bonfire and sit on the porch to enjoy the quiet and the mountain view. Our favorite day trip was to the Biltmore House in Asheville. The farmhouse decor and furnishings are authentic and charming as well as functional. It was like being at grandma's house. Claudia and Doug were very accommodating and even help us plan an agenda for our week in the area. Now that we know the lay of the land, we are eager to rent the farmhouse again and bring family members with us. Thank you Claudia and Doug.

Year Purchased: 2001
About the owner: I am a registered nurse and my husband is a master carpenter. We live on the East coast of Florida but love to come to the mountains as often as possible. We love to spend time in the garden, go hiking and collect antiques. Doug, my husband, loves to restore old houses. That is why we bought and restored our mountain cottage.
Why the Owner Chose Marble:
First of all,it's very economical, yet high quality . 'The Gibby', as we affectionately call it, is centrally located to all the sites you want to see in Western North Carolina. Nestled between the Snowbird Mountains and the Smoky's, it's no wonder that people have chosen to call this area home for thousands of years. Very easy to get to, blocks from the 4-lane. In our experience, trying to rent in this area, we have found that many places claim to be easy to get to. Yet, the reality is that they were on a steep mountain road, very difficult to navigate unless you have 4 wheel drive. We are on a flat plane, with lovely mountain views, without the mountain climb. We are 2 hours to Atlanta, 2 hours to the Biltmore, 15 minutes to whitewater rafting, 45 minutes to Franklin, which is the Gem Mining Capital of the world, and Blue Ridge, Georgia, which offers fine dining and shopping. We originally bought this property a few years after we were married. Being from Michigan, I still miss the Fall Colors. My Florida Cracker husband had never seen Autumn. So I dragged him up there, the first October after we were married. He fell in love with the mountains and the charm of yesteryear. We have been vacationing there ever since, Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. Spring in the mountains is very beautiful. Many native trees and shrubs are in full bloom,as well as many cultivated flowers and shrubs. And the color continues all summer long. You will be delighted to find that there is always something in bloom on our property. If you are a bird watcher, you will be delighted to see how many birds call our place home
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
One of the first things we noticed about the area, is that the air smells so sweet. You'll want to bottle it, and take it home.. Our water here, is the best in North Carolina, too. Marble Community Water Company is the provider of our water. They have tapped into the mountain springs, and the water is gravity fed, right into our faucet. You'll want to bottle it too! Take some home. In the summer you can enjoy the fireflies at dusk, as they come up out of the ground and twinkle in the trees. There is always something to enjoy, all seasons.
