I came up to the Berkshires for a getaway weekend from NYC to celebrate my 30th birthday with a group of friends, and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay. We were thoroughly shown around the house and how to work everything, and were given a great welcome basket. The house is upgraded beautifully, and is cozy and comfortable. It has a great open living area, which made it great for all of us to hang out. Netflix and Pandora on the TV were definitely a plus. We went skiing at Butternut and to the spa at Cranwell, and both were in convenient driving distance from the house. Would definitely recommend it, and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you very much for this warm review. We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay at our house.

This review is a few months late, but my experience here was so great that I needed to write a review. The owners were great to work with, from setting our dates and agreeing on our length of stay to welcoming us as soon as we arrived at their home. There are plenty of beds and a great living area with an AMAZING view that the pictures above do not do justice to. The house is also a short walk from the lake with a park to relax/picnic at. The living area consisted of the dining area, kitchen, and family room with a beautiful flat screen TV/cable. The kitchen was well furnished and even had Indian spices to make your food that much more delicious. If I remember correctly, there was also a bottle of wine awaiting us upon our arrival! All in all, we had an amazing time no thanks to the wonderful owners. If I'm ever back in the area, this would be one of my top choices.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Hi there, so glad that you still hold to memories of staying at our house. We truly enjoyed your family and were happy that you chose our location for your family gathering. Please send our regards to all the family members we met. P.S. Yes we did provide a bottle of wine to your family. It only seemed fitting given the occasion you were celebrating.

A group of ten college friends have been getting together annually since 1998. We're in our mid 30's and still love to get together, eat great food, drink great drinks, and catch up. This property was the perfect spot for us. The owners welcomed us, showed us around, and even left a little gift basket for us to enjoy throughout the weekend. The property was just beautiful (can't beat those views), and although we stayed on the property for the whole weekend, we knew that Great Barrington's restaurants/bars were right down the street. Lots of fun. Can't think of a single reason not to rent here again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you so much for the warm recommendation. We are so happy to hear that you enjoy the property as much as we enjoy it. Glad to hear that you friends liked it as well.

We are a group of 10 that gather from Mass./N.Y./ New Jersey every summer to enjoy all that the Berkshires have to offer. We came upon this gem and could not have been happier. The homeowners are a wonderful couple who take great pride in their home and this comes through in the way the place is appointed and artwork dispersed throughout the house.Yes, the house is a short walk to both town and the lake but truthfully sitting on the deck overlooking the mountains will keep you planted in one spot. Having your morning coffee overlooking the fog covered hills was a wonderful way to start your day.Neither the description nor the photos do this home justice, no question you will be pleased with your choice.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you so much for your warm review. We are glad that you enjoyed our house as much as we do. It was a pleasure to host your family and friends. What a wonderful group of peoples! Looking forward to see you in the future!

The home is lovely with a great location. Walking distance to town and to the lake. The owners are very gracious. The contemporary and well equipped kitchen opens on to a deck with a nice view of the mountains. There is also a screened porch for comfort without bugs. The home is accurately depicted in the photos, is well maintained and very clean. It was a convenient location to Tanglewood and Jacobs Pillow. The Mahaiwe performing arts center is in walking distance. My family is planning on staying here again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: We truly enjoyed hosting your family reunion. We hope that you will have many more such reunions. Your family is very nice!! We look forward to host you in the future, it that would be possible.

We stayed here for a weekend with friends and couldn't have asked for a better time. The house is located on a hill above Great Barrington and has access to a lake. The owners are perhaps the nicest I've ever worked with on a vacation rental. They treated us like guests, not renters, and took the time to give us a wonderful tour of the beautiful property. The next morning they even dropped off a loaf of bread from their favorite bakery in town. Would absolutely go back and stay again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Jacob's Pillow
"This festival runs through the summer June-Aug. Top notch dance companies from around the world come to preform in this festival. We higly recommend the free outdoor performances at the "inside out" stage facing an amazing view. These free performances are offered every Wednesday through Saturday at 6:15pm. They also offer free Pillow talks with the dancers, free tours of the property. You can have a picnic or enjoy the wonderful restaurant, cafe, and pub they have on the premiss. It is worth while to come before the show and enjoy everything that Jacob's Pillow has to offer. "

"This ski resort is only 3.8 miles from our property. It is a nice, family friendly resort. It is great for beginners and intermediate skiers because the slops are quite moderate. They offer ski lessons, babysitting, food and lots of fun. During the summer they also offer a wonderful art fair. "

"Worth a trip to see this amazing "ginger-man house" and garden built by Sir Henry Hudson Kitson, an English sculptor between the years 1920-1947. The most striking feature of Kitson’s studio is its 80-ton, asphault shingled roof. It also has beautiful tained-glass windows, carefully built piles of exotic stones, etc. When I visit it I imagine that any minute I might see a little gnome living there. "

About the owner: We have been living in the Berkshires for almost 20 years. We have two sons in college.
Why the Owner Chose Great Barrington:
Recently a friend who renovated this house and offered it to us. We fell in love with the gorgeous view, the location on 'Hill of Great Barrington' and decided to buy it.
Our next decision was to rent it out when we can. Guests who have stayed at our house say the picture do not do it justice. It is difficult to describe how wonderful it is. Please read our reviews.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Short drive to Tanglewood, Jacobs Pillow, Shakespeare & Co. etc. 10 minute walk to downtown Great Barrington which is home to many delightful restaurants, shops, galleries, and theatre venues (Mahaiwe Performing Arts & Triplex Movie Theater) Three minute walk to Lake Mansfield- a summer favorite for swimming (lifeguard on site), kayaking, picnicking, fishing hiking & biking. Walk to the Farmers Market on Saturday morning, listen to a concert on the town green (during the summer), or just relax on the gazebo with a glass of wine. During summer there are many activities & events every day for people of all ages. During the fall, the view from the house is even more stunning, during the winter the house you can visit nearby skiing resorts such as Butternut, Catamount. Our property is 8 mins drive to Butternut Ski area (3.8 miles), and 15 mins drive to Catamount ski area (8miles).
