Better Homes and Gardens featured our home in its 2009 special Spring edition. They titled the article 'Oasis of Calm'. We thought their title captured well the essence of our home.
As you view the photos of our home and garden you will see that we love them. We are grateful to be able to share their beauty, peace and warmth with others.
Our home sits on a large, 1/2 acre lot. It is two stories and has 3 full bedrooms, one office/bedroom and 3.5 baths; dining, living and family rooms; 2 indoor fireplaces and a bay windowed breakfast area.
Ours is one of eleven homes on a quiet and private cul-de-sac. Our back yard is two tiered, fully useable, gorgeous and quite private. On the upper tier, we have a 35 foot pool and jacuzzi that are part of a generous dining and socializing area featuring an outdoor fireplace, teak furniture, shade umbrellas and outdoor stereo speakers. There are two other cozy, private sitting/reading/snoozing areas on this tier, including one with a wisteria shaded hammock.
On the lower tier, under the partial shade of a large, old pine, is a 4,500 square foot lawn area suitable for many games (Croquet and Bocce Ball sets are available) and another lovely sitting area.
We will meet you when you arrive, orient you to the home, and show you how everything works. We will provide you with a binder that details the operation of the home, its appliances and its entertainment equipment. The binder will also list local attractions and provide contact information and driving directions.
We provide all linens, soap, shampoos and conditioners in each bathroom, as well as pool towels. We also have a porta-crib and pack-and-play if young ones need them.
Many visiting family members and guests have spontaneously commented that staying in our home with its lovely decor, beautiful yard and quiet privacy is like staying in a 5 star B&B. We feel confident that you'll feel that way too.

This beautiful home was the best place for us to be for our first time in the San Diego area! We loved how centrally located it was so we could go to all the San Diego attractions and also head north to L.A. We all had a blast and enjoyed every minute we spent in the gorgeous home, the pool and that beautiful yard! The weather couldn't have been better and we really loved the Olivenhain and Encinitas area. Thanks to our hosts for opening their home to us and making it such a comfortable home away from home for our visit! We'll definitely be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

I would absolutely recommend this rental property to anyone! My husband, 2 young children, parents, and sister rented this home for a week over spring break. We spent the majority of our time outside in the hot tub (wasn't quite warm enough for the pool!), sitting by the outdoor fireplace and playing on the large lawn. The bedrooms are well-appointed and we had ample room to all sleep comfortably. The owners left us toys for the pool, beach chairs, pool towels, grill, and outdoor games in addition to a well-stocked kitchen. The home is within 20 minutes of Legoland and the Safari Park. While the home is incredible, the backyard is stunning and the setting perfect, the absolute best part of this rental is the owner. Wayland was kind, responsive and ensured that our stay in Encinitas was truly memorable.Recommended for: Families with young children.

About the owner: We are a retired psychologist and nurse, and have lived in the Olivenhain area of Encinitas for 36 years. We raised four children here. We love golf, travel and - as you may have guessed - creating beautiful living spaces.
Why the Owner Chose Encinitas:
On a Sunday afternoon walk, we stumbled upon the open house for this property on its very first day. We fell in love half way up the stairs and had it in escrow by that Wednesday. It is an extraordinary home. The home is on a private stretch of a street much loved by locals for walking and jogging. When we are in the front yard, we are often told by those exercising strangers that ours is their favorite house to walk by.
