Paraiso Tankah is a residential development just north of Tankah Bay (Tankah Tres). It sits on a windswept stretch of shoreline between Tankah Tres and Soliman Bay, a type of shore referred to as "iron shore" because of its exposed limestone rock. Along Paraiso Tankah the iron shore accumulates a varying amount of sand that fluctuates with the wind and waves, providing a rare opportunity to witness the power and raw beauty of the Caribbean, from a lounge chair on the beach!

Inside Casa Escocesa the lower level opens to a spacious main living area with a view of the Caribbean through a series of glass sliders and windows. The living room has a U shaped built-in couch right next to a line of tall ocean facing windows that also overlook the pool. Three additional plush leather chairs round out the seating circle and there is a coffee table in the center. A wet bar with a wine fridge and a couple chairs is next to the living room for your happy hour, which may run all day if you're so inclined. Across from the living room, the dining table seats eight people in a set of elegant high-backed woven reed chairs. And on the other side of the dining table, the kitchen's granite topped peninsula has five more seats. The gourmet kitchen is fully equipped with stainless appliances including a six burner stove/oven, double refrigerator and dishwasher. Counter tops are done in granite. Cabinets are solid hardwood. Kitchen accessories include a microwave, toaster, blender, coffee maker, and all the utensils, place settings and cook ware you are likely to need. The spacious den upstairs has a 50" Plasma TV, desk/computer, and small exercise area. Casa Escocesa is state of the art with a full security system, distributed audio throughout the house (bring your iPod!), lighting system, and individually cooled rooms for your complete comfort.

There are four air conditioned bedrooms all of which open to either an ocean view terrace, balcony or the pool deck. Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom. The master bedroom on the lower level has a king bed and slider to the pool deck. Two bedrooms upstairs each have a king bed and face the ocean directly. Both open to the furnished ocean view terrace. A third upstairs bedroom has a king bed, windows on its garden side and an ocean view balcony.

The 30 ft. long ocean side pool has a large sun deck with plenty of chaise lounges. Two large semi-circular patios with tables and chairs are perfect for cooking, dining, and relaxing outdoors. A shade palapita on the edge of the beach has sand under foot and a hammock for enjoying the view.

Up on the roof there is a built in elliptical sofa that seats eight. The roof top is wonderful for sunrises, sunsets or stargazing at night. The view south covers the length of the Paraiso Tankah coastline and to the north lies gorgeous Bahia Soliman. To the east is the blue Caribbean.

Casa Escocesa's experienced caretakers will look after you from the moment you arrive, doing their very best to make sure you have a fantastic vacation. They speak English and will be very happy to let you practice your Spanish. In addition to keeping the house clean and tidy, they offer additional services such as shopping, cooking for your party, laundry and baby sitting.

Finally, Paraiso Tankah beach directly in front has plenty of sand for sunbathing and beach combing (sandals recommended for longer strolls), but we do not recommend attempting a water entry. Even on a dead calm day with water shoes and a dive skin be aware that there is no outer reef break and conditions can deteriorate quickly if the wind comes up. Generally, Paraiso Tankah is a place to see the power of the sea. The pool is your best and most enjoyable water option. Considering the villa's amenities, and the services in nearby Tankah Bay, Casa Escoseca (Scottish house) is a good choice for those seeking a degree of separation, proximity to nearby Tankah beach, Manatee cenote, two restaurants on Tankah beach (Blue Sky and Casa Cenote) and all the best the Riviera Maya has to offer. The Tulum ruins and Tulum beach are just 10 minutes south.

March 9-16, 2013. This was one of our best family vacations ever! All the pictures of the house and property are 100% accurate. One of the best things about this house was Elda & Elder. Elda’s cooking was amazing and Elder was very helpful in providing assistance with local places to go and see. The house had everything that we needed. Blow dryers were provided in every bathroom. They even had a bottle water dispenser. We were able to plug our cell phones and laptops into the outlets without any converters and did not have any issues. It is about a 2 hour drive south from Cancun. We used “Easy Way” car rental which was located just outside the airport. You’ll definitely need a car when staying here, since it is conveniently located between Akumal and Tulum beach towns. The house had a guest book with lots of tips and places to visit. We use it and left lots of notes, too. We went snorkeling to Cenote Dos Ojos and visited the Tulum ruins. Great snorkeling except we had to wear wet suits since the water temp was only 74 degrees….too chilly for us Virginians! Would highly recommend this house and can’t wait to go back!!

Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

This was our second visit to Casa Escososa and we decided to share it with the rest of our family this time. It was the perfect spot to meet both sides of our family who live in Vermont and Toronto, and us in Virginia. There was a total of 7 adults, 1 teen, and 1 child, and we were together for 7 days. The convenience of the comfortable bedrooms and en suite full baths made a world of the difference. And the house was large enough so that we weren't stepping on each other. The accommodations are pristine (just as the photos suggest)! With filtered water for drinking available. The food is delicious. And if you do choose to make your own meals every now and then, I recommend grocery shopping at Chedrui which has fresh produce. The views were magnificent with being right on the ocean. We woke up to the sound of the waves crashing and star-gazed on the roof every night! The beach is very private so you truly feel like you are in your own home away from home. We alternated cooking and had the housekeeper, Elda cook meals for us, that along with eating out. The food was fresh and delicious. No issues there! Tulum is VERY SAFE and we were confident enough to do some of our own grocery shopping. We also spent time at a local beach up the road, Akumal, famous for sea turtles (10 minute drive). And also went into Tulum and enjoyed the beach and beach side service (15 minute drive). We went into downtown Tulum a couple of evenings to enjoy the local nightlife and some live music. Having a car is essential as you have to drive to do anything in the area. Locals are very helpful but I was glad my simple Spanish and my dictionary was with me. We'll definitely come back! Tulum is the place to be especially if you don't want the commercialism of Cancun. It is a truly low-key, easy, and safe.
