The modern cantilevered architecture of the Nest has you literally floating over the dune. This one bedroom, two bath cottage on the beach is stunning inside and out. The Nest caters to those seeking an atmosphere of refinement and exclusivity. Lifelong memories are created here.
The panoramic view is dramatic, and the interior is beach chic, with white slipcovered furniture and rich woodwork. The fully equipped modern cherry and granite kitchen includes a washer and dryer. The master suite has a king size bed, jacuzzi, and separate shower. A private deck with a gas grill offers a scenic spot to relax and unwind. Winters offers a cozy spot in front of the fireplace to watch the weather change on the lake. Storms are spectacular entertainment.
While the Nest is the perfect romantic retreat for two, it will accommodate up to 4 people on either the queen size sleeper sofa in the sunroom or the two twin beds in the entrance. There are two full baths. Floor to ceiling windows that open and stairways should be considered with small children.
The private association beach is not crowded. There are only 60 leisurely steps to the beach and gazebo. You are minutes from the Four Winds Casino, Redemak's, Oinks, and wineries. There are many restaurants, bars, antique malls, art galleries, and theaters in the area. But why ever leave your private hideaway with the absolute best views in Harbor Country.

We stayed at the Nest in early November and we were very pleased with the whole experience. The property manager, Kathleen, was a real pleasure to work with through the booking process, and she also met us at arrival and guided us through the property. We did not meet the owners but they sent us a nice thank you note after our stay which was a nice touch. There were four of us in our party and the property was just the right size for our group. There is only one bedroom (which has the most GORGEOUS view of the lake) but the trundle bed in the entryway and the sleeper sofa in the living area allowed for comfortable accommodations for all. There are stove fireplaces in the bedroom and living room which kept the entire apartment warm and cozy. The master bedroom bath is large, and it has a tub and shower. There is another full bathroom on the 2nd floor adjoining the kitchen and living areas. The kitchen has all the amenities and everything is in excellent condition. The overall arrangement is quite unique. The Nest is relatively narrow and both floors front the beach with floor to ceiling windows and impressive views of the lake. It adjoins a large nine bedroom house which we were able to tour, and the two properties share a gazebo and staircase down to the sandy beach. We really loved this place. It was small enough to be cozy but big enough for four adults to feel comfortable. The view and access to the beach was incredible, the management was helpful, and it is within a beautiful lakefront neighborhood. We plan to return as soon as we have the opportunity.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

As a former Chicagoan, I have always loved this area. Our stay at the Nest was a total delight! It is well stocked and beautifully furnished, but the real attraction is the view of Lake Michigan and lounging or walking on the private sandy beach. Or enjoying a swim in the lake. It is like a vacation on the ocean. True, there are no dolphins or cruise ships or all that annoying salt, but sitting in the front room or in the gazebo with a glass of wine and watching the sunset over the lake is an experience that is hard to beat. If you are feeling especially lazy, you can just gaze at the view from the bedroom! You probably won't want to tear yourself away from the beach, but if you want to briefly exchange sand for concrete, Chicago is a fairly short drive (or train ride) away. And the nearby town of New Buffalo is charming. We met both the owner and the property manager while we were there. They were very friendly and helpful to us, answering numerous questions and giving excellent advice about what to see and do, and where to eat. We are looking forward to staying there again. It is a dream vacation location.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

We throughly enjoyed our Fall weekend at The Nest. The photo accurately relects the layout and decorating of The Nest. Relaxing and cozy. We enjoyed both fireplaces while watching football Saturday and Sunday afternoon. WONDERFUL views of Lake Michigan from The Nest. Management inquired during our stay if we were happy. Everything provided in the home was in great shape, well taken care of. Area has resturants we enjoyed, wine tasting, shopping, and liked walking in the area especially through the leaves!! We intend to re-book for 2013 and highly recommend to travelers.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

This was our first trip to the Michigan shore and staying at "The Nest" exceeded all our expectations! The Nest was relaxing, comfortable and has the best view of Lake Michigan. Our weather was cloudy, cold and windy but we still enjoyed walks on the beach. We also enjoyed the warmth of the fireplaces. On our last evening the skies cleared for an unbelievable sunset! The Nest has all the amenities needed for a relaxing stay anytime of year. We definitely plan to return for another fantastic stay!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Our getaway at the Nest far exceeded our expectations! The VRBO listing description and photos accurately reflect the appearance of the property. The house was very clean and beautiful and had all of the comforts of home. The beach was also very clean and there were hardly any other people in sight. We loved eating our dinner at the gazebo while watching the sunset. We had a hard time leaving the property since we enjoyed the beach so much! We did take the bikes on a great ride to New Buffalo via Lakeshore/Marquette Drives. This was our first time vacationing in Michigan. We wish we discovered this little gem years ago! We would love to come back to the Nest yearly and would highly recommend it to others.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

The Sandpiper Nest has it all -- great location, stunning lakefront views and luxury accommodations. From the house, it's just a flight of stairs down to a private and pristine beach. There's also a nice-sized deck halfway between the house and the beach if you don't want to get full of sand. Inside the home, you'll find great attention to detail. The furniture is clean and comfortable. The decor is modern and "beachy." The house is also well-stocked. There wasn't anything we needed during our visit that wasn't already there. The house is also unusually large for a place that sleeps four. With two large bathrooms and a sunroom, you won't be bumping into each other. If you're lucky enough to get the bedroom, the first thing you'll see upon waking up is that spectacular view of the lake. It's a great way to start your day. We've been visiting Harbor Country for years. We've stayed in several B&Bs, two New Buffalo hotels and a handful of rental homes. The Sandpiper Nest is by far the nicest place we've seen in the area.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway.

Loved this house! We were very comfortable here. Four of us stayed in the house, myself, my husband, 25 year old daughter and 18 year old son. Everyone had there own space. Everything from the dishes to the towels were high quality. The house is in a beautiful location. The beach is great and not many people were on it, even though it was very hot while we were there. The property manager Kathleen was pleasant to work with and I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Elizabeth, who I enjoyed talking with about the houses and the area. We would rent again, the amount per night was more than we wanted to pay, but at the time we were looking on VRBO, there was nothing like it, and this house was closer to the beach than others. We searched houses on VRBO in other towns in this area and further along the Red Arrow Highway, and after we had spent time here, we were so glad we chose Union Pier!Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

My stay at the "nest" in Union Pier over Memorial Day weekend, 2012 was incredible. The accomodations were beautiful, clean, well maintained and comfortable. The bed and bedding was extremely comfortable and the kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked. There was a very homey feel to the place and we felt at home very quickly. Views from the bedroom, living room, dining room and porch were breathtaking. Access to the beach was excellent and both loungers and beach chairs were readily available. The beach was well groomed the water sandy and free of seaweeds. The private beach was well patrolled yet there was a public area if meeting new people was of interest. Bikes were also available for use, although we never did partake due to the heat. We found anything that we needed was easily located within 5-10 minutes away. With the well stocked kitcken, we preferred to cook rather than dine out, although there were many restaurants from which to choose. Directions were excellent and navigating the area was quite easy. We were lucky enough to be leasing while the owners were on the premises. Elizabeth and Louis went out of their way to answer any questions, make us feel welcome and to see to it that we had whatever we needed. Some personal touches included fresh flowers, bug spray and a mock candlelight atmosphere. I would highly recommend this rental unit to any couple. We plan to return, at least annually.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
